- Better with age

Unlike other artists, Aphex Twin retains the same nostalgic feel and quality that he’s always had. Always a pleasure to listen to his work

- Wicked Album

I haven't listened to much since the ambient recordings but this is definitely worth the money. Music can be really boring at times and this is a special record. Paul Pilgrim

- Disappointing

I had high expectations for this album but all I received was a guy experimenting on an 90s Casio synthesizer. No song structure, no development, just random pops and buzzes.

- what????

How in the world this win a grammy for top electronic album? this is garbage

- Grammy Material??

Wow, not quite sure how this won electronic album of the year.

- The Return of the King!

Richard doesn't make bad music. Ever. Trust me. Spend the money, Kids.

- get it

album of the year! i have not purchased a physical copy of music in years….got the cd its du-no-mite…thanks RDJ, you rule!

- Our musical overloard

It hasn't really been 13 years as the analord series and The Tuss ep's can't be ignored (because they rule). But this still feels monumental due to its amazingness. If you don't buy this or like this you are dead to me👻

- 13 Years

With Warp Records having confirmed the rumour that the first track “Minipops” is the fabled Manchester track, I can honestly say that I am fully looking forward to this album and will definitely buy it. Still can’t believe that Richard hasn’t released anything in 13 years excluding the Analord EPs which are mysteriously absent from the iTunes store...

- selected confused works?

I've been a fan of aphex twin for quite some time and unfortunately this album fails to live up to my expectations. I disagree with the with acclaim quoting that its “intelligent” and “revolutionary”. No it has a serious personality disorder like its decided to consume every drug under the sun making it rather messy and disjointed. Nothing stands out the way that classics had its combination of raw dirty synth sounds that pounded into your ear or the complex atmosphere and soul smacking creepy sounds of his ambient works instead It feels like the last decade has been spent pressing every synth key and then speeding up the tempo.

- Happy days!!

Chilled drill n bass. Welcome back please don’t leave it so long next time.

- A genius at work

Finally, The Aphex Twin is back. Just listened to the CD in one sitting and can honestly say this is one of his finest albums to date.

- Soooooooooon!

It's been way too long! I can't wait~

- Some Gems

People expect constant innovation from RDJ (as if he hasn’t done enough) here’s a solid album by RDJ and a great one by anyone’s else standard

- :)

all I can say is :)

- Worth the 13yr wait!!

Received the album on vinyl and cd by post today and it sounds SOOO good! Can't believe these tracks are ten years old and sound more fresh than anything else out there......

- 😍😍😍!!

Genius!!!!

- Superb

Having been an Aphex Twin fan for years I was really excited when I heard this was coming out, and it's not disappointed. Yes so it is apparently stuff he's had lying around for years, and some tracks have been doing the rounds live for a while, but so what - it's great. I have listened to this at every opportunity I've had over the last week and every listen seems to throw up differences, little nuances here and there. So difficult to pick a favourite track, it changes every time! 180db has to be up there, just wish that one was longer :-) Can't wait to see what else he's got hidden away! Buy this, and listen repeatedly...

- Buy this

Prolly best electronic album you'll get your ears on in the next 10 year

- Back with a bang

I'm compelled to write my first ever iTunes review on account of the sheer quality of this album. I genuinely believe this may well be Richard D. James' best work, which is quite a claim when considering the standard of his previous efforts. Once again proves he is a cut above the likes of Tom Jenkinson, Luke Vibert & the Sandison brothers (the works of whom I respect very much) as the true daddy in the field of electronic music. So rare to find an album with so many tracks that truly catch the ear and make the skin tingle - probably only 'Drukqs' that comes close. Like many good things, most definitely worth the wait.

- Exciting!!

This is Aphex Twin's first new album for 13 years!! I've been waiting for years for RDJ to release new material so this is the best thing musically to happen this year.

- Corporate crap

Little Richard I totally agree. Warp records profiteering with this lazy RDJ release. I feel we have heard his best. Good luck to his bank account though. A fallen idol. A sad day.

- Just can’t wait.

I was only introduced to Aphex Twin last year and now i can’t wait...

- Long wait

Been waiting for this for a long time, and it was totally worth it :)

- Best News Ever

This is the best thing to happen this year. By Far!

- MR

At LLAASSTTT buddy :-)

- Blown away

This album is just bliss!! Don't hesitate, buy it! You'll love it! Very beautiful!!!

- Oh dear

He's still stuck in 2001. This release is absolutely no advance on the Chosen Lords and Druqks releases. It will sell due to the use of the Aphex Twin name, but that's it. Try compiling a list of, say, RDJ's twenty best recordings. Not one of them will be from this abysmally poor 'comeback'. Go back to retirement, Mr James.

- Mr RILEY

In comparison to the classics album, metapharsic, digereedoo, polynominal-c and come to daddy and the re-mixes, i would say he's best work has been done. Dont rate this album much at all

- A genius no more....

Selected Ambient works 1 was a masterpiece and for me, one of the finest electronic albums I have ever heard. Subliminal beats, deep textures, totally unique and original. This latest album is simply nowhere near it and should be tossed on the scrap heap of pointless electronic noodling. Come on Richard, stop mucking about and release some real music - you're capable of so much more.

- Awesome album

great electronica, puts current music to shame

- Electronic Fartist does it again

Lush

- Dear Mr Richard James

Keep doing your thing. Track 9 is rude as hell. That is all.

- Unreal

Absolutely love this album. Every single track.

- not evolved

first got into electronica 20 odd years ago listening to mr twins offerings. style and tastes evolve and change with time, even if its only slightly. not feeling it with this. took me straight back to the good old days...nice but nicer to be surprised

- Tune in to this station

Aphex Twin I always felt is like tuning in to another station one unlike any others, tuning to another frequency, that stimulates the electric signals in ones brain. The Aphex Twin returns from a 13 years hiatus although paradoxically active via alternate personas. Let me assure you it does not disappoint a bit. The album starts off with Aphex’s familiar twisted funky beats and ends to an atmospheric piano based theme via an escalating D&B/ Jungle like only he can manufacture with an emotional/ soulful perspective. This is undoubtedly an essential album. Tune to this station and you won’t be disappointed. A great return and probably the best listen this year.

- ANALORD

Best album in existence. Enough said.

- Love this album

Timeless but true to form

- Aphex Delivery….

Back to his technical best as expected, the synths flow n glow with warmth n a tad of funky repetition. Tracks 2, 10 and 11 are not of this earth. The rest is superb to say the least, 2nd time round listening and it gets even better. Love his kit list on the digital leaflet. Props to the Atari 1040! lol!

- Modern, Listenable AFX

It's exactly what I hoped for and more. It's the Analord series' spiritual sequel, a Tuss record under the proper Aphex monicker. Soft, warm analog synths and erratic but rhythmic drums with sweeping pads all round. Nothing too mental, leagues away from Drukqs, but that's probably a smart move for a sudden comeback under your main persona. Proper, danceable Aphex acid. Just like the good old days.. and the really late days.. it's just great!

- A Work of Art!!!

Wow!!! This is amazing! A complete work of art!! This is probably the album of the year!!

- Richard D James, PR Genius.

Waiting to hear the whole release until I pass judgment. Undoubtedly these tracks are already 6/7 years old, but still, looking forward to that Twin sound!

- Innovation vs. Brilliance

This album is undoubtedly innovative, however this is sometimes confused with brilliance. Many of the songs sound extremely confused and unfortunately the perfect balance between innovation and quality was not struck, Therefore its a 4 star ting

- Sorry but..

Selected ambient works 1 & 2 beat this hands down! Just sounds like mumble jumble minimal boring techno!? .. Will not be buying.

- Genius

I've been listening to this at least once a day, everyday since I got it and I'm still hearing new things in it it that keep it fresh. Without a shadow of a doubt it's the best thing I've ever heard. You need to hear this.

- Little Richard

This album is ok but it sounds like unreleased Analord stuff put on a new album. Disapointed as I wanted something new, not stuff I feel like I listened to 8 years ago.

- CRAAAACKLE

Gonna be awesome!

- Good

Reminds me abit of an album "Elements of life" by The Advent. You can't get it on I tunes or spotify. Look it up, you won't be disappointed.

- Aphex twin - Syro

awesome album as expected, if you like electronic music you will love this.

- Electronic album of the year

You’re not serious about music if you don’t buy this.

- Amazing

Amazing album, track 10 and 11 are out off this world

- Fucyeah!

Waited a decade for this and it is as incredible as I wanted it to be.

- Aphex Twin

¡ɯooooooooooq Tracks are great. Album as such however is pretty much unexciting. Definitely not a 'masterpiece' and all this blah blah blah 'love richard' rubbish.

- crap

kraftwerk do this so much better..

- Mature chedda

Love it - still expanding and stretching like a gassy balloon floating up away from the dross below

- Lost n found

Round n round n round, goes the the gradual ground of the day to day of our day. Pop in my earphones when on the Northern Line. Clikity clack, clikity clack go the rails. People on there usual rounds. Such is the relief of some sounds that wakes up my deadend mind. A fortunate remind of your kind. Then the flower of our kind is reminded in my mind. Beautifull. Will be listening to this album at the right times. Again n again. Tony De.xx

Syro Wiki

Syro () is the sixth studio album by Aphex Twin, the alias of British electronic musician Richard D. James, released on 19 September 2014 on Warp. It was James's first album under the Aphex Twin name since Drukqs (2001). The album was recorded over several years on a wide range of equipment setups. Described by James as "my pop album, or as poppy as it's going to get", it incorporates styles such as techno, synth-funk, breakbeat, acid house, and jungle, as well as edited vocal samples of James and his family. The artwork features a detailed list of its production and promotional costs. A cryptic viral marketing campaign included an announcement on the dark web and listening events in cities around the world. The album was preceded by the lead single "minipops 67 [120.2]". Syro received critical acclaim and placed in several international charts, peaking at number 11 in the US Billboard 200 and number 8 in the UK Albums Chart. It was nominated for the Choice Music Prize and the 2015 Mercury Music Prize, and won the 2015 Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Album.
