Janet Jackson - Unbreakable

About Unbreakable by Janet Jackson Album

Unbreakable is the eleventh studio album by American singer Janet Jackson. It was released on October 2, 2015, and is the first album released under her independent label Rhythm Nation Records, disseminated by BMG Rights Management. Seven years prior to its development, Jackson parted ways with Island Records due to dissatisfaction over the company's lack of promotion for her tenth studio album Discipline (2008). As a result, speculation arose as to whether she would pursue yet another traditional recording contract with a major label or release music through alternative means, such as the 360 deals offered by Live Nation Entertainment. In 2009, she suffered the unexpected death of her brother Michael Jackson; she later performed a special tribute to him at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. She also ended her seven-year relationship with record producer Jermaine Dupri. Although she began recording new material with producer Rodney Jerkins, she eventually abandoned the project. After starring in feature films Why Did I Get Married Too? and For Colored Girls in 2010, she embarked on the world concert tour Number Ones, Up Close and Personal in 2011 to promote her second compilation album. In 2013, she indicated she was once again working on a new record. Later that year, she also revealed that she was married to her third husband, Qatari businessman Wissam Al Mana. She announced in May 2015, that she would embark on the Unbreakable World Tour and release her eleventh studio album through her own independent record label as a result of a partnership between herself and BMG. Unbreakable reunites Jackson with the songwriting/production duo Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, who last collaborated with her on her ninth studio album 20 Y.O. (2006). Songs on the album also include rappers J. Cole and Missy Elliott as featured artists. Its theme reflects various experiences over the course of her life—including aspects of her childhood and the loss of Michael—in addition to socially conscious messages related to her 1989 album Rhythm Nation 1814. Its lead single "No Sleeep" became her 40th entry on the US Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, peaking at number 63, as well as her most successful entry on the US Adult R&B Songs chart, topping the chart for nine weeks. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, becoming Jackson's seventh album to top the chart in the United States. It also peaked within the top 40 of most major music markets. Receiving predominantly positive reviews, numerous music critics praised the album's diversity of sound and Jackson's vocal technique throughout its production. Reviewers also complimented her willingness to engage in experimental sound rather than conform to contemporary musical trends, as well as the confidence she projects in spite of ageism in the music industry.

- Incredible!

This is an INCREDIBLE album from start to finish. Every song is amazingly reflective, with strong, beautiful vocals, and will hit you in either your heart, soul, or feet! It's been over a year since it's release and I still listen to this album between 3-5 days a week.

- Wonderful

Just another great Janet album So happy for her!!!

- Great Comeback

I absolutely loved this album. So glad she's back (:

- Love it

This album is great, we want more music Janet!! 💛🔥

- Title Says It All

She truly is unbreakable. Her lyrics still have so much insight to share, and the vocals are still on point. The Great Forever, Night, Black Eagle, and Well Traveled are my faves. But this album plays so well from start to finish, in the tradition of her best work.

- Alright guy

Kind of crappy

- FIVE STARS

Janet still has it. Mature and SEXY. Janet is in a good place. It's beautiful to see/ hear.

- Dancing to her own tune

After an eight year hiatus since her last studio album Unbreakable reminds us why Janet is a legend and broke just about every record there is during her 30+ year career as one of music's most influential trendsetters. Unbreakable sees Janet tackle transcendent love, enlightenment, survival and social issues that plague us as much today as during the Rhythm Nation era. The album is a welcome return to the song writing and production triumvirate of Janet, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis (with contributions from Dem Jointz). It sees Janet dancing to her own tune. The album is instantly classic Janet yet entirely contemporary without chasing any trends. Indeed the first single 'No Sleeep' a quiet storm mega hit (12 weeks at #1 on Billboards's Adult R&B Chart) sets the mood for this suite of songs. Yes there are uptempo bangers encompassing R&B, hip-hop and house stylings but it is all uniquely Janet. Despite zero promotional effort not only did this album debut at #1 (Janet's 8th Studio album to do so), but it produced 3 Top 10 singles on the Billboard Adult R&B chart ('No Sleeep', 'Unbreakable' and 'Dammn Baby', the latter staying on the chart for over 5 months!). That's a huge haul considering the ageist and sexist agenda of the pop music scene. I still listen to this album on a regular basis over a year since it's release. It's very strong, varied and beautiful.

- Masterpiece

This LP, IMHO, was the culmination of Janet's life experience, which resulted in a mature, expressive effort. She always maintains an edge with her music, meaning she never gets schmaltz-y or boring, and both lyrically and musically, it's a cohesive, colorful package. Not sure why this LP didn't generate at least one Grammy nomination, but it just goes to prove that she doesn’t need a Grammy nom to validate her work, especially at this stage of her career. From start to finish, this is an awesome album.

- Smh

7 years after the lack luster Discipline , here we have yet another disappointing record . Damita jo was definitely her last appealing effort than anything she released after that . And that was 11 years ago prior to this 2015 release . Very sad

- Love This!!!

This is definitely classic Janet. This album has no skips. Great songs

- AWESOME!

Great album from beginning to end! It is very eclectic and it comes from the heart!

- Timeless

This album is simply amazing. You can tell she put her whole heart and soul in this album. While it’s not the sexy Janet I’ve grown up listening to, it’s simply one of her best albums and a reminder of why I’m a lifelong fan!

- Amazing

Best album of 2015 and 2016. Hands down.

- Sadly this album was re released!

- Unbreakable

What a fitting title after all that she had gone thru up to that point. It is her best album since All For You. This album marks a return to form for Janet!

- Mostly forgettable

Check out No Sleeep, Night & Dammn Baby

- Janet's back and truly Unbreakable

So great to have a return to form for Janet Jackson. She gives us a smooth groove with 'No Sleeep' and also the gorgeous title track, which is an ode to her loyal fanbase. Her voice sounds lovely throughout! Great lyrics, great vocals, smooth grooves - and most importantly, a GREAT MESSAGE. The masses really need to hear this album. Black Eagle, Shoulda Known Better and The Great Forever are particularly moving. Welcome back, Janet. Please don't leave us for so long again!

- Beautiful

I love this woman so much!!!!

- ❤️

❤️

- Horrible

She really should have canceled this album after the first few songs like she does all of her concerts. I’ll just enjoy her first few albums when her music was still good.

- Liberian Girl

Janet is a real inspiration the essence of her smile her style Waow this album is nice and wild. The great forever with some MJ left me speechless did not see that coming. Michael would be so proud look at Miss Janet she is back in Control! Never gonna stop!! Simply perfection the positive vibes and awesome beats in each song. The album is magnificent so catchy. - What happen to the 2 Be Loved Song

Hey what happen to the 2 Be Loved song and I really love that song so much and the Unbreakable album is amazing.

- Full of Heart

This is one of my favorite albums to listen to. From start to finish. I especially like to put it on when I cook. The love Janet put in to this album is a welcome ingredient 💜 to my life. These songs lift me up. They assist me in raising my vibration, moving my body, bonding with my family, and aligning with who I truly am. Thank you Janet. 💖

- She’s back!!!

Love it, glad she’s back!!!

- Worth purchasing

Best album since All For You

- Groovy but Something is Off

There are a coupleOf tracks that are nice. But, it feels kinda artificial. Specifically the EDM influence. I’m not a big fan of EDM. I know it’s the flavor used a lot in music lately. But it’s overused! I kind of don’t like the direction that her music is beginning to go. Though her music is pop-prominent, there was a soulful feel to it that EDM cannot capture.

- Amazing Album!

It’s a great record!
