- Almost perfect

The only thing missing on here was Mickey Hart. Id buy the one with the bonus trax also.

- China Sun

This is an album I’ve loved since I was a kid, although I am not a dead head.. Forget all the Dead hype for a minute and listen to China Cat Sunflower. There is not bar band (as Jerry described the band in its day) that I know of who could stretch out that way and come back to reign us in. They shoot an arrow and land it way beyond our expectation. And that’s why they are still famous. Bar bands soothe my soul!!!

- Hi, Pierre!

Obviously you have too much time on your hands!!! Great album, btw... jh

- Damned good, though not strictly "live"

When they got home from Europe, the Dead set up all of the sound equipment they had used on tour ("to capture the ambience") and put down additional tracks which they mixed into the tracks that were recorded on the road, thus filling in the holes and some of the rough edges encountered on the tour. The result was perfection, but not purely live.* Don't let that turn you away from this album, you won't find a better live album by this or any other band. *Scully & Dalton, "Living With the Dead," page 228.

- Your not getting all your music.

On the CD version of the album there are 7 bonus tracks. Where are these tracks on the itunes version?

- Dubs is Lame

This album is out of sight, and dead heads and non-dead heads alike will love it. However, Eric, "Dubs" is a lame nickname and I highly suggest that you change it immediately or else you're out of the band. Seriously. Dubs is a horrible nickname and i am sick and tired of it. But Europe '72 is cool

- WHERE IS "THE STRANGER" (TWO SOULS IN COMMUNION)

Can't love this album enough. The CD I bought awhile back has "The Stranger" on it, a sublime version- why isn't this on the Itunes album??? This is not the first time I've seen Itunes omit songs from albums that were there originally- weird.

- The Best Album Ever By the Best Band Ever

This album represents the Grateful Dead at the pinnacle of their performance. Though the Dead are always fantastic instrumentally, in this album, they are absolutely perfect and on top of that, the vocals are the best of any Dead recording ever, with flawless harmonies that are sure to amaze. Every song on the album is fantastic. The China Cat to I Know You Rider is probably the best one ever with perfect harmonies and an amazing accapella part at the end. Truckin' into Morning Dew represents the Dead’s fantastic jamming capabilities and the Morning Dew is truly magical. Jack Straw and Brown Eyed Women are also mind blowing. I could go on and on about each song, but instead I’ll just say buy this album. Now. It’s the greatest album in the world by the greatest band in the world. If your wondering weather to get the bonus tracks, know this: if you don’t like Pigpen or you’re not already a Grateful Dead fan (which after this album I guarantee that you will be) then don’t get them. If you do like pigpen but your still not sure then I would say go big and get them because they’re pretty cool. Pigpen sings throughout the Good Lovin’ and doesn’t stop until the second Good Lovin’ ends. Its great.

- This album Epitomizes what the Dead were about

The performances on this album are brimming with country twang and jazz improvisational sensabilities. It is almost like a companion album to its predecessor, Skull & Roses. They are both live and represent the extremes of the Dead's live catalouge, but they have different songs. Europe '72 has more of a fuller sound, due to the addition of pianist Keith Godchaux. Pigpen also plays much more organ on this one than he did on Skull & Roses. Garcia, Lesh, Weir, and Kreutzmann are at their peak here, as they were on Skull & Roses. Every song is a classic. Buy it.

- The ALBUM

This is the ALBUM that hooked me. I finally purchased the T-shirt last week. Love the Cumberland Blues beginning, sets the tone. This is the ALBUM I share to everyone.

- One of the best alubms

Wow this is one of there best alubms there music is just amazing and it shows on this album...

- Good Place to Start

I'm new to The Dead. Just started collecting and this was my first venture into live territory. Great recordings and a great collection of songs. It's been a perfect jumping off point for me as I'm sure it would be for others. "We can share the women, we can share the wine." Enjoy!

- The bottle was dusty.....

Brown Eyed Woman never sounded as good as it does on this cd. So many classic songs on this recording, more than most bands have over an entire career!

- The Dead 72

Great record , great concert year for the band, really does represent them well!! There was nothing like a Dead concert !!

- Greatest live album ever

If ur someone who is trying to get into the dead but they don't really know were to start well here is it starting point right here this live album shows almost all the different types of dead sofa it is truly fantastic and well worth the money

- Dead

it doesnt matter if you dont want to buy the whole CD *BUT do yourself a favor and at least buy the Cumby blues and China sunflower!

- old dead

like finding an old friend

- Another great offering

There is a lot of good music rolled up in this album.

- Dire Wolf

Must have for any Dead fan, entry level or seasoned tour hound. The Jack straw and He's gone shine!!

- Poetry!

I've had this record/cd since it first came out about 40 years ago and I still listen to it all the time: China Cat/I Know You Rider is not just a brilliant Dead song, it's a happy/haunting/mythic American song. I wish I was a headlight on a north bound train/I'd shine my light thru the cool Colorado Rain. Poetry!!!!

- In my top 5 of best albums of all time

This is one of those albums that if you were stuck on a deserted island and requested one album...this would be it. The absolute best version of China Cat! There isnt a bad one on here! If your lookin' to jump into the Dead..here it is

- Great

- You can't beat the price. - I've never heard any song better than China Cat Sunflower/I Know You Rider. - Every song is excellent - Best songs: 1. China Cat Sunflower/I Know You Rider, 2. Jack Straw, 3. One More Sat. Night, 4. He's Gone, 5. Truckin/Epilogue

- The best, period.

Doesnt get better than this.

- like a steam locomotive, rollin' down the track

europe '72 is pretty much one of the most sublime and wonderful live recordings by the grateful dead. almost every song is an very integral part of their catalog, from the breakneck pickin' of cumberland blues to the country stompin' of tennessee jed. and the slower numbers like jack straw, brown eyed women, and he's gone are some of the band's best storytelling. it also contains some very interesting jamming, most notably during china cat sunflower > i know you rider and the truckin' > epilogue > prelude > morning dew sequence. epilogue, to me, has some of the best and most fluid musical interaction this band has ever done, even if it is kind of short. all in all this album cannot be overlooked and newcomers should get this along with american beauty and workingman's dead as an introduction to the band. an essential album.

- From beginning to end

The greatest live recording of modern music ever made. With intertwining melodeys, tempo changes, mixes of folk, blues, jazz, country and rock & roll all rolled into a jamfest giving your ears an education on just how complicated a song can be. Proof be Truckin into Epilogue or China cat into I know you rider. It is amazing to me when I think of all the copies of this recording I have purchased over the years. LP's would be scratched and worn out in no time, cassettes would jam and warp. Now I find myself in the 21st century gathering this music wirelessly from the internet. Ain't progress grand........

- Is It Live or Is It Memorex?!

You wont belive your ears. Hard to belive that this is a collection of live recordings performed in 1972. Sound quality is superb. It is a family favorite and a perfect starters collection for those new to the Dead.

- Man I love this album

Great live show sound. Good space jam in there too. I loved seeing these guys in concert several times

- this album is a party

I had heard some of the deads sudio albums and maybe some live but this album is the best dead album howcasing them where they did their best work, on stage, I strongly suggest never buying dead studio albums, this, live/dead and some of the dead dwonload series are what real dead fans need. One more sat. night and jack straw are superb and the china cat is the dead at its best.

- Fantastic!

An album to remember! This is a very great album to, some what, calm down to. It is, in a way, uplifting and poppy! Very great tone and, well it's The Greatful Dead! That is enough said...

- Great!

Great live album! Favorite is he's gone!

- the best album

every song on this album is great, but jack straw really shines

- One of the Greatest Rock Albums Ever Made

There's no doubt about it: this is one of the greatest rock albums of all time, maybe the greatest. Garcia's work on "China Cat Sunflower" is nothing short of genius. If you're new to the Dead, this is where to start.

- Amazing performances of the Dead's best

Superb from start to finish. I realize the band did some "sweetening" to the vocals after the fact, but if you've ever found it hard to understand the devotion so many people still have to the Dead, this will help make things clear. The Dead were at their best when they were having fun, and besides maybe Dick's Picks 15, this may be the best example of that. The playing is consistently stellar, and the songs just shine with the kind of clarity they deserve. Sometimes it doesn't sound like a live album due to editing, but keep in mind that these are indeed live performances at one of the many peaks of the Grateful Dead, and marvel at them. My respect for this band is never ending.

- Fantastic. 'Nuff Said.

With well over 2,000 live performances, it can be difficult for the new Grateful Dead fan to sift though weaker shows to find the ones that really shine. This album is a great introduction to live Dead. Follow it up by giving the Barton Hall show a listen (May 8, 1977 Barton Hall, Cornell University.)

- Great Album

A lot of the songs on this album are good like Cat>Rider and Truckin'. This is a good choice for people who haven't herd The Dead before.

- Good Ole Grateful Dead

This album(s) will often bring tears to many of us . I loved this music from the first day in the early 1970's , I heard it . I thought and maybe still do that the Dead were the most mature rock band there ever was . ( Because of my almost blind love of the Grateful Dead , it has just been in the last 25 years that I 've learned to love many many other great bands . I am almost 74 years old now .) Isn't music grand ?

- China cat sunflo.....

This is truly one of my favorite albums of all time. Unfortunately on iTunes you don't get the whole song. The songs cut off while the jam leads into the next song. With an album like this that in a crime.

- Amazing

Don't forget to get Europe 72 Part 2! Great songs on that one as well. Sugaree...Loser...Bertha.....Not Fade Away.....

- Great album, recommend it

I'm a Grateful Dead fan and this album has a great Jack Straw, China Cat, Brown Eyed Woman, Ramble On Rose, and Sugar Magnolia

- One Of The Best

This is definitely one the best Dead offerings. The band is clearly clicking on all cylinders here. The muscianship is amazing. Jerry's guitar work is off the charts and the vocals are great as well. The China>Rider is the best I have heard from the band -- Jerry is unbelievable. Morning Dew, Jack Straw, Mr. Charlie, Brown-Eyed Women are all stellar. You can't go wrong.

- The Dead at their finest

I was a Dead Head back in the day and still love them. This album is a masterpiece. It's always been my favorite album by them.

- The Best of the Best

For good reason, this album is considered by many to be the best album ever released by the Grateful Dead. The sound quality is superb, and they play with a ferocity and strength that is nearly unmatched. Jack Straw is amazing, and really brings out emotion. The China Cat Sunflower/I Know You Rider duo is never played again with the ferocity it has in this rendition, and they bridge the two perfectly. Though Pigpen was in failing health, his singing never ceases to be strong and soulful. One More Saturday Night is a party, and Cumberland Blues, Brown-Eyed Woman, Sugar Magnolia and Tenesse Jed are never again found as good as they are on this album.

- Yes this is a great album but....

Yeah this album is amazing but it also contains one of the best Space Jams I've ever heard from the Dead. Tracks 15 + 16 are amazing. Continuing from "Truckin'" and going through this Jam, which is completely mind-altering, and then emerging in one of the sweetest "Morning Dew"s that I've heard from them, was truly a highlight in my own personal very long and strange trip. This is one of my favorite Dead albums, along with " Without a Net" and "One From the Vault". A must-have for any Dead-head or anyone who appreciates good music.

- Best thing they ever did

I'm an oddity who prefers the veneer of studio polish that seemed to reign in the band, but still, as a musician, mightily admire what they were capable of generating live. This is the best of both worlds. As a live album, it introduced a bunch of songs that would be live staples for the duration of their carrer and contains easily the best China Cat I have EVER heard. This is my favorite era for the band anyway- lil bit of Pigpen lingering (I think he was dying at this time from liver disease).

- Europe 72'

This is one of my favorite dead albums, it's full of great songs live. Simple as that.

- The Best Greatful Dead Album

This collection of live performances represents the greatest single collection of Greatful Dead performances ever. Skip "One More Saturday Night" Bob Weir's out of tune vocals would kill small rodents on this track. "Tennessee Jed" and"'Brown-Eyed Woman" are impeccable

- Their 1st album, pay attention!!

Hey!? What about Grateful dead's 1st album; huh? Their 1967 album "the Grateful Dead! I'm looking for that spsific album only!! I need it for my HW. If you agree hit yes! maybe they'll put it here!!! Please click yes! please!!!

- China Cat Sunflower- one of the best

Before there was Dick's Picks there was only a handful of live Dead shows available commercially in a high quality format- everything else was live tapes being traded- which is still going on today- AMEN! This was one of those recordings that was available. And for a long time this was in heavy rotation in my home stereo (along with "Live Dead" and "Skull and Roses"). Even though this is not one show, but rather a mix of songs from the Europe '72 tour, it flows really well. I can't help but to use this version of "China Cat Sunflower" as the standard to judge all performances of that song. Maybe it's because it was the only live version I had access to for a long time (pre Dick's Picks and no tape trading friends back then). There are other one of a kind performances too, including "Jack Straw", "He's Gone"(one of my favorite versions), and "Morning Dew" (goosebumps!). Oh, what the heck, they are all great! Now, put aside the great performances, this is an incredible quality mix and recording. Considering this is from 1972, it's better then many recordings from the 80s and 90s. I think this is why a lot of people may have gotten "hooked" on the Grateful Dead's live sound after listening to this album without ever seeing them live. It opened up a lot of ears to what this band was all about- the live performance and jam.

- This is a five star set...

And I'll mud wrestle anyone who says otherwise. The jamming is stunning. I was amazed to see a four star rated review. Truckin'/Epilogue is worth 5 stars alone. Bob Weir's rhythm guitar work on this set is outstanding. Heck with it, they're all in outstanding form. Listen to this and you'll begin to understand why people used to follow these guys around from concert to concert. Utter, total genius.

- Definitive Country Dead

This is the Dead at their country best, miles away from their brilliant last live album Live/Dead, but it's certainly not for the worse. Personal favourites are Cumberland Blues, Jack Straw, Brown-Eyed Woman and the improvised jam Epilogue, which follows on from an extended Truckin'. If you're a fan of American Beauty or Workingman's Dead, this is a must!

- 1972 was their best live experience

This is the original live album from their 1972 European tour, argued by many to be their best ever tour from an audience point of view. There is a wonderfully representative set of pieces here, though sadly nothing longer than 13 minutes which rules out Dark Star and The Other One. But, don't buy this album!! Why on earth not? Because there is another from the same tour - Steppin' Out With The Grateful Dead, all drawn from British gigs - which give you most of these songs, plus the aforementioned two, plus Caution [Do Not Stop On Tracks], plus many others. A total of 39 tracks, 5 hours of the Dead (equivalent to one of their gigs), for £9.99. That's what they call a 'no brainer'.
