And the labels wonder why people don’t want to pay for music anymore. You get no help with this album in knowing who is singing or playing on each track. Why do most labels/musicians feel we don’t need to know anything about an album? Analyzing liner notes (and reading lyrics) while listening to an album used to be a joy of music. And do producers, etc. not want us to know they worked on an album? I doubt it. It really cheapens the album experience. Why did I pay 10 bucks to own this, when I could just stream it through Apple Music? Give me an incentive to own music again. Musically, this is pretty good. Rather inconsistent, particularly in the vocal performances. Ultimately, I can’t decide if going the symphony route is incredibly awesome, or cheesy and a sign of getting old. Probably both. Certainly some tracks work better than others this way, which do and don’t are probably a matter of personal taste.
Live performance was simply, completely, authentically....no words can capture. Stunning is best I can conjure. This recording is fantastic, flat out love it.
This is very great if you're into 90s or grunge, but I really want to know the singers on the songs... Can someone help me please?
Amazing album. It was a shame that Staley had to leave this earth b/c Mad Season could/should have been a powerhouse that would still be around today. Chris Cornell did an amazing job fronting this album.
I found this almost by accident looking for temple of the dog tracks that might be available on iTunes. It made me totally reexamine the Above album and enjoy it even more.
I had no idea that this existed. I'm definitely buying.
as you know, the lead singer of most of the songs has long been dead although a recording of Layne's voice shows up on the last track, "All Alone." Chris Cornell (Soungarden), Kim Virant (Lazy Susan) and Jeff Angell (Walking Papers) all contributed on vocals. Duff McKagen (Guns 'n Roses) replaced John Baker Saunders on Bass, who also passed away.
I agree, it's hard to be 100% sure who is singing or playing on this record - which is a shame, because these guys were arguably one if not THE best band to creep out of Seattle, and certainly one of the very last bands from that mighty era at that. But I will say that a lot of the vocals sound 'eerily' like Ian Astbury' from the Cult - which if so - would be a true godsend for sure. NOT to say that ANYONE could even come remotely close to Layne. But under the sad circumstances, Astbury would definitely be a strong 'second', as well as Cornell. Obviously, no one will EVER be able to replace Layne - hands down. But, just to get to hear 'any' form of Mad Season at this point (especially with all of the complete jokes of the so called 'rock bands' of today) Astbury and Cornell are both 'true' classics when it comes to 'solid' and 'original' singers/frontmen who have certainly paved the way for many and who have definitely stood the test of time from that incredible era of music in both the late 80's and most of the 90's - and yet still sound just as strong and original as ever even today - so I for one simply have NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER in allowing either of these 2 amazing vocalists pay homage to Layne and allow his music, lyrics, and voice - continue on.....hopefully for many moons to come and go.
This is a timeless master piece that will be remembered by future generations. Thank you to each musician for sharing your talents with the world. This collaboration is a beautiful work of art.
It is very difficult to me to say how much I was expecting music of this caliber. I cry at every chord of these incredible artists, who are not only rock stars, but also incredible individuals from a generation gifted with unique human sensibility. I would love to see them perform together live some day. Greetings from Buenos Aires.
