I dont think any of us wanna live in a world without Jeff Lynne in it.
Love the songs. Unfortunately, I can't get past the atrocious audio quality. It's over compressed and sounds terrible. I feel bad, because I really want to enjoy this album. But every time I press play, it immediately pales in comparison to other recent music. I deleted the files and re-downloaded them, no luck. I re-purchased it on Amazon to see if it was the encoding on iTunes, not the problem. Jeff is a 71 year old rock star, maybe his hearing isn't great these days. Or maybe he is such a mono-Beatles purist, but this is not up to par! He needs to bring in another producer to help him. You can listen to 5 seconds of any of these songs on decent headphones and it's immediately clear. It robs the audience of appreciation for these great songs. Jeff! Let's go full dynamic range! I'll pay $40 in addition to what I already spent.
It seems like Jeff Lynne is soaring right now. What other artists have been this good for this long? Clapton, Paul Simon⦠Who else? Jeff is writing/producing music here that is every bit as good as his classics. We've lost too many of these guys. I'm so grateful for this music.
I only wish Jeff Lynne has been releasing new music every 2-3 years for the past 30 years!
5 stars for the fifth Beatle!
So much more guitar than a usual for him. Even so, he maintains the ELO āfullā sound I love. Rock on Jeff!
Hopefully, two or three of these tracts will be included in Jeffās next tour.
Just listened to the entire album. For those of you dumping on this while only listening to the title track, go and listen to the rest of it. I like "From Out of Nowhere", but frankly it's the weakest track on the album. The rest of this sounds much like classic '70s ELO and captures that Beatlesque sound that is unmistakably Jeff Lynne. Overall a terrific effort!
Been a fan since 1976. I remember playing Livin' Thing on my 8 Track while driving my 55 Chevy to High School. Man, the memories of ELO have been with me all my life and I am so happy that Jeff is putting out more classic sounds in this age of radio garbage. Thank you Jeff, saw you at the Hollywood Bowl back in 2016, it was awesome. Hopefully more albums to come...!
The title says it all. Such a perfect album of ELO tunes. Does not disappoint. So much ear candy. What a gift. Well done. Just lovely.
AWESOME new Jeff song. Can't wait for the album to be released! PLEASE tour again in 2020. We love you!
Almost brings a tear to my eye
Sounds like classic ELO and every song brings something to the table!
This is another amazing album from Jeff Lynne.
I have rediscovered this album. I bought it when it first came out and listened to it some, but not enough to become overly excited about it. The sound quality wasn't right. I recently decided to give it another try and I actually like this collection of songs better than the previous set on Alone in the Universe (except for a couple standout songs). The sound quality still bothers me, but I like the songs well enough to put up with it. If Jeff ever wants to remix these songs and reissue a new album with better sound, I would gladly pay extra for it because I think the collection of songs here is worth it.
It do be kinda fresh
Jeff is just great at whatever he touches! another well produced ELO Project !
After all these years, Jeff's still got it. Love every new song
Had the Beatles produced just one more album it would have probably sounded like this album.
Iāve been an ELO fan since my pre-teens, still have every āalbumā, now in my 50ās I keep getting disappointed by Jeff Lynne. Ok, we know you can play all the instruments but until you get back to why I started listening to you in the first place, forget it. I miss the multilayered orchestrations of old. Now youāre just another guy strumming a guitar.
The best of the best foreverā¤ļø
It is only One song but very Average I think the metronome is really holding him back I hate The drums. Stand out songs Are losing you and songbird
LEGO Jeff Lynne
Jeff Lynne is without a doubt one of the greatest songwriters of all time and heās been going on strong for forty years, turning in genius orchestrations and beautifully transcendent lyrics. 2019 is the last year Iād expect a song with this feel to be released; it could just as easily have been on time or balance of power. He does keep the same format as when I was a boy, but thatās not a bad thing by any means. I was at the first leg of the first us tour in Oakland and I really hope another tour is coming in 2020!!!
Like Balance of Power, Alone in the Universe, and others, current ELO sounds are still ELO-esq, but for those who grew up with them in the 70s/80s, we tend to miss the rich, string arrangements...still lots of thumpity bumpity sounds of rock but less orchestral. Still better than what today passes for music.
Amazingly clear production. Great harmony and arrangements on all 10 tracks. Pop music isnāt dead. At least not at Jeff Lynneās house! His best album in years.
Jeff Lynne can still write catchy songs with hummable melodies and clever hooks. He's a master producer, as well: layering harmonies in old-fashioned yet timeless ways, and providing lush layers of sound. That being said, the iTunes reviewer was right on target in recognizing something missing in the one-man-band creation here and in the previous Jeff Lynne-as-ELO album. Bands (even those with studio musicians) can often create music that is greater than the sum total of their parts, because of subtle individual contributions the musicians bring. Lynne alone doesn't give his music a chance to breathe or evolve in any ways. We get what we expect, and nothing more. It's a shame he couldn't include former bandmates (some of whom who even toured with him!) to contribute to making a more organic record than he does here (and has done pretty much with exactly the same result of his "solo" (without the name ELO) albums. I like this and will root for its success, but it will not reveal much more upon future listens because of its inorganic creation.
This one is much tighter, upbeat and hooks are better than Alone in the Universe. AITU to me was, though not bad, seemed too dull and slow-tempo to me, and it didn't let me listen to it quite as much as I expected. This one has already bought into me and I am sure this will become my heavy rotater going forward! As a Beatles fan myself, I see Jeff Lynne's new stuffs much more listneble than Paul's late productions.
Yes itās only one song but the one song is so typical ELO The melody is beautiful as are the strings as always . I have no idea what the metronome dude was talking about but I am a drummer for 60 years and every band has itās style . ELO is unique and I for one hope they stay that way
Just saw Jeff Lynneās ELO when he was in Tampa. I was in heaven, listening to those old ELO songs. Hearing that a new album was coming out, I was hesitant, but no more. Excellent. Jeff, keep āem coming.
I have to agree with the previous comments concerning the lack of sonic presence. If you compare it to Alan Parsons new release āThe secretā, it is obvious that these two titan producers, who were always at the top of their studio-game, only one still takes the time to make sure the recording is crystal clear and separation between instruments observed. But hey, Jeff Lynne and Alan Parsons will always bring a smile to my face with any and all of their offerings.
I donāt understand?
Every song is a gem.
Terrific opener. If the rest of the CD is half as good I'd be very pleased. Don't quite get any negatives. Track two release is super. Looking to forward to the complete cd!!! GREAT CD Some amazing tracks.
This wonderful song makes me anxiously await the rest of the album! Iām sure it will NOT disappoint fans!
Great melodies...Jeff Lynne rarely disappoints
I donāt understand the poor sound quality guy. Get a good speaker!
I think this is a beautiful song. The lyrics are eceptionally deep dealing with the sorrow of the world that is so evident right now yet come through with hope and optimism. I love the all the lead guitar bits and the drums are have that vintage mercy beat sound from the 60's. I think it's sad that some hold Jeff up to such ridiculus standards and expect every song to be mr. blue sky. What can I say those folks wouldnt know a good song if they heard one. Every time Jeff releases something it's music to my ears and a reminder that music comes from such a deep spirtual place in all of us. It's unfortunate theres not many "real tunes" like this on Pop radio today. Thank you again Jeff for still releasing great music that brighten up all our days and make all our skies blue.
I love ELO and this is AMAZING!!!
I have listened to the whole album, from top to bottom, twice a day every day since Nov. 1. With every play I have a deeper appreciation for Jeff's musical genius, and what he has accomplished with this gem. There's not a single track I would want to skip over, either. This album is proof that ELO is alive and well!

For not naming this effort as Electric Light Orchestra as it would ruin the past glories of all the performers who were in the band. The last 2 efforts are just Jeff Lynne solo efforts as he performs all instrumentation and vocals. I have followed this band for over 40 years and actually got to see them 2 summers ago, but I gotta say, please stop. Production & vocals are still outstanding, but the overall compositions are bland and weak. The drums, which were terrible on the last album, are actually worse here, the cymbals are so muffled. PLEASE ASK BEV BEVAN TO JOIN THE BAND AGAIN! When I heard that a new album was coming. I was quite excited for the release, but this album has a short shelf life with little replay value. Sorry sbeacha
Jeff Lynn once again delivers the consistent sound that ELO fans will appreciate, like knowing what you'll get when you order up a Big Mac. Some good tracks here, nothing outstanding but nothing either that is a throw away. Better than the last release but not the best in the catalog.
Great collection of new songs with many of them sounding like the traditional ELO and some that are distinctly a new sound for the band. Love the album!!!

Welcome back Jeff, canāt wait for the album , you are a genius , what a fantastic song !!!
This album is just BRILLIANT !!!Title track is already a classic in my view. Jeff Lynne is a musical genius and sounds as good today as he did back in the 70s/80s - maybe even better!
This is a good collection of b-sides, a pretty decent solo album, but itās not an ELO album. Which is a shame, as I grew up with ELO , from 10538 overture through the classics to balance of power. But zoom, alone in the universe and now from out of nowhere all sound the same, thereās no stand out classics. If you listen to on the third day, Eldorado and face the music, the amount of great songs on them are staggering and they are rememberable, unlike his last three, the only one I can remember is when the night comes, which is no ma ma ma belle or poor boy (the greenwood), and thatās without going into a new world record or out of the blue. I really do wish Jeff would stop this travelling willbury tribute and get back to producing proper ELO albums. I really miss them. Come on Jeff, get it sorted.....please
Been an ELO fan since the mid 70s and this is just tripe as was some of his last album. If this is Jeff using his musical talents to push boundaries like he did in the 7os and 80s then give it up. The music is drivel, droaning and uninspired unlike his live gigs. Give us back some punch and melodies Jeff, this isn't good enough and I haven't bought it. Sorry, but I've followed Jeff and ELO all my life, this is not even breaking any new ground.
Another top track from the master song writer bring on the Album.
I love this album, great tracks throughout especially Time of our Life, which is all about the Wembley Stadium show 3 years ago. All throughout you can hear influences from earlier albums, just cannot stop playing it in the car. Jeff Lynne is a genius and surely deserves to be Sir Jeff at some point!
I love love ELO. Saw them in Leeds and stood, sang every word and was a pure childhood dream and utter delight. This album I just donāt like it. I love Jeff but miss the fact that many of his albums were inspired with amazing rhythms, rousing, strong string sections and they still stand up. I play them over and over again. Seems more rock and rolly and less pure ELO. Iām as loyal as the next fan but itās justlack lustre and sounds tired. Soz š
Love the feel and sentiment of Time of our Life but I'm sorry Jeff, some of the lyrics are a bit cringeworthy - and it ends far too abruptly. Still love ya tho'. Always will!
Just got the album , lifelong Jeff fan , this is simply stunning , he is a genius and such a humble man too
Great album loved Elo when growing up,great songwriting as usual from the great Jeff
How does this man do it! Complete master of his craft, more more please, absolutely brilliant!!
Fantastic!!
What a fantastic opening track. One to sing along to and smile. Another top offering from Sir Jeff. Now having listened to the whole album, it is very upbeat and favourite tracks of down came the rain, sci-fi woman and help yourself. Losing you a bit of a dud but rate whole album on a par with a new world record.
Fantastic album Jeff is a pure genius you can see why the Beatles rated him so highly .Buy it you wonāt regret it š.
So glad that new music is coming from this icon of rock and roll.
This track could off New world record or Out of the blue, itās classic lyne and ELO. Hope the rest of the albumās just as good.
Just want to say I wish Jeff would make us one last over the top full On arpeggio strings choralish Backing vocals synthy proper Elo album These songs are pleasant enough But they have more in common with the travelling whilberries than Elo
