Pink Floyd - A Momentary Lapse of Reason

About A Momentary Lapse of Reason by Pink Floyd Album

A Momentary Lapse of Reason is the thirteenth studio album by the English progressive rock band Pink Floyd, released in the UK on 7 September 1987 by EMI and the following day in the US on Columbia. It was recorded primarily on guitarist David Gilmour's converted houseboat, Astoria. A Momentary Lapse of Reason was the first Pink Floyd album recorded without founding member Roger Waters, who departed in 1985. The production was marred by legal fights over the rights to the Pink Floyd name, which were not resolved until several months after release. It also saw the return of keyboardist and founding member Richard Wright, who was fired from the band by Waters during the recording of The Wall (1979). Unlike most earlier Pink Floyd records, A Momentary Lapse of Reason is not a concept album. It includes writing contributions from outside songwriters, following Gilmour's decision to include material once intended for his third solo album. The album was promoted with three singles: the double A-side "Learning to Fly" / "Terminal Frost", "On the Turning Away", and "One Slip". A Momentary Lapse of Reason received mixed reviews; some critics praised the production and instrumentation but criticised Gilmour's writing, and it was derided by Waters. It was nonetheless a commercial comeback for the band, reaching number three in the UK and US, and outsold Pink Floyd's previous album The Final Cut (1983). The album was supported by a highly successful world tour between 1987 and 1989.

- Love love love this album!

Just discovered Pink Floyd last year and I love this album so much. The Division Bell is as good and really is better. I so wish the Pink Floyd trio of Gilmour/Mason/Wright had done more than just two albums.

- Another classic.

Pink Floyd demonstrates the lack or need for Roger Waters.

- Classic

The album that introduced me to Pink Floyd. Not their best, but still amazing music and incredible lyrics. Too bad the best bands always implode

- Better than 'Final Cut'

Nice not to hear Mr. Muck 'n' Misery. Only flaw is too many sidemen. Otherwise a good album.

- Can’t understand

Although I understand Roger is a huge piece of the Floyd puzzle you could argue without Syd its not really Floyd also (although that’s a tough argument) They contributed immensely but the sound went on (at least for a while). I wish we could see them forever but alas it’s over. I love this album. I can’t understand why it’s not given it’s due.

- Still A Solid Floyd Album

While some folks don't have this album ranked high on their list of Pink Floyd albums, I have always enjoyed. It's edgy and aggresive...to be expected as the first post Waters project. "Learning to Fly" had me hooked so many years ago when it came out. "Dogs of War" was rather appropriate considering we were still sitting in the middle of the Cold War. Give it a listen.

- Intro

This is the first album that got me into pink Floyd having inherited it from my stepfathers collection. "One Slip" is my favorite track off of this one. Highly recommend

- Love it!

One of my favorites! LOVE every song!

- Close to perfection of Darkside of the Moon

This is actually my third purchase of this album. Have bought it on different formats since 87. This album got me hooked on Pink Floyd and the drama of Waters and Gilmour

- Step Up!

It’s a step up from Division Bell & it’s not really saying much! Learning To Fly & On The Turning Away are the reason! The rest of the album is flat, yet again!! I hear people say Syd was Floyd but that’s not true! Waters is Floyd! Remember with Syd, they were decent to good! With Waters being the creative force, they put out Dark Side, Wish You Were Here & The Wall!! Each one of these three out sold every track/album Syd created!! It shows why the heart & sole of Floyd really is! It’s why these Waters albums just don’t stack up! These albums without Waters have never even came close to selling as many copies as DSOTM, WYWH, & The Wall!!

- The Absolute Best

It’s Pink Floyd’s best album, and it’s one of the greatest rock albums to ever be released. It narrates the history of the world indirectly through extremely well constructed rhythm and beats, and very meaningful lyrics. I would definitely recommend buying the whole album. It’s meant to be listened to in order, (song for song) in order to experience its full dramatic and action packed power. The effects and blending are seamless. I could praise this album forever.

- A Great Listen

I find this album has grown on me over the years 👍👍👍👍👍

- guiromaraca

Nothing beat the orchestration and elegance shown thereof. You won't be disappointed!

- Pink Floyd should…

Something I thought of since the release of the remixed and updated version of this album, Pink Floyd should be the first band to ever make an album FREE!!! Make this version of the album free to make it more accessible to all! Plus since it is, more or less, outdated now. Spread the magic of one of the greatest bands ever! Besides…the band can afford it.

- No Roger Waters...

Not Pink Floyd

- Too Expensive

This is a good album but it's overpriced, like all the other Pink Floyd albums on iTunes.
