Released in October 2002, four months after the critical and commercial success of the Heathen album, the songs range from his second album, David Bowie to Heathen. A DVD, also titled Best of Bowie, was also released. Initially peaking at number 11 on the UK Albums Chart upon release in October 2002, the album entered the top 10 for the first time in January 2016, after Bowie's death, and reached a new peak of number 1, marking his eleventh UK number-one album. It also became the first album to reach number 1 in the UK due to streaming. Best of Bowie has been certified 4× Platinum by the British Phonographic Industry for sales of over 1,200,000.

This album has all the favorite hits. I am still devistated by his death, and was glad to find this with all of my favorite songs, Golden Years, Fame, etc etc. There will never be another like him. I bought this in CD format years ago and it was a two-CD set with 19 tracks on each CD. This is a very much scaled down version leaving off some of his very best songs. Thanks iTunes. I thought I was buying the complete compilation. I'm a lifelong Bowie fan and wanted the digital version of the original release. I feel ripped off. Guess I'll check track listings from now on before I assume it's the real deal.

How can you call this the “best of” when perhaps his most famous songs aren’t included?

Why the singles versions? That's just a rip off. If I wanted this collection I would purchase the songs individually, from their respective albums and put them in a playlst. I could really just buy two or three and add them into the Changes Bowie folder.

The first song I learned to play on the guitar was Space Oddity. It was just sooo pleasant and smooth to play. From the beginning we all knew he was marching to a different drummer, but it was okay because he was really a gifted talented musician. This is a fine collection of his body of work. Even if you haven't heard of his work this will grow on you. He will truly be missed.

The only way it could better would be if it had MORE. Like the Labyrinth soundtrack, perhaps.

I noticed there’s a little red “E” next to fame, and I’ve listened to the song hundreds of times and have never heard a single curse word in it... I even looked up the lyrics to double check and still didn’t find anything that would make it explicit. Someone explain lol

While I'm part of the younger generation, I still find this music fascinating. A few years ago, I heard "Space Oddity" and it instantly became my favorite song. I even feel a little sad when I hear major Tom sign off for the last time. I don't think we'll ever have another David Bowie, so let's listen to this out of respect and pray he is never forgotten. Rest In Peace

- Great album with some glaring omissions

One hit just rolls into the other until the album bogs down with the latter works included here from Bowie. It's a shame Starman and Panic in Detroit could not have been added instead. Still a good listen!

I had originally purchased only two songs from this album, but since the news I caught of his passing I decided to get the rest of the album. This has all the gems and even the duets with Queen and Mick Jagger and love every one of them. This to me is not only a great collection of his best stuff, but a nice way to give memory to a truly talented song writer and artist. RIP David Bowie your music will live on for a long time. 😇

I bought like 8 songs from this album and later realized they are shortened versions of the songs that ruin some of the pacing that was included with the original longer versions. Im going to have to buy those instead...

Some good songs, but he's overrated overall. A couple 3 star songs and a few 2 star songs, but otherwise they are throwaways. Golden Years was done better by Mason and Heroes was done way better by Wallflowers.
