- Writing

Writing is probably my favorite one if this album

- Great Post GYBR Era Album

In my mind, I split Elton albums into two categories - Goodbye YBR and prior, and post GYBR. This is my favorite post album - such great songs and lyrics that are masterfully arranged. I was never big on this album when it first came out in 1975, but started paying more attention to it a few years later. Definately one for the collection

- The absolute best of Elton John’s

One of my top 5 albums ever

- Best of the Best- Elton John

This album is a complete no-skip album. Every song is unique and has a sound of its own. Tower of Babel and Bitter Fingers are master pieces and my personal favorite songs. Someone Saved My Life Tonight received the most radio play time on the album, but the songs on the albums are all gems in their own right. The song Better off Dead is also a fun song lead by heavy drums and a catchy sound. 5 Stars -No doubt ..I recommend the whole album !!!

- Elton’s Best

This is Elton’s best effort in my opinion. To me this is the peak of Elton and Bernie’s songwriting. This is the only Elton John album where there is not a single song that I don’t like. With the exception of his greatest hits albums, this is his best. As far as I’m concerned there are 3 albums that anyone who wants to hear great Elton must have: “Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy”, “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” and “Don’t Shoot Me, I’m Only the Piano Player”. In that order. I think these three albums show why Elton John was one of the biggest, if not the biggest, rockstar of the 70’s.

- Elton’s best album

I was a teenager when it was released. I was captivated by the music and lyrics. So many songs got lots of radio play in our area in Alabama. My favorites are someone saved my life tonight and Lucy in the sky with diamonds. But I loved them all. I was used to getting one or two great songs on rock and roll albums. It was great being able to play the album all the way through. The songs bring back memories of great times in my youth. A love affair, cruising the town drinking Miller ponys and smoking Mexican dirt weed with my best friends, picking up chicks, drag racing with other boys, bon fires, outdoor keg parties, vacations at PCB Florida company camp grounds on the beach, and other mischief.

- One of my faves

One of the best albums I’ve ever heard. Definitely buy this one!

- Wow!

I'm astounded there hasn't been one review of this album! That being said, I had to write one. I won't attempt to review each song. Suffice to say, if you enjoy Elton's music, this album is a must-have! If you've never really listened to his music, this is a great way to start. Following his and Bernie's early years right up to the release of Empty Sky, Captain is easily Elton's most intimate work. Musically, it's definitely varied, with country, rock, R & B, disco, and classical influences throughout. Lyrically, as I said before, intimate and revealing. The boys bare their souls on this project, and we all are the beneficiaries of their brilliance. So if you've thought of buying this album, but just never have, do yourself a favor... Get it! You absolutely won't regret it.

- Fantastic, Captain!

Great classic album.

Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy Wiki

Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy is the ninth studio album by English musician Elton John, released on 23 May 1975 by DJM Records in the UK and MCA Records in the US. The album is an autobiographical account of the early musical careers of Elton John (Captain Fantastic) and his long-term lyricist Bernie Taupin (the Brown Dirt Cowboy). An instant commercial success, the album was certified gold before its release, and reached No. 1 in its first week of release on the US Billboard 200, the first album to achieve both honours. It sold 1.4 million copies within four days of release, and stayed in the top position in the chart for seven weeks. Though they would all appear on later albums, this was the last album of the 1970s with the original lineup of the Elton John Band (guitarist Davey Johnstone, bassist Dee Murray, and drummer Nigel Olsson). Murray and Olsson, who had formed John's rhythm section since 1970, were fired prior to the recording of the follow-up album Rock of the Westies. Johnstone would remain in the band for that album and the subsequent Rock of the Westies Tour, and John's 1976 double-album Blue Moves, after which he appeared on only one track for A Single Man, for the most part playing with other artists until rejoining John for his 1982 Jump Up! Tour. Until 1983's Too Low for Zero, this was the last album on which Elton John and his classic band played together. In 2003, the album was ranked number 158 on Rolling Stone's list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, maintaining the rating in a 2012 revised list.
