- Beautiful

True music

- Voice is back

I am very glad to hear that John has his voice back. I am more of a fan of his earlier works. The song "Love on the Weekend" reminds me of his earlier work. The other songs are too slow or overly soulful for my tastes. However, if you like his later work, this album should be to your liking.

- John is John and I <3 John :-)

For me, my love and connection to John Mayer's albums has always been a result of a journey. With each listen, my appreciation and connection to the songs grow. John is John and that's why I love him and his music. Seeing him live is what always seals the deal and what originally made me a true fan. This album is no different. It has several catchy tunes (Helpless, Love on the Weekend) and all of them with that trademark Mayer guitar sound. I find his voice and music soothing to the soul....Many entertwined with memories of road trips with my sister and niece. I am glad to see him back....I agree it's not Battle Studies or Continuum, but it's John! And that's enough for me! :-)

- What happened

I guess he's just stuck in a rut. This is elevator music. So sad.

- Incredible

Truly amazing, one of John's best albums of all time

- You're Gonna alive Forever in Me!

You can try to compare it to his previous albums, but this stands alone on its own. Blues, acoustic, piano and just everything about it can connect with anyone no matter what type of music you like. This album has a mature John Mayer which I appreciate. You can't ask an artist to go back in time so appreciate this beautiful work of art. Also, we just saw him at a sold out Forum in LA last night and he is even more amazing live!

- Guitar

Where is his amazing guitar playing?????

- Anticipated blue, but this was good

I was looking forward to Mayer opening fire on this next album. It is obvious John has looked inward regarding his releationships with women. I understand that as a male and a musician. This is a good outlet for him and even though I am not a fan of his mellow side, I found this to be a great piece of work. I pulled a few cuts that give us a taste of his guitar work and vocals. I realize he has to get this out of his system, but please bring us the heat John as blue is the best way to express yourself.

- Beautiful Stuff my man

Whew, been listening to the two initial releases. Hit me deep, as your music always does. All I can say is 'thanks'...! As another reviewer said, your music always does hit me square in the heart just when I need it, through the years. ( And I have learned some amazing guitar from you too over the years. ) You are truly gifted on a level that I am not sure you even you understand. ( I sure don't, I just marvel and enjoy it... : ) A different album every single listen...Your music is from an awesome, honest place. Thanks again John. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 👌🏻✌🏻️🤘🏻🖖🏻

- Finally

Yes this is the new sound

- Been better

I've heard better from Mayer, enough of the soft broken heart crap.

- ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I love this so much it hurts.

- ORIGINAL JM

Can't say how happy I am to hear this voice. This sound. The one I fell in love with. Welcome back John.

- This makes me feel

Good stuff. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but I feel like this is some of his best work in a long time. Especially since he is doing trio stuff again. Moving on and getting over and still feel like your man I really felt.

- Same Old Legend

Unbelievably splendid. As always, Mayer provides a beautiful palet of music that soothes the soul. When it comes to music, he can do no wrong.

- About time...

It's been a while since Mayer has released something this good. I just couldn't get into the last couple of albums. Worth the purchase.

- everything

this album is one of his best. absolutely beautiful and hits home.

- Takes a car ride to appreciate

Wasn't sure about a few of these songs because at first listen it comes of as lame & his falsetto voice is over used. But upon starting the album from start to finish on a longer than usual car ride I was able to feel the pain he felt putting pen to paper. I saw myself in the songs. I still don't think it's better than Continuum, but then again that isn't the point of his albums. He is trying to avoid "painting" himself into the corner musically. He is seeing where his talents and thoughts can take him, & getting to develop his skills. In this he has achieved. 5 stars indeed. (Still was hoping for a hidden track.)

- Doesn't Disappoint

John, you find subtle ways to introduce originality in all of your music. It is never the same and that equates with your beauty as a musician. I love to hear your words, your chords, your musicians and all the wondrous effects you bring to a song. You shower us with so much good energy.

- Mix of Different Styles

"Helpless" sounds like something The Rolling Stones would have recorded back in the 70s. "In The Blood" reminds me of Eric Church. "Changing" starts off slow then breaks into a classic John Mayer blues riff. "Moving On And Getting Over" could be a Trombone Shorty tune or maybe Gary Clark, jr. "Roll It On Home" is more of John "North Dakota" Mayer. All in all, I really enjoy this breath of fresh air.

- Perfect from start to finish!

This might be his best album yet! Great lyrics, great songs, perfect from start to finish.

- Masterpiece

You know it. I know it. John Mayer knows it. This album is up there with every other album he has ever created. This man, musically, can do NO wrong. In the Blood is stunningly perfect songwriting. Heart wrenching. Haunting in its honesty and simplicity. Beautiful. Thank you Mr. Mayer. 🖤🖤🖤

- True artistry

Thanks for a wonderful album, John.

- Gradual bond grows with this exceptional album

I listened to this album in waves as John Mayer released them, and I liked the songs--some more than others. I then listened to all of the waves together in the form of the entire album and I liked the songs even more. I went to see him live and then revisited the album again and presto--I had completely integrated the sounds into my soul. The best albums to me are the ones that grow on you slowly, deliberately. And this is definitely one of them. A true gem. Thank you, Mr. Mayer.

- Ehhh..

Quite frankly idk how some people are saying this is the best album he's ever released. Clearly these people aren't fans that have been around since the Contiuum, Room for squares, As/is albums. This album is better than Born and Raised!! Buuuuut still disappointed in it. It's nothing special, nothing like his old stuff. Will forever be a fan though <3

- GAAAYYYY!

Gayest album cover ever

- Great Stuff

A sampler of different genres he's touched in the past; Blues, Pop, R&B, and Western. In my opinion; John's one of the best musicians we’ve seen in the last 20 years. He's lasted 2 decades and stays relevant, constantly evolving, and challenging himself. I’d put this in my top 5 John Mayer albums and a definite recommend.

- Holy, I think I just shart my pants...

Wow. To be honest I really dislike John. So I wasn't planing on listening to this album. But wow, like him or not this album is epic. This is now one of my favorite albums of all time.

- John's great comeback

This album easily reminds me of Continuum and Battle Studies, and I love it

- Timeless melodies

I have been following John Mayer's music since 1997. This album is one of a kind. Absolutely incredible, mature tones. He really speaks his soul through this album.

- Crying

Great come back. I love it!

- Studio mix is ok. Live is even better.

Firstly I Do enjoy the idea of these songs and the album. Although it does have me missing the bluesy, heavy riffing, trio side of JM . To those who say these songs are bland, forgettable, watered down etc. I know what you mean, but go see him live, I promise they are better in person because they have that punch, dynamics, soul and power that I think they kinda lack here. If you don't like the inital sound of these pieces, go see him live to get a mixture of old and new JM that creates a great contrast with these songs. I saw him live in KC, it was a great show and i would recommend it. so if you don't enjoy this studio mix maybe wait until they release a live album or go see him live.

- Amazing

Brings me back. His music will always be sexy. I don't know how to even explain it. Love it!

- Incredible

Definitely an album worth relistening again and again. A classic

- Truly some of his best work yet

Amen

- The Search

Love this guy so much & hope he finds whatever he searching for but part of me hopes he never finds it because I find pieces of me in all of these beautiful songs he writes 💕

- Something borrowed and something new in the Search for Everything

I concur with some reviewers (including John Mayer himself) who've said that this album reflects a lot of the different musical styles that he's engaged with over the years. I feel vindicated in disliking Paradise Valley because I knew he had this level of creative output still in him. And yet, this album doesn't feel like a bunch of B-sides for one clear reason: I can easily piece together a narrative. To me, the crowning feature of this album is that listening to it in order builds a narrative in the lyrics of someone who loses out on love (Tracks 1-4...Love on the Weekend can work here if you think of it as him looking back and propositioning one last time), wonders if he'll ever be able to find love again (5-7), and eventually accepts where he is (8-12). Here's a track-by-track breakdown of how I think each song could fit into another album musically: Still Feel Like Your Man - Continuum groove with a Battle Studies production value Emoji of a Wave - Born and Raised in both its vulnerable lyrics and acoustic guitar sonic center Helpless - Continuum. This track rocks. Might be the least convincing lyrics on the album, but you gotta love the soaring guitar solo and the quiet backing vocals of "help me!" Love on the Weekend - could be a Battle Studies B-side with choral guitar effect...maybe the only song that doesn't quite feel like it fits in the Search for Everything. Also reminds me a bit of Your Body is a Wonderland for it's idealistic + almost dreamlike imagining of love. In the Blood - Paradise Valley for its musical simplicity (return of stomp! clap!), but the lyrics are so potent...can't believe John Mayer made me buy into a 4 chord song, but the nuances in melody and lyrics make up for the formulaic song structure. It's the anthem that Paradise Valley was lacking. Changing - Another Born and Raised anthem reminiscent of Shadow Days. So acoustic, so simple. Not my favorite track, but it belongs on The Search for Everything for what it has to say. And I love the guitar explosion; a musical change to reflect the thematic change in the album. "Theme" - Musically this reminds me a little bit of Walt Grace's Submarine Test and it could have fit on Born and Raised, but an instrumental track is a new venture for John. A terrific venture at that. Moving On and Getting Over - Continuum...grooves like Vultures does. Never on The Day You Leave - Acoustic instrumentation...the strings push this one out of Born and Raised, but the influence is clear. Out of all the songs, I feel like this one is the most personal with references to events/details from John's life that we don't know about. Rosie - Guitar tone + groove is straight out of Heavier Things. Listen to "New Deep" again, and tell me you disagree. Sweet brass section reminds me of "Clarity". Roll it on Home - has to be Born and Raised. that shuffling drumbeat wouldn't fit anywhere else. The lyrical answer to Whiskey, Whiskey, Whiskey You're Gonna Live Forever in Me - Amazingly vulnerable, and an entirely new musical direction for John (Solo piano!). This can only be from The Search for Everything :) All in all, I think most fans will not be disappointed. I can't speak for the average listener because I'm such a fan. However, because of the musical range of this album I might direct the average listener to this album first in the JM catalog in order to demonstrate the wide range of musical styles he covers. The wide range of musical styles, coupled with the heartfelt lyrics and strong production make this a great John Mayer album. I won't go so far as to say it will be a timeless classic like Continuum, but if John is serious about a 2nd volume of the Search for Everything then maybe his 2017 output will stand up to 2006...I look forward to volume 2! Side note: I can't help but respect John for presumably knowing that he would get crucified in the media for releasing songs inspired by his ex but still doing it anyway!

- John Mayer Fan

Thanks for releasing this new music, John! Great music to listen to while driving, relaxing, and doing a little soul searching! Like wine, his music gets better with time! Love!

- The search for john Mayer

The most beautiful songs I've ever heard in my life are on the album. Thank you

- Perfect.

As always, amazing.

- 1/5

The snowflake album

- In a good place

I personally didn't listen to the 2 waves, I wanted the complete product. I'm glade I waited, this album is complete and composed, even with the folksy stuff. Secondly, good to hear him play guitar again. John is a seasoned vet not a teenie bobber, he's in the adult comtemporary category. This is his best effort since "born and raised."

- 💕

Fantastic. In the Blood...so beautiful and poignant!

- Welcome back, John!

This is the John Mayer I've been waiting years for! In this album, JM really goes back to his roots. It has such a mature sound and each song feels like the beginning of a new album. Releasing it little by little really kept me I trigger and excited for more. This is truly some of his best work. The lyrics have a Continuum feel and a Battle Studies rhythm. This album was well worth the wait. Cant wait to see some of these songs live this summer. Keep rocking it, John. This fan is thoroughly satisfied and can't wait to here more.

- Love The Search For Everything

Each Track captures the emotion of things that everyone goes through in everyday life. Thank you for this John such great work, a true masterpiece. Been a big fan of yours from the start of "Room for Squares" in 2001!!!

- AMAZING!!

Soulful, vulnerable. WOW!

- E e

I enjoyed seeing your flowers okcnieedkfjjt

- The beginning of his renaissance? Yes, indeed.

Welcome back!

- John Mayer gets better with time.

It’s really amazing how as time goes by that his music evolves with such maturity and depth. You can hear the different influences and you feel a little bit closer to him as a person given then topics he writes about. I am sure some songs are pages out of his life. Even more so, the fact that he had vocal issues, surgery and such to the point where he couldn’t sing for 2 years…. and now his voice is still as beautiful and smooth is very inspirational. I love his music and I am so happy that there is such a wonderful musician and artist like him! Rock on!

- still feel like your fan

Worth the 4 year wait on this album. I felt 'changing' pretty much summed up the life's work for Mayer. Quite sentimental, a little existential on the whole.

- Loving the overall Quest

Glad to have John Mayer's music back into the sonic universe. Honestly two waves and an album later, this project still feels like a work in progress. 12 songs don't do the concept justice! The Search For Everything deserves more expression of the artistic quest by its principal artist. Release a part 2 and it would go down as one of the bravest and most successfully executed labor of love by a mainstream artist. It has the potential to revive the attention span of listeners albeit in small doses and that says a lot. On its own one can tell that great thought has gone into the sequencing of he tracks and I dig the overall progression. I do feel it is one or two songs at the end to raising this album from a great album to a masterful one. But maybe the cycle is not close yet...and it wouldn't surprise me if more music is released!

- Finally!

Mayer finally gets it right in the last wave. Beautiful melodies and some deeply personal, heartbreaking lyrics.
