Godsfulcrum - A damn fine musical statementAhead of his time. This album is filled with 5 star moments but tied together with 3's. It isn't perfect but even it's imperfections shine like jagged peices of flint; sharp, brittle, dark and glistening. Workinonit, Stop, Two Can Win and One For Ghost will have you replaying this over and over again.
I highly recommend Jay Stay Paid, if you're going to pick up any other Dilla; and don't neglect Slum Village.
Gloria72$ - Still listening in 2019!!!This album is a straight banger!!! His crates were so deep and he’s still one of the illest beatmakers of all time!!! He was up there with Pete Rock, DJ Premier, Dr. Dre, 9th Wonder, Marley Marl, Havoc and RZA!!!!
Anik117 - Dilla changed my lifeThis is just one of those albums that stays with you for the rest of your life.
LaronTheDon - One Of The Bestone of the greatest beat tape i ever heard and if anybody disagree doesnt have a taste in music
R.I.P. Jay Dee
kmalik221 - DILLA!Best interment all album of the century
Steezeburger - J dillais rad.
Razor2006 - The LegacyI always thought that J Dilla was underground, but he was major, and his and the last track in donuts, welcome to the show, to me, was real, he was welcomed to the show. In heaven, and it's not 5 stars, it's 6 stars, if he rapped on his albums, that would've went multiplatinum. R.I.P J Dilla, don't forget us, we won't forget u. Peace.
@&$686) - AmazingAn amazing experience that everyone should listen too at least once
nrwmusic55 - These Reviews Are Strange, Very Strange. Seriously .R.I.P. Dilla
Dillanchangedmylife
We love you JayDee
André Burroughs - Dilla’s Magnum OpusThis album is not only an amalgamation of various samples, but an experience of a man’s thoughts during the brink of death. Despite the short length, each song oozes with depth; which showcases Dilla’s mastery with sampling.
I would recommend this album in a heartbeat.
AuerswaldBlue - The Greatest Instrumental of all TimeThe GOAT sets the bar for Hip-Hop for the next 20 years.
hiphop incarnate - seriously important for everyonegenius...this is what you listen too to understand true paradigm for hiphop. I don't expect everyone to get it and I am thankful for that. The album strums my brain in the right way and I cannot explain it any better than that. call me what you want I am very happy with this album....thank you j dilla, for all you have given me- a true child of hip hop.
Tedward99 - R.I.P. J DillaPeople need this music everywhere it will never get old at all. I have to say if you dont like Dilla you are a pop junkie and you should (go away) if you know what I mean
1725393 - UnrealLegendary
Merek04 - Cool and CalmingHis music reminds me of Nujabes, I wish itunes could sell his albums too.
nobody32195 - DopeDonuts is a sick album, Dilla is the best producer
Bmz365 - J Dilla's album: DonutsI've listened to this whole entire album over and over again and I'm still not sick of it. This is one of those kind of records that you can keep on listening to for years to come without getting tired of it. This is a masterpiece in the field of hip-hop and rap beats. J Dilla shows nothing but talent, creativity, and new innovative beats and samples. This album is well over worth the purchase.
THE FART BLASTER - GreatGreat
MilLEOn707 - Most peopleHated that Charles Hamilton recorded material over these beats but who else coulda done it better plus Charles didn't do it for monetary gain he spit some fire over some of the best beats Jay Dee ever produced, some if the best instrumentals here
Northern Cali G - THE BESTDope,every track.Worth it.
DJ OHH! - Just press play and no skipping!I recently got back to producing and look for inspirational sounds and different styles. I heard of J Dilla back in the day, but not till now with fresh ear I listened to this album and was blown away. H made his own lane and had samples from songs that people spend a lifetime to dig. RIP Dilla. This album is artwork in audio and should be a guide to new producers who own a MPC or ever wanted to make art with music.
swagd00d - DillaProbably the best producer of our time. He had the illest beats ever. His use of samples were dope as crap. I wish he was still here. If he was, he would be the most popular producer out. I'm not a rapper at all, but it's fun to freestyle over this album.
RIP Dilla.
Speakeasy Thoughts - The Mecca of productionThis album CHANGED the way producers sculpted their thoughts.
Regina Lister - DopeRIP Jay Dee one of the greatest! This album is Fire!!!
S free - Dilla Lives on!Love Writing rhymes to Donuts or just chillin. It's also great to hear tracks other artist collaborated with Dilla on. As par the course This CD bangs!
abcforeverz - PerfectThe greatest instrumental hip hop album of all time in my opinion. Sad he left us all too soon, one wonders where his talents would have taken him career-wise. Regardless, respect for that real, and support it! Buy it!
caliwag12 - This album changed my life! This album from start to finish is a piece of art! Jay dee influenced me to even start producing and to elevate my game to a higher degree. I wish he was alive for me to meet him but I bet he's in heaven looking down on earth seeing how many people's lives he changed. Rest in peace Dilla!
Stacey Fairconeture - Nice.Amazing beats from an amzing producer. R.I.P. J Dilla.
Steve Biko - J dilla!!!J dilla all I have to say
Yother the amish ninja - one of the best cds ive heardi don`t much care for rap or hip hop as ive found it sounds repetative but donuts is changing that every song feels different and yet connected and when you look at the album as a whole it creates a worthy epitaph for j dilla and it has altered my opinion on hip hop/rap to a degree
Bbannigeri - Seamless and timelessThis record has been out for more than a decade, and still stands apart from anything since. It's eclectic, exciting, endearing, beautiful and unique, all while serving as the backbone for modern hip hop. Give it a listen. Easily one of the greatest albums of the century. RIP DILLA
Jorban hinder climber - ONE OF THE GOATI SWEAR I WILL HAVE AN ALBUM OF ME RAPPING TO ALL THESE INSTRUMENTALS
Itsawrap - FireYo some of the hottest beats in the game.
crawlrawl - Props to those...I'd like to give props to all of the Dilaheads out there who have taken time to post a well-deserved 5 star review of Dilla's "Donuts" album. I want to give an extra special thanks to all of you who posted said 5 star review between Feb. 7, 2006 and Feb. 10, 2006. The real heads will know what this means. R.I.P. J Dilla, from Michigan.
GOLFWANG69 - Amazing.....It's a shame that J Dilla wasn't around that long to enjoy his fame from "Donuts". "Lightworks", "Waves", & "Last Donut of the Night" sound cool & a tad sweet like a donut. If Dilla was alive, he could've made a "Donuts 2" if he could.
R.I.P: J Dilla- (1974-2006)
Russ 12 - Rest In Peace Dilla!Alright well, for those who dont know J Dilla or Jay Dee was a legendary Hip Hop producer and an ill MC. He produced most of The Pharcydes second album in 1995, which was a masterpiece (IMO). Of course he put out his own material as well this is probably my favorite work from Dilla. When you listen to this album you hear well blended soulful Hip Hop instrumentals. That give you a weird feeling at least for me. I think the really deep feeling about this album is that he completed this album on his deathbed with a portable Tunrtable,Vinyls and a Powerbook.
The Key Maker - ESSENTIAL!When I think of something that should be put in a time capsule for future civilizations to unearth, I think of this masterpiece.
miklo1019 - My Favorite Album Of All Time🔥🔥🔥This album is my favorite album of all time🔥I know it is not the greatest by all standards but it is my absolute favorite, the songs take you on a mental rollercoaster as you listen to this lp, and J Dilla made the greatest rollercoaster ever with this project right here! I am an aspiring producer and I never really thought I could do it at all. But after looking up instrumental albums I found this one and after this first song I was hooked. I did my research on J Dilla and he is now my favorite producer of all time. I am 15 years old and I hope that when I start making music I can leave a lasting legacy on not just hip hop but music in general the way he did. RIP to J Dilla aka Jay Dee aka Dilla aka GOAT🔥🔥🔥
deathheated - no wordsme cry like a little baby when i listened to this
Quigs311 - Dilla Changed My LifeThis is one of the most beautiful, funky, brilliant, insanely talented albums I've ever heard in my entire life. Listening to this album and learning the background to not only the songs, but Dilla's life, has been both fun and rewarding. It's so unfortunate that a musical genius like Dilla died so early, but he left us with this unbelievable piece of awesomeness to grace our eardrums to remember this man's unrivaled musical mind. Rest in peace, Dilla.
be still know God - OMG AMAZING!!!!Amazing that nobody has ever been able to fill this man’s talent!!!!!!!!!!
SDA255 - Perfect Beat TapeLive from Dilla's hospital bed. This guy poured his dying breath into this album and it shows. The songs are short, sweet and alive. Dilla wasn't content to find that simple groove and let that be that. These songs constantly bend and twist as he manipulates the speed of the samples and layers in some precise flourishes. A classic that you'll find yourself constantly going back to for a listen.
HighInTheSky - Amazing. You just cannot describe this album. Some say a picture is worth a 1000 words but this is worth a million pictures. It is a great feeling you get when you listen to this. Much appreciated Jay Dee!
RIP J Dilla...
Beatstandard Pro - No OneDis it better. RIP DILLA
MetalFacedVillain91 - J Dilla has proved...that Hip-Hop can just be simple, fun beats to listen to, and no need for any lyrics. For some, a specific taste in music may be required to enjoy this album. Nevertheless, J Dilla has touched and inspired many with his music.
Dtffsxvfxc - top 5 five hip hop albuM everFantastic
Free Willy - Let me tell youI'm not ashamed to admit it. This album made me cry. Very special musician. Thanks for your time on this earth and the musical gifts you gave us.
fanofnoises - So close to perfect. It's all just so great, but so short...like having one bite of every type of your favorite food. "Lightworks" was the first song I heard, and it spontaneously made me feel four. I was in love, I would have paid a hundred bucks for the disc (you might not have the same reaction if you're under thirty). But Jay Dee was really a genius, and if he were still here, it'd be worth it to start a campaign to make this album into 5 albums. He had so many ideas and so little time, and I'll take what I can get. R.I.P. Dilla.
NickG171 - Best CD of 2005.This is without a doubt the best hip-hop CD of 2005. Yeah, Kanye West's Late Registration is great too but look to this CD. J Dee literally made it on his death bed. My favorite tracks are The New, Two Can Win, The Diff'rence, Welcome To the Show, Last Donut of the Night, & Bye (The same beat used on Common's So Far To Go). People, go out and buy this instead of that auto-tuned, computer crap that is so popular today. RIP J Dilla.
