Black Sabbath - Paranoid

Paranoid by Black Sabbath Song Info

Paranoid is a song by Black Sabbath that appears on the band's second album Paranoid. Supposedly, the members of Black Sabbath put together this song in 15 minutes based on a solo by Tony Iommi. This song was only meant to be a "filler", but became one of Black Sabbath's most well known songs: the band members were sent back to the studio to record one more song because the record company deemed the album was too short, and planned to quickly record a filler song, but eventually wrote and recorded "Paranoid". The record company changed the album's name from War Pigs, as it was originally intended, to Paranoid out of fear of a backlash from supporters of the Vietnam War. "Paranoid" was released as a single and received regular airplay on mainstream radio. The single, with "The Wizard" on the B-side, was released in the UK in July 1970 and it reached the number 4. Lead singer Ozzy Osbourne continued to play this song in concert during his career as a solo artist. "Paranoid" was ranked #34 on VH1's 40 Greatest Metal Songs. In March 2005, Q magazine placed it at number 11 in its list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Tracks. Rolling Stone ranked it #250 on their list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. It is #1 in the book The Top 500 Heavy Metal Songs of All Time

- New fans perhaps

If you are new fans of Black Sabbath.... WELCOME, welcome... :D

- About freaking time!!!

Finally! The albums we've all been waiting way too long to get are finally here!!!

- At Last

Almost gave up - Thank You iTunes

- Buy the album, not select songs

This is my first time listening to the whole album front to back, and some songs I never heard before. Young folk like me: buy the whole album, sit down and listen to the whole album. It's an experience very unlike modern records where basically every song is a single; no, here they're all great songs but they're better together. Many songs are 6-7+ minutes long; not songs you turn on quick while you have a couple minutes in the car. Go to your room, put on a nice pair of headphones, let the music drown out all distractions, and just let it take you on a journey. That's how you listen to classics like this.

- Great music

This is around the beginning of the "metal music" era. This also was one of the first metal bands (next to Judas Priest, Led Zeppelin, etc.) and I think this is great! I have the vinyl, it sounds AWESOME on vinyl! Also I like the song "Planet Caravan" and think that people should give it a try. This album was even in Rolling Stone's 500 greatest albums of all time. So this whole album deserves a listen.

- Amazing

Icon! Icon!!

- A Pioneer Ablum In The Heavy Metal Genre

its about time, that itunes put up the early sabbath catalog..that being said, sabbaths first 5 albums are some of the best metal records around..but i find their second album, paranoid, to be perfect..war pigs, paranoid, iron man, fairies wear boots and hand of doom are the best tracks, but bill wards rat salad is amazing with somer superb tony iommi guitar, and geezers bass especially on hand of doom and iron man is out of this world..and of course ozzy is the perfect voice for sabbath...electric funeral is a good gloomy song as well..only song i dsilike, is planet caravan..buy it metal fans! 10/10

- Finally

Awesome that classic Sabbath is finally on iTunes

- Black Sabbath

I have waited for this for so long! I love Black Sabbath!

- Simply great

This is by far my favorite album period. If you only get one Black Sabbath album, Paranoid must be it. Of all of them, there is not a bad one.

- Finally!

I'm so happy they finally put up this album! Rock on \m/

- Their BEST!

I hate going along with what most critics think. Most think Paranoid is Sabbath's best. Most are correct. It is the most consistent and has some of the best must Sabbath has ever put out. If you like metal you MUST have this album.

- No comment needed

Album title speaks for itself.

- Long OverDue

Its Great to see Black Sabbath (With Ozzy ) on iTunes!!

- What's The Point Now?

Sure, it's great that after seven years of being an iTunes user, and some four decades of being a Sabbath fan, I can finally buy original Sabbath albums in digital format. But then, what true Sabbath fan has really been waiting for these? What true Sabbath fan hasn't loaded their own CD into iTunes (Iike I did on a dail-up internet connection, typing my own titles in!) years ago? Why go nuts now and spend $70-$80 to get albums I already own? Unless, that is, the "Mastered for iTunes" actually makes a huge improvement over the versions I have. But I highly doubt it. So yeah, it's great that more people can buy these excellent works, but it doesn't do diddly for me. Can anyone vouch for a significant improvement in sound quality?

- Save a child

Make children listen to REAL music and we might just save the world! Kids listen thats and instrument he is actually playing with out a computer fixing everything.

- Paranoid - The Ultimate Metal Statement

Sabbath's sophomore release is not only one of the seminal band's greatest efforts, it's also one of the greatest rock albums of all time. The album was a #1 record in its homeland of the United Kingdom (this of course during a time when prefab girl and boy bands were virtually non-existent and heavy metal ruled supreme). The album's title track and "Iron Man" have become signature anthems not only for Sabbath, but for air guitarist and karaoke masters alike the world over. But the heavy metal hits didn't stop there. The album also boasts "War Pigs" (good enough to be covered by Faith No More, no less) and the wonderfully titled "Fairies Wear Boots." Hell, the album cover art alone is pure classic as it conjures up a Dungeons & Dragons-meets-Star Wars visual pastiche long before the game or film were even part of the pop culture zeitgeist. How's that for prescience? Songs on here I suggest are: Planet Caravan and Electric Funeral. If you want the singles (War Pigs, Iron Man, and Paranoid get'em from the Greatest Hist Album)

- Better than now

So called metal now is just screaming, but I do like bring me the horizon and a day to remember, but this is true metal and I like to listen to Motörhead and Metallica and I'm only 12. Black sabbath is about war and revenge. Most people at my school say they're metal fans but they don't even know who black sabbath is. So I recommend this album to EVERYBODY!!!!!!!!

- Generals Gathered in their Mases!

Finally The Sabbath is here and here to stay!

- Another 5/5

We all know this is REAL music!

- Amazing

The best songs are War Pigs, Paranoid, Planet Caravan, Electric Funeral, and Hand Of Doom. Basically the whole album is the best song. My least favorite was either Iron Man or Rat Salad. Iron Man is still a good song, but it's overrated. Black Sabbath clearly copied Led Zeppelin's "Moby Dick" with Rad Salad. I highly recommend this album if you like breathing.

- A Masterpiece

What can I say other than this is one of the best albums in history? This is defiantly a MUST HAVE for any true metal head. If you don't like this then there is something wrong with you. Best tracks are "War Pigs", "Paranoid", and "Iron Man".

- Seminal LP

It changed perceptions and expanded boundaries of lyricism and songwriting. This album is the foundation for the metal that followed.

- Satan laughing, Spreads His Wings!

Definitely my favorite Sabbath album. Iomi’s musicianship is fantastic. Despite the overflow of doom metal these days, Paranoid still stands tall above the lot of them.

- It's About Time ITunes!!

Finally the classic Black Sabbath albums everybody wants are on iTunes. Hopefully this will lead to more people appreciating the musical masterpiece that is Paranoid.

- Thank you

Thanks for putting sabbath up. You guys recognize the popular demand and know you can sell every song for $1.29. Smart. Most people I know that love sabbath don't have much dough. You can buy "vol.4" or "black sabbath" among other black sabbath albums at almost any Barnes and nobles for around 4 bucks. Just saying

- ICONIC

With memorable guitar riffs, thunderous drumming, swooning bass, and stunning vocal performances by Ozzy Osbourne, Paranoid is an iconic classic rock album that any rock fan can enjoy.

- Iron Man!

This is one of the greatest song.

- Priceless!!! Sabbath Sound

Love this album! Glad this album is for purchase a Classic! Can listen to this album over an over.... And I have 😁 buy this now!
