Kanye West - Ye

About Ye by Kanye West Album

ye is Kanye West’s eighth solo studio album. The album discusses topics in Kanye’s life, including mental health, family, and addiction. He also explicitly announces his diagnosis with bipolar disorder through the album’s artwork and a proclamation within the album. The seven-song project was premiered on June 1, 2018, at an exclusive listening party hosted in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where the album was primarily created. This listening party was also live-streamed on WAV Media. At the listening party, comedian Chris Rock announced that the album was simply titled ye, although the title had initially been teased as LOVE EVERYONE. Unbeknownst to fans, Kim Kardashian, Kanye’s wife, had teased the title hours prior to the announcement. In an interview with Big Boy conducted during the Wyoming festivities, Kanye explained his decision to name the album ye: "I believe ‘ye’ is the most commonly used word in the Bible, and, in the Bible, it means ‘you,’ so it’s “I’m you, I’m us, it’s us.” It went from being Kanye, which means the only one, to just ye – just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confused, everything, that I’m just more of a reflection of who we are, just as beings." Kanye also revealed in this interview that after his infamous TMZ interview (in which he stated that he believes slavery was a choice), he completely re-did his album with an entirely new theme. The fate of the original songs is currently unknown. ye is the second album in a five-album series of releases that are entirely produced by Kanye. It was preceded by Pusha-T’s DAYTONA, and succeeded by KIDS SEE GHOSTS (his collaborative album with Kid Cudi), Nas‘ NASIR, and Teyana Taylor’s K.T.S.E. The existence of the album was initially made public on April 19, 2018, when Kanye tweeted the expected release date. On May 15, 2018, Kanye tweeted a video displaying the working tracklists for his upcoming projects, his labeled “Ye.” At the time the video was shot, only two songs had been added to Ye’s album: “Wouldn’t Leave” and “Extacy” (which was later retitled “XTCY” and released on August 11, 2018). The video also displayed “Ghost Town” as a track on Ye and Kid Cudi’s collaborative album KIDS SEE GHOSTS, but it now appears as track 6 on ye. On June 10, 2018, ye became Kanye’s 8th consecutive No. 1 album on the Billboard 200.

- Unique for ye

Ye is an amazing album, despite the fact that it isn’t like other Kanye music. It’s still amazing and I truly recommend listening to it

- If you are living with mental instabilty

Even if you aren’t diagnosed, your mind is not something to brag about but the products of our own mental landscape should be embraced. Kanye speaks back to the voices in your head, live free, live you. Freedom is having nothing to lose Having nothing to lose means understanding your own ephemerality MEMENTO MORI

- Ye isn’t woke, he AWAKE

In the album description the author wrote,“Kanye’s political beliefs may have changed, but…” Stating it’s a negative that Ye has opened his mind and eyes. He along with many others are realizing that living with Christian beliefs & values is NOT a bad thing. Black Americans have historically been a very spiritual culture with a strong unbreakable faith in God, community, and family. If any demographic should identify with the Republican Party, its black Americans. The Republican Party of 2022 more closely resembles the Democrat Party of 30 years ago. Think about what is personally important to you and your family, then take an honest look at each party and see what’s what. Don’t take their word for it and assume the left is the same as it use to be…it’s not. Which ever way any of us lean politically, please remember we are all in this together & together we can do all. Don’t let them use our race, sex, religion, political party, East/West, sports teams, or anything like that divide us anymore. Ye isn't woke, he’s AWAKE. Oh, album is perfect

- What. The. Hell.

The only person who thinks Kanye is a genius is Kanye himself.

- GOATED

best kanye album

- Kanye’s Worst Album Yet!

There is no redeeming quality to this, it’s trash. Kanye should have paid me for buying it.

- Best Kanye Album. Ever

This album gets some hate, but honestly, it’s the most introspective and reflective Ye album. It’s filled with moments of Kanye admitting to himself that he’s changed, for both better and worse. Amazing production and lyricism. Overall, one of my favorite albums ever. Short and sweet

- I love this.

This i love.

- 😇

🙏🏽🙏🏽

- this album changed my life

From songs about confidence & self-empowerment to humility and love, this album was the opposite of a failure; Kanye is a visionary. The ideas on this record are mature, personal, and brutally honest, so it should come as no surprise that it would fail to appease his usual audience, likely now accustomed to lyrics saturated in hedonic themes and selfish ideas. Philosophically, Kanye seems to have out-grown his manic selfishness in favor a philanthropic dream. Despite the opening tracks title, the record ends on an optimistic note and tells a story of a troubled man finding solace in family and his spiritual faith - arguably more transcendent truths than fame or success. Kanye isn’t speaking on popular subjects; he’s speaking honestly, and it’s one of the most refreshing things I’ve heard recently. Sincerely, a new fan - dan

- Solid

Definitely underrated

- Genuine Is That One Word

I don’t know much about this genre of music, overall it’s never appealed to me let alone become my go to. But I gotta say, with every new release of songs, KW seems to be on a trek of self discovery, of exile, beyond the streets, beyond the seas, beyond the trees and beyond the desert, in an effort to find something, discover something, unearth something, personal things. Seemingly, fans and critics are welcome yet not necessary to his purpose. Some might interpret his works and words as those of a self serving egomaniac, his occasional foolish outpourings do support that notion. From the sidelines it’s interesting to watch as he continues to mature. His ego, his fears, fears that are/were the likening of a child, are no longer fully in control. He has the courage to strike forward, diverting away from what is comfortable. A true artist I would say. I very much look forward to more of his projects. Hit or miss, this is his journey. As such, one can find comfort and strength when it seemingly parallels our own journey, or choose to criticize in an exercise of self importance. Keep in mind the effort. If the effort is genuine, there is genuine results. If I only had one word to describe his overall works and specifically this project, genuine is that one word.

- Honestly, one of the most underrated albums from last decade.

I just feel like this man, most of the time, is pouring his heart on these tracks, and it’s beautiful. All Mine though is a banger, a quiet banger, if that’s a thing. Overall: 9/10

- Oooo tough Bitcoin

Ha

- A masterpiece

Kanye’s best album

- Brilliant

Once again Kanye goes deep and chooses ART over commerce.

- This album changed my life

Back before I was super into rap I had listened to a few albums, Luv is rage 2 by lil Uzi and Gemini by Macklemore, but neither of those hit my like this. I was in school one day and I was on Spotify and i searched kanye west and I saw he dropped an album that day. I started listening to the album. I thought about killing you hit me in ways I never thought possible, I never listened to anything like this album and it gets so much hate. The subject matter dealing with his bipolarism and his relationship with Kim West is amazing. This album gets so much hate but it’s such an amazing album.

- Trash

Fake tycoon trying to rap

- Brilliant

Sorry it’s not main stream, Hollywood.

- “The good thoughts are always beside the darkest”

I don’t know if I’m rating this too high or just high enough. On the one hand, it isn’t much of a worthy continuation of THE LIFE OF PABLO so much as it is just a very expensive diary. Yet at the same time, this is Kanye’s most personal yet, dealing with suicide, bipolar disorder, self-acceptance, and wanting to be a better husband and father. Whether you dislike Kanye as a person or not, you can’t deny he’s just dealing with a lot in this point. Still, name one artist that actually makes PARTYNEXTDOOR sound more appealing.

- IDEK

This isn’t even bad, there are some good tracks on this. The people trashing this have no taste in music. They probably listen to Kodak Black, Migos, and 6ix9ine.

- Underrated

Ye has never made a bad album

- Ye! 🙌🏾🔥♊️💯

The album is short but you can tell that every track on the album is meaningful to Ye. Real Kanye fans will love it. I’m personally proud that he went in this direction (being honest with his emotions). I didn’t expect anything less than what he delivered which was fire and pure greatness! My only issue is that there’s not enough tracks. I just love Ye! 💯💯💯💯💯

- This is amazing

I’m not a Kanye West fan at all but this album is incredible really makes you think I bought it not that long ago

Compact yet uplifting slice of Kanye - a brief opening of window into a constantly changing artist. Worth returning to.

- Good 👌

Kanye West-Ye 2018 I Thought About Killing You- A smart song that looks inside Kanye’s head. The first half of the song we hear Kanye talking to himself almost going crazy. Then the second half we get the rapping and it sounds pretty good. Great introduction. 7/10 Yikes- The hook on this song sounded great. The lyrics went deeper into his mind and sounded even better. The flow was brilliant and another great song. 9/10 All Mine- It sounded a bit all over the place to start off with but eventually it started to sound a bit better. The lyrics were kind of simple but it’s an alright song. 5/10 Wouldn’t Leave- This song talks about his love for his wife Kim Kardashian. It was a very deep song that really showed how much Kanye cares for her. PARTYNEXTDOOR did a great job as well giving the song a good feeling. 8/10 No Mistakes- This dug deeper into Kanye’s dark side. The delivery was brilliant and the flow was great. Sounded like a great Kanye West song that deserves to be on this album. 7/10 Ghost Town- By far the best song on the album. It’s incredibly underrated. It was really emotional and Kanye delivers some of his best singing. PARTYNEXTDOOR sounded great as well, this really helped the song get into the tone. The soul sounding instrumental sounded perfect. The best part about this song for me was the 070 shake feature. It sounded great with instrumental and it honestly gave me chills listening to her voice. Amazing song. 10/10 Violent Crimes- Kanye finishes the album off with a track mainly aimed at his daughters. It sounds pretty good and has some clever bars in it. He really finished everything he had to say with this song. 7/10 This album is short but amazing. Kanye hasn’t done stuff like this in a while so it’s great to him touch on some deep subjects in only seven songs. Great album Final Grade: B

- All mine
