Journey - Revelation

About Revelation by Journey Album

Revelation is the thirteenth studio album by American rock band Journey, and their first with lead singer Arnel Pineda. It features 11 new songs ("Faith in the Heartland" was previously recorded with Steve Augeri), 11 re-recorded greatest hits (all featuring Pineda) and a DVD (North American version only) featuring the current lineup's March 8, 2008 concert in Las Vegas, Nevada. Three singles penned by Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain were released to radio: the distinctively Journey-sounding "Never Walk Away," "Where Did I Lose Your Love," and the power ballad "After All These Years". "Where Did I Lose Your Love" and "After All These Years" both found success on the adult contemporary charts; "Where Did I Lose Your Love" peaked at No. 19, while "After All These Years" peaked at No. 9 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart and stayed on the charts for over 23 weeks. On May 14, 2008, MelodicRock.com reported that Journey and Frontiers Records agreed to add "an exclusive original bonus track, "Let It Take You Back", a mid-tempo rocker, to the European release to close the album. Revelation was recorded throughout early 2008 at The Plant in Sausalito, California by John Neff. The album was released in the U.S. on June 3, 2008 by Nomota LLC (Schon's personal recording label) exclusively through Walmart, and in Europe on June 6, 2008 through Frontiers Records. In addition, Wal-Mart also released a limited-edition ZVUE 1-gigabyte MP3 player pre-loaded with discs 1–2 of Revelation. The album was produced by Kevin Shirley, who also produced Trial by Fire and Arrival. On its first week of release, Revelation sold over 105,000 copies, marking a 1,400% increase over the first week sales of the band's 2005 release Generations. The album debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Independent Albums chart, No. 2 on Billboard Rock Album chart, and No. 5 on the Billboard 200, where it remained for 42 weeks. The album was not only a huge success in the United States, but also reached the charts in 9 different countries. Revelation was nominated for Album of the Year in Classic Rock Magazine's annual poll. On December 18, 2008, the album was certified platinum by the RIAA, making it Journey's first such certification since their 1996 album Trial by Fire. According to Nielsen Soundscan, Revelation has sold more than 1,000,000 copies in the U.S. as of November 2009.

- Journey with AP

I love the new recordings of their most iconic songs with their new vocalist. Great story by the way. Just adds relevance to the band today, expands their follower base and just takes them into a new category that matches the vibes of the 21st century. I was in my teens when their music was at the top with Steve Perry - wonderful voice, so I was intrigued by their come back. The new singer, the story behind him is just appealing to the millenials an gen Y. Steve will never be forgotten. But AP is just as awesome!

- Arnel has a karoke style voice!

The dude has pipes to me most of these songs sound like karaoke style how he sings them! they should have never re recodred these songs!

- Love it!!

*****!

- Steve Perry Wannabe

I can appreciate that Journey moved on after Perry's departure, but finding a sound-alike vocalist to replace Perry is proof that even the band knows they were better with Perry. Re-recording tracks originally sung by Perry is just rubbing Perry's face in it. If the band wanted to move forward without Perry, they should've moved forward with a new sound and left their back catalog alone. The re-recorded versions of hit tracks are just knockoffs of the original classics. Neil Schon is still an amazing guitarist, and I believe Journey could've started a new Journey chapter with a vocalist with a voice of his own instead of trying to reinvent Perry. Sadly, they're still living in the past.

- Too many haters!

There are a lot of negative reviews here on the re-recorded songs. Don't listen to these haters. Give this dude a chance. Steve Perry gave it up. Journey wanted to continue like any other band and so here we are. Just like it or dont like it. No need to hate. The song Never Walk Away is amazing btw! Love it!

- Amazing

As good as a replacement as it gets. Fabulous.

- Not bad at all

I feel for the guys in Journey. Steve Perry ditched on the tour for their comeback album and never came back. For some reason he refuses to appear with them at all. I am not sure if there are hard feeling on his part but he even refused to sing with them at their Hall of Fame induction. (He has sand Journey songs in his solo concerts). Enter Arnel Pineda. He has stepped in admirably. He has his own unique sound but can pull off a pretty respectable Steve Perry cover. I don’t blame these guys for moving on. They had a great thing going and Steve dumped them. This is a really good freshman effort with Arnel in the lead. They even re-record their greatest to make them their new sound with Arnel. I can’t blame them. “Re-invent and move on”. Give the A side a listen. Tracks 1, 2, 5 & 6 are especially good. They go on to release and even better sophomore effort in “Eclipse” and just released a good new song in 2021.

- Great Album!!!!

Great album but you guys need to add Let It Take You Back from the International Edition.

- As A Die Hard Journey Fan

Yes I go all the way back to jamming with Journey in my mid-Teens in the late 70’s! I saw what I knew to be “my Journey” (Perry, Schon, Cain, Valory, Smith) on 3 tours in the 80’s. Escape, Frontiers, and Raised on Radio. Well, not the last one. Randy Jackson (American Idol was on Bass & don’t remember the drummer). I can go to my grave a happy camper because I witnessed the true perfection of this band. Now. When this current band writes music that’s not meant to be or sound like a mimic of the legendary Voice, they do good. There are 2 tracks (Track 1 and Track 6) on this album that I actually enjoy. I enjoy because it’s Arnel singing and he’s not trying to sound like The Voice, he sounds like Arnel and that’s great! Truly, love those two tracks. But when you remake legendary Journey music that was perfection, why you’re just taking a Monet and spraying graffiti on it. You don’t do that - it’s wrong. It only shows that you have truly become a cover band. Please don’t poo poo on your Monet’s anymore.

- Meh

Not my cup of tea.

- Journey is no one other than!

Arnel Pineda may sound like Steve Perry BUT he also has a style like no other! At first I was ignorant to not accept Journey once Steve Perry left! Let’s get it straight! They are unlike anyone else no matter who is singing. Many groups before and after Journey have had band members leave or pass away but the group lived on! For example, anyone following Kiss, Foreigner, RATT which by the way has all gone through band members! Yes, Kiss lost Peter Criss and Ace Frehley along came an awesome drummer Eric Carr, a very talented man but lost too young! Ratt lost many many talented band members and yes, Steve Perry was great BUT Arnel is now carrying that torch, and doing an awesome job! He can sing original songs along with te-recorded material but all in all, they are still JOURNEY! Great Job Arnel Pineda, carry on!

- I’m here for it.

I love Steve and I won’t be replacing any of his tracks. That said, I understand why these songs are here. One man is not a band. It is reassuring to know that if you go to a Journey concert, you will still be able to hear your old favorites! And maybe some NEW ones too!! I am liking what I hear👂 and I am here for it! Adding the new songs (1,2,5,9)to the old playlist. No hate.

- Ripped off

Just got a new phone and reloaded from cloud. Was going through my downloaded music and found half this album now missing. I paid for the whole album when I bought it and expect all the songs to remain available. They wonder why people pirate music...

- Lost my songs....

Bought this album, now the distributor removed half of them from my purchase, BE CAREFUL, you may lost your purchase and Apple are not able to help. I just feel like someone came to my house and stole me this album... the thief is Long Shot Factory...
