About Iron Maiden - The Book of Souls Album

IRON MAIDEN’s 16th studio album The Book Of Souls was released globally on 4th September through Parlophone Records (BMG in the U.S.A.). It was recorded in Paris with their longstanding producer Kevin “Caveman” Shirley in late 2014, with the finishing touches added earlier this year. However, the band decided to delay its release so that vocalist Bruce Dickinson, who was recently given the all-clear from a tumour, would have time to recuperate sufficiently to join in the preparations for the album’s launch. ..

The Book of Souls (Iron Maiden) Album Reviews

  • Fantastic even in their old age

This album amazed me. Empire of the clouds is absolutely incredible as well as the title track and if eternity should fail.
  • dont like it

dont like any songs off this album
  • The Kings are back!

Iron Maiden has motivated me to be a much better Bass Player, learning all the trick of Steve Harris has payed off, glad to hear more of them!
  • You will be maidened in this album

After all these years, this album will rise up to top three of my all time favorite Iron Maiden albums. The creativity and musicianship are still very strong. Every song is a classic Maiden song. When you think that you have close to the end of the album, bam they hit you with the epic Empire of the Cloud! This is my favorite of this album. I have been listening to it for a 10 days straight, at least once a day. It is a great tune. For all Maiden fans and metal fans in general, this album is a must own album. Wow, great work!
  • failed to download

    I blame itunes.
  • The Triumph of Modern Maiden

    Baseballl Dude
This is my third favorite Iron Maiden album behind 7th Son and Powerslave. The epics on this album are the highlight: Empire of the Clouds is a sprawling behemoth, and I can bang my head to the title track and The Red and the Black all day. The rest of the songs are all spectacular. It took me a few listens to appreciate The Great Unknown and Shadows of the Valley, but now those are two of my favorites. After playing through the entire Final Frontier album with straight 8th notes, I'm glad Iron Maiden brings back the swing/triplets in five different songs, most notably in Death or Glory. This album as a whole does the impossible: it keeps you entertained for 90+ minutes with hardly a dull moment, and it has tremendous re-listening value. The Book of Souls proves that Iron Maiden's modern formula is capable of producing successes that equal or exceed their best work from the '80s.

Iron Maiden - The Book of Souls Album Wiki

The Book of Souls is the sixteenth studio album by English heavy metal band Iron Maiden, released on 4 September 2015. It is the band's first studio double album, and therefore also their longest to date, with a total length of 92 minutes. Its launch and supporting tour were delayed to allow vocalist Bruce Dickinson time to recover from the removal of a cancerous tumour in early 2015. It is also their first album to be released on Parlophone, since the end of their 30-year relationship with EMI Records. Produced by long-time Iron Maiden collaborator Kevin Shirley, The Book of Souls was recorded at Guillaume Tell Studios, Paris from September to December 2014, which they had previously used for 2000's Brave New World. The band wrote and immediately recorded many tracks in the studio, resulting in a spontaneous live feel. The album's first release, "Speed of Light", was issued as a music video on 14 August, and simultaneously as a digital download and CD single exclusive to Best Buy. In addition to being their longest studio record, it also contains the band's longest song, "Empire of the Clouds", at 18 minutes in length, which was also issued as a single for Record Store Day on 16 April 2016. While not a concept album, references to the soul and mortality are prominent, realised in the Maya-themed cover artwork, created by Mark Wilkinson. A critical and commercial success, The Book of Souls topped the album charts in 24 countries. It earned the band their fifth (first consecutive) UK No. 1, following 1982's The Number of the Beast, 1988's Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, 1992's Fear of the Dark and 2010's The Final Frontier. In the US, it matched The Final Frontier's success on the Billboard 200, repeating the group's highest placement at no. 4. It also marks the longest gap between studio releases in the group's entire career; at five years, following The Final Frontier..
