Blue is the fourth studio album by Canadian singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell, released on June 22, 1971 by Reprise Records. Written and produced entirely by Mitchell, it was recorded in 1971 at A&M Studios in Hollywood, California. In 1979 Joni Mitchell reflected, "The Blue album, there's hardly a dishonest note in the vocals. At that period of my life, I had no personal defenses. I felt like a cellophane wrapper on a pack of cigarettes. I felt like I had absolutely no secrets from the world and I couldn't pretend in my life to be strong. Or to be happy. But the advantage of it in the music was that there were no defenses there either."

You can hear that she’s coming out of one relationship as she finds love in another, as she tells her story on Blue.💎Especially on the tracks, A Case of You and River. She is an Icon, Legend, and a brilliant artist too. 👩‍🎨 and you can see her Art on some of her most famous album covers. 🖼Don’t miss what’s coming up for Joni on July 2nd, she’s releasing her Reprise albums from 1968-1971 and on October 29, The Joni Mitchell Archives, Vol. 2. Seeing her on stage was a true delight and one of the highlights of my life. ❤️ I wish her well, always🙏🌈

This album is presented as one of the all time greats, but outside of a few songs I find nothing legendary ab it. If this is her best album, then give me Carol King instead

...that back then (the ‘70’s) I never listened to her music (caught snippets of her songs from a commercial or from a radio in a passing car). Now years later I’m watching a Netflix mini-series called ‘AWAY’ Hillary Swank episode 5 ‘Space Dogs’ and at the end a woman’s beautiful voice is singing a beautiful haunting song called ‘RIVER’ and it moved my soul & I couldn’t find out who sang it. I didn’t see it listed in credits. So I went to ITunes & yes...JONI MITCHELL. I will now listen to her album ‘BLUE’

Blue is one of the three primary colours in the RYB colour model (traditional colour theory), as well as in the RGB (additive) colour model. It lies between violet and cyan on the spectrum of visible light. The term blue generally describes colours perceived by humans observing light with a dominant wavelength between approximately 450 and 495 nanometres. Most blues contain a slight mixture of other colours; azure contains some green, while ultramarine contains some violet. The clear daytime sky and the deep sea appear blue because of an optical effect known as Rayleigh scattering. An optical effect called the Tyndall effect explains blue eyes. Distant objects appear more blue because of another optical effect called aerial perspective. Blue has been an important colour in art and decoration since ancient times. The semi-precious stone lapis lazuli was used in ancient Egypt for jewellery and ornament and later, in the Renaissance, to make the pigment ultramarine, the most expensive of all pigments. In the eighth century Chinese artists used cobalt blue to colour fine blue and white porcelain. In the Middle Ages, European artists used it in the windows of cathedrals. Europeans wore clothing coloured with the vegetable dye woad until it was replaced by the finer indigo from America. In the 19th century, synthetic blue dyes and pigments gradually replaced organic dyes and mineral pigments. Dark blue became a common colour for military uniforms and later, in the late 20th century, for business suits. Because blue has commonly been associated with harmony, it was chosen as the colour of the flags of the United Nations and the European Union.In the United States and Europe, blue is the colour that both men and women are most likely to choose as their favourite, with at least one recent survey showing the same across several other countries, including China, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Past surveys in the US and Europe have found that blue is the colour most commonly associated with harmony, confidence, masculinity, knowledge, intelligence, calm, distance, infinity, the imagination, cold, and sadness.
