- Disappointed

Didn't see the 1st film till 95, It was the soundtrack I heard first that lead me to see it. Ridley Scott is quoted saying, Vangelis was the soul of the 1st film. I couldn't agree more. I don't hate this soundtrack but I'm very dissappointed at what I think it should have been. There is a glimpse of Vangelis sound throught most compositions, but it really lacks a solid score or any memorable song. The track Mesa really came close, and should have been the score. I'm completly puzzeled with why anyone thinks Lauren Daigle voice or the song belongs with this films soundtrack. At least Presley & Sinatra songs were part of the movie, not just background music.

- Gorgeous, Ethereal, Transcendant

Not sure what some are hearing but the textures are spectacular. A reminder to some "listeners".... this is FILM MUSIC. I cant wait to see how this works in the film but to say it's terrible or could have been much better is apalling. This is a beauty that is inventive, ethereal, textured with a multitude of unique sounds and I can bet that this marries the story to a T. Brilliant and Oscar worthy.

- Drenched in dystopian atmosphere

A powerful, cyber-enhanced, and melancholy, musical score. Ranges from quiet sadness to bombastic epicness. A few throwbacks to Vangelis himself and to the original Blade Runner as well.

- The Stars of the Lid album we've been waiting for

This is an amazing work of art and it is astonishing something like this was produced as part of a major Hollywood film release. Of course, the same could be said about Blade Runner 2049. I absolutely love movies that are actually art house films but end up with huge budgets. (They're the best ones.) A name as big as Zimmer's was probably needed to get the greenlight on this extended piece of genius, because there is no way a normal Hollywood suit signed off on this. This album is most definitely not for everyone, but if you are one of its people, you will love it.

- Wow.

It feels like Mr. Zimmer went back to his roots on this one and really found a way to bring the essence of the orignal Blade Runner score into a entirely original score of his own. This is far and away hs best work in ages. I would be curious to know how much of the score is Mr. Wallfisch.

- Perfection.

This is fantastic. Sublime. Perfect. This music is hauntingly beautiful and elevates everything onscreen. I can't recommend this enough.

- Greatest of all time

The best soundtrack I've ever heard for the best film I've ever seen. A true scifi epic masterpiece with Hanz Zimmer lighting it up.

- 2017 and perhaps the decades most jaw-dropping film

To put it clear and simple this is probably the most captivating movie I have ever seen. And with any good movie comes an incredible soundtrack.

- Vangelesque

When I heard that they didn't get Vangelis I was disappointed. I thought it impossible to conceive the movie without his music. So when I had heard they had originally gotten Johann Johansson I was intrigued but thought it would be too much of a departure from the world of Blade Runner. As that didn't work out, I would still like to hear what he came up with. Shortly after, they had gotten Hans Zimmer, and I initially thought he couldn't adapt. Well, he did. I didn't have high expectations for the music, but overall it's quite good. There are quite a few inspired synthesizer sounds, and they sound glorious. There is quite a bit to enjoy, and it has elements of Vangelis' style and sound with something more jarring and aggressive, perhaps NIN / Trent Reznor. As an accompaniment to the movie, the music is certainly effective and beautifully describes the action and vivid imagery. The only complaint is that I would've enjoyed more themes, melodies but overall quite good. Considering that it would be nearly impossible to top the original soundtrack, Hans Zimmer did an admirable job. He manages to capture the essence of the Blade Runner film within the music. The last song by a vocalist is irrelevant and unnecessary, and beneath the quality of the movie and the rest of this soundtrack.

- why is this not Itunes mastered?

there is absolutley no reason why any artist (especially a score/soundtrack artist) to release anything on itunes and not have it mastered for itunes from the start.. other than that I like this, its true to the roots of the OG Blade Runner.

- Not worth the ordeal

This is just not a good soundtrack. It lacks any reasonable sense of musicality. There is no sense of meaning to the amporphous sonic scapes. The inclusion of songs only emphaiszes the meaninglessness of the "music". Presley and Sinatra demonstrate the power of music. "Almost Human" is derivative, poorly performed and ridiculously dated. What is sad about this soundtrack is that it fails to match the visuals in artistry. Why not have a stronger more trained voice singing the song? Why not have discernible melodies instead of needless punctuated sound blobs that resemble slammed doors rather than actual instrumentation? Why not spring a few extra piano notes to demonstrate some sense of focus and purpose? Why bother titling the pieces, there is no differentiation in tone or mood? Why not hire an actual person talented at soundscapes? Lustmord would have been perfect for this soundtrack, and he had least would have brought an artistry that this sorely lacks. I wouldn't recommend this soundtrack at all, in fact, I feel like a fool for buying it.

- Awesome!

Incredible movie. Love the way they kept the original feel by using Vangelis with a mixture of Hans Zimmer.

- Fit the movie increbily well!!

Honestly thought it fit the movie so well! Sure its somewhat different that the original but it fit the tone of the movie perfectly.

- Amazing music

As a huge fan of the original - this captures the essence of the new movie and more. Some very haunting themes. If you compare - it must be to the Blade Runner Trilogy album with its original and music inspired by - so many different components.

- Worthy Successor... almost

Yes, five stars although I do have a couple of nitpicks. I look at this in the same way I looked at Daft Punk's score for "Tron: Legacy" compared to the Wendy Carlos amazing off-time-change compositions for the original "Tron": younger minds, different ideas. Not fresh, but different. I was mostly glad that the music BR2049 wasn't some EDM-influenced racket. There's a place for that and this ain't it. I see some complain that it uses too much of the Vangelis-written themes which I really felt wasn't out of place. Much like Jed Kurzel's adaptations of Jerry Goldsmith's "Alien" score for "Alien Covenant", I found them to be a welcome note of familiarity in a visual world that's very much updated from the original. It's not unlike comparing scenes of NYC in the 1930's versus now. Where Vangelis's work was steeped in a classic "film noir" tradition (which probably was made moreso with the Deckard voiceover in the theatrical release of the original), Zimmer & Wallfisch have a more modern sound to fit a modern film. My two issues: Just me, but a little more organic, analog instrumentation in certain moments wouldn't have been a bad thing. The right instruments at the right time could've given certain dialogue passages a little more heft. Again, that's my armchair filmmaker side coming out to play. Then, there's that synth that sounds like they sampled a crotch rocket motorcycle in a tunnel and tuned it to suit their needs (reference "Pilot" around the 1:48 mark). Playing it though home speakers seems to take the harshness out a good bit but, in the theater, I guess I was sitting in the sweet spot where I'd get the brunt of whatever frequencies were gonna give my ribs a bit of a shaking.

- Deep, mindful, thoughtful

This score reaches into the soul! Nicely done. As pleasing as the original score.

- Great soundtrack

Listened to this SEVERAL times. Great soundtrack. Don’t compare this OST to Vangelis’s.. they’re two different movies, two different feels. I recommend both of them!

- Worth buying

Loved both movies and the Vangelis soundtrack. While this soundtrack is clearly different from the first, it’s a strong soundtrack and I was happy I bought it after a dozen listens now. Just make a playlist taking out the Elvis and Sinatra tracks and loop it over and over for a wonderful experience. If you loved the sound in the 2049 movie then you’ll more than likely love this too.

- Watch the film before reviewing the score...

I’m a big Blade Runner fan, saw the first film in the theatre when I was eight and it forever impacted my imagination as a young artist. All these later Zimmer pulled off the right score for this film. I ‘thought’ I wanted more original themes but after seeing the film today, this score fits it perfectly. I loved the movie and the score. Great job.

- Individual Purchases Not Available

I like the music, though it’s not as distinct as the original. My real grip is that the individual music I purchased, even after I decided to buy the whole album, is unavailable to me. Why is that Apple?

- Blade Runner 2049

One of the best soundtracks in recent memory. I remember being wowed at the theater just listening to the soundtrack and coupled with the visuals, MY OH MY. By itself, the soundtrack reminds me of the many epic moments of 2049, this helped it become one of the best films of the year, if not the best. Hans Zimmer did it again with some help from Benjamin Wallfisch this time, WOW!

- Almost Human

👌🏻

- Finally a soundtrack that makes the movie work

Movie was super awesome sound track in theatres even better you could watch this movie without dialogue and just listen to the sounds and it would still be epic.

- bummer

Wish Johann did this soundtract

- Best part of the movie...the music.

It's phenomenal! My only complaint is that it's all over the place. No attempt to match the tracks to the films progression. Otherwise it's everything I'd hoped it'd be. And I didn't have to wait 12yrs to have it. Purchased it within ten minutes of returning home after seeing the film. "Sea Wall" , which plays out during the final confrontation, is so masterfully crafted and raises the tension of what's otherwise a pretty standard showdown. Buy it, if only that track alone.

- Snoozer...zzzzzzzzz

This sounds like an ad for Native Instruments and Heavyocity plugins.....BORING. The producer they kicked off the film had a much better score written..

- Good not great.

I loved the movie and the soundtrack was good too BUT I was a little disappointed. The music from the trailer had me so excited for the soundtrack. It seems a little lacking.

- Hmmm

No...

- Best Movie Soundtrack Period

My favorite movie with one of the best soundtracks I’ve ever heard in a movie

- Love it

My favorite is Tears in The Rain

- One of the Best

Just flat out incredible!!!

- Great Soundtrack to a superb film

Another great piece of work by Hans Zimmer. Fits the mood to the film perfectly!!

- Hans zimmer is a work of art.

Masterpiece.

- Beautiful retread

I enjoyed the film and the soundtrack did it's job. The film was brilliant while the soundtrack was somehow a bit dissapointing compared to the impact made by the original Vangellis score.

- Nice review by Darshan

Great opinion piece by Darshan— no bull just personal opinion and it’s appreciated.

- haunting

zimmer has outdone himself with this immersing score

- UNIQUE & Fresh

This soundtrack definitey has it's own tone; love it. Though I can't seem to find the music that was used on the 2049 trailers. Is that somewhere in the soundtrack?

- destroyed the memory

of what was great with cliche pads/strings/bang effects, pop track celina-dionish. A disgrace. No imagination. 2 stars for the recording quality. sad.

- Joi the best ambient music I've ever heard

Blade Runner 2049 OST one of the best movie in the history of electronic music -XXI century. Simply perfection. Sound of future. Titanic work was done.

- Not like the original

It’s not as unique or as memorable as the original blade runner soundtrack by vangelis. In fact it’s really not worth buying, I couldn’t even listen to the whole album.

- Holy Cow

I saw a lot of terrible reviews for this movie. It was he most beautiful movie I have ever seen. Denis Villeneuve has created another masterpiece and he nailed the music yet again. Arrival was amazing and his music created an emotional response for me. This soundtrack is beautiful! Check it out.

- Ethereal and Out of this World

This is one of the most atmospheric and entrancing scores I’ve ever heard! I also love the addition of Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley, because it’s a wonderful juxtaposition of the old to the retro future. Anyone who hates on this because it’s not the originals score, that’s the point. It’s something new with callbacks and hints of the old. And watch the movie with all the music in it and then complain about it. It’s wonderful music on its own, but with the movie, it completely enhances it to a whole new level!

- Awesome

Mr.Hans Has done it again with another masterpiece!!

- Exceptional

This is so much more than a collection of "songs." It's a voluptuous mood bath.

- Leviathan mode

I fw the vibe it’s brilliant. Keep make great music ⛽️

- Joi

Wow.

- Powerful and Bold and Awakens the Spirit!

This soundtrack is absolutely amazing! I can’t stop listening to it and find those haunting moments with the piano scores and then it picks up strong with almost a tribal beat. My favorite is Mesa but Sea Wall is a close second. There’s even some deep chanting pieces that awaken the spirit. Bold and powerful music!

- Nice integration of themes

This soundtrack does a great job of integrating the musical themes found in the original movie’s soundtrack by Vangelis with modern sounds and additional vintage tracks. The original included a vintage track, and it’s nice to see it handled in the same way here. The new themes and sounds work very well for a movie that is set 30 years after the original (and was released 35 years after the original). Instead of an entirely new sound, completely out of step with the older model, we get a nice incorporation of old and new that expresses the distance in time without jarring. Bravo, Zimmer and Co.!

- Movie blows my mind - Ears...not so much

The movie is epic and inventive. The music is simply not. A hard line to walk here for the musical team up. How do you get us back into that world sonically? Most of the tepid reviews are so right on the money. Where are the new themes? Deeper sonic experience that 30 years of talent and tech can deliver. Should this have been handed off to Crystal method? I can only have wished. Instead, minus a few beat tracks, I'd get this for a better relaxed massage.

- Great original soundtrack! But loud Sinatra and Elvis

Not gonna repeat what other reviewers have stated about the marvelous original score to a stupendous movie. And the Elvis and Sinatra tracks *are* a nice addition. But whoever sequenced this album forgot to adjust the volume levels of the Elvis and Sinatra songs, they are way too *loud* compared to the synth score. I couldn't listen to the whole album and had to delete those songs because I don't want to have my mouse over the iTunes volume slider every time they play.
