Ellie Goulding - Brightest Blue

About Brightest Blue by Ellie Goulding Album

Brightest Blue is the fourth studio album by English singer-songwriter Ellie Goulding. It was released on 17 July, 2020 by Polydor Records. It was originally scheduled for 5 June, 2020, but the album's release was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is Goulding's first album since Delirium (2015). Brightest Blue received generally positive reviews from music critics and debuted at number one in the UK, and in the top ten in several other countries. To promote the album, Goulding was set to embark on the Brightest Blue Tour on 28 April, 2021, however, this was pushed back to 5 October, 2021 due to COVID-19 restrictions in the UK. The album was preceded by three singles: Worry About Me (feat. blackbear), Power and Slow Grenade (feat. Lauv). Goulding described the album as having two sides, revealing that the first side would be entirely written by her, while the second is described as being "like an alter ego" and contains the majority of singles released from 2018 to 2020.

- Old Ellie is back baby

I’ve been missing the Halcyon-era Ellie for SO LONG. I’m so so so happy she has found herself again and realized her talent is so far beyond the pop-trash that was delirium (sorry to say it, but it’s true). Glad she’s in a better place now! I’m so proud of her! 💙🥺

- You’re so cool Ellie

You make the best songs this is one of my new favorites. My first favorite though is has to be lights.

- Nice album...Bad Price

This album would be an automatic purchase if it was not for the $19.99 price tag. Should be no more than $10.99

- Shes back! 😍

This definitely gives me halcyon days vibes. LOVE it.

- Love the album and the evolved sound...

It’s definitely a bit of a departure from previous albums, but I love the chill feel of it. I would totally buy the album, but $19.99 is absurd for a 57min long album. The marketing of it being a “double album” is flat out not true....more like a shorter album with a bonus EP added to the end. So...yeah not buying it, so I’ll just stream on Apple Music unless the price comes down to something realistic. 🤷🏼‍♂️

- Too expensive!

I have been an Ellie Goulding fan for many years, but this album is too expensive!

- Slow Grenade

Slow Grenade is a great song!

- 💙 Very Avant Garde 💙

I’ve listened to the whole album and I can see what people mean by the songs on this album are similar to her older songs like from Halycon for example. But this album is different because it is more on a hopeful note along with some new experimental sounds that we haven’t heard her done before. While Ellie Goulding isn’t as big of a pop star as other fellow singers like Ariana Grande, Adele, Beyoncé, etc. who sing with such soprano-like styles, she is authentic and true to herself in her music that which it really shows in this new album. It’s beautifully artistic. And that’s what makes her stand out the most.

- Love!!!

Like this album!!! ❣️❣️❣️

- Quit whispering and actually sing!

Dumb.

- ellie🥰🥰💕💕

my baby i’ve been waiting five years for this album and it’s perfect

- Very Different but Essentially Familiar

Took a couple re-listens to grasp the full idea of the whole album and it worked like a charm. I can sense a bit of the classic Halcyon Days Ellie and the roaring Delirium side of Ellie too. Love this new era and hopefully waiting to hear this live. 💛

- ‘Brightest Blue’ is incredible

Ellie, your album ‘Brightest Blue’ is incredible. I am fascinated by how honest the album is and at the same time, the mystical experience when listening to the album. Your best body of work on your discography.

- Take it or leave it

This is not my favourite era from Ellie, if I’m honest. The album doesn’t do it for me. Close to Me is the only track I love on the entire album. Aside from the sounds and the more hip hop/soul/ballad influences, the album doesn’t justify its hefty price tag. Pretty disappointed. I don’t think I would enjoy this album live, especially if it was being performed without material from her other albums. Sorry Ellie, it’s a no from me.

- YESSSS

This album is beautiful. 5 stars all around. These songs come from the heart. Ellie’s voice is amazing in each song. I love the deeper meaning behind these songs too. I need to see these songs live !!

- A conquering comeback.

I was worried. Ellie has struggled to find footing since Delirium. I was worried that this album was going to be rushed, and lackluster. I’ve never been happier to be proven wrong. Brightest Blue is a triumph in all forms. Ellie’s vocals are stronger than ever. Ellie’s albums are produced with her unique voice in mind, and that’s something I’ve always loved about her music. On Brightest Blue, the lyrics finally come level with her powerful voice, and that’s refreshing. Out of all the tracks, ‘Love I’m Given’ is my favorite. It demonstrates her abilities, and digs deeps. Congratulations, Ellie. 💙🌊💙

- MISSING SONG ON EXPLICIT VERSION

There's one song missing on the explicit version: the last track, "Sixteen". This has to be a listing mistake, because the song appears on the clean version. However, when I contacted Apple Support, they said they can't do anything. So I basically paid the exact same price as the clean (censored) version, but got an incomplete product. How does that make any sense? This is my favorite Ellie Goulding album ever, but I'm going to have to give it a one-star review because this listing mistake is UNFORGIVABLE.

- Refreshing

Pop

- Such Growth

Ellie has come so far and it shows. This is such a professional album that the work is obvious and the two parts of self-acceptance and the big ego part she longs to have is amazing. She has such a voice and this album is incredible.

- Beatiful!!!

This is such an amazing album does not have one bad song on the first side. But EGO is not my fave because of songs like worry about me. But that like the only bad song out of 18 songs so that’s very good!! My faves are new heights, how deep is too deep, woman, bleach, brightest blue, and tides. Definetly recommend.

- Masterpiece

Every song on the album corresponds with each other on this album. One of my favorite parts of the album is the names of the songs, like just simple words, for ex. power, woman, flux, bleach, cyan. If you haven’t listened to the album I highly recommended it. Amazing piece of work and you can tell a lot of thought was put into it.

- Nobody cares

We all still listening to Legends Never Die

- Growing

When An Artist Shows True Growth In Their Music, It Is Just Astounding To Listen To, And Witness The Pure Fruits Of Labor. This Artist Is Consistently Creative, And Has Shown Diligence ThroughOut Her Career❣️ Ellie Goulding Is A Musical Prodigy, Standing Tall, Proud And True... And With A Record Like This, She Has Every Right❣️💖☀️

- Juice WRLD carried

$20 for 18 songs is a scam yeezus why anyone pay that much lol

- Amazing! 💙 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of 5

I am ab huge Ellie Goulding fan and have almost all of her music, This album is amazing and I am obsessed. You can tell these songs are personal and I can feel the emotion. One of my favorites is Brightest Blue, however they are all amazing.

- Brightest Blue

Ellie is back! This record is incredible! Every song is just so unique but still stays true to who Ellie is now and still incorporating things from past albums. So happy with this album! Definitely my top 5 of the year so far!

- Ellie Is BACK

Nothing but amazingness all around. Love the breakup of BB and EG.0.

- All tracks labeled the same.

Purchased, the first 13 tracks were all labeled Brightest Blue. Deleted, redownloaded, same issue. Finally just returned it. Bonus tracks all labeled as EG.O as well.

- Lights out

This album sounds like the soundtrack to the Exorcist. The manipulation of her vocals and the choir, lol. I have always loved her but I should have the donated the $20.00 to the church.

- Yes Ellie!

This is my favorite album by her to date. Flux and Bleach are my favorites!

- Brightest Blue | Review

Brightest Blue Start (with serpentwithfeet): A fantastic opener. Her voice is majestic, and the song feels nowhere close to 5 minutes. serpentwithfeet’s part feels somewhat unneeded. Ellie could’ve carried this song by herself. Otherwise, the lyrics, production, and her vocals are all present and fantastic. Power: A fun 80’s throwback. Once again, the production and her vocals are very strong. Such an ear worm, this song is. Always stuck in my head. Glad it came out as a single before the album’s release, because it gave a good impression of what the album is. How Deep Is Too Deep: A production heavy, bass heavy masterpiece. This is in my top 3 of Brightest Blue tracks, at number 2. It’s mesmerizing. I have almost no clue what the song is about, but I don’t need to. It’s just that good. Cyan: An interlude worth listening to. The message is good. The production is good. Those backing vocals through the vocoder is so special, and makes the whole interlude what it is. Love I’m Given: A fantastic single, but not what I listen to the album for. It shows off her vocals, and gives a good representation of the album as a whole. A song Ellie says “wrote itself” has great lyrics and a great message. However, it is an occasional skip, as I love the deep cuts in the album more than the radio-oriented tracks. New Heights: A song that left me wanting more. I love the stripped back essence, and the lyrics are soft and easy-going. However, the chorus leaves something to be desired. It feels empty, and doesn’t show off her vocals the way I feel it could’ve. This is the most lackluster track off of the Brightest Blue album, but not EG.0 as well. Ode to Myself: A gorgeous, beautiful, amazing interlude. Why this isn’t a full track, I don’t know. This should’ve replaced New Heights. This is one minute and fifty-one seconds of bliss. Woman: A power anthem. A perfect power anthem. The way the chorus progresses. The violins. The... everything about this song. It is perfect. Still, it is not on my top 3. That is saved for some other tracks. Tides: A welcoming switch-up in the album. Surprisingly, this was my least favorite on my initial listen. Now, it’s in my top 3. Probably number three. But still up there. It’s so innocent and freeing! Just a great, car ride kind of song. Wine Drunk: An interlude. The best interlude on this album. The way Ellie uses the vocoder is so spectacular. The lyrics are so sad, so grieving, but yet, they seem to be covered up by the vocoder. Like they are supposed to be covered for a certain reason. In any case, it’s a fantastic interlude. Plus, it leads into my favorite track on the album. Bleach: A perfect song. This song is perfect. The best song on the album. The production, the lyrics, her voice, it’s all perfect. Do I need to say anymore? Flux: A ballad that needs no introduction. The first taste of Brightest Blue. Once it was in the album, everything made sense. It all clicked. I wish it was somewhat more dynamic, but her vocals more than make up for its flaws. Brightest Blue: A title track that leaves me disappointed. I never enjoy songs with a choir, or backing vocals that aren’t of the artist. I had the same issue with “We Can’t Move to This” on Delirium. However, the hook/pre-chorus is impressive. The way she says it is fabulous. I’ll listen to it, but it is a frequent skip. EG.0 Overture: An introduction to EG.0 that feels a little unnecessary. It does tie in the instrumentals on the two sides of the album, with the violins and the more pop-influenced tracks on EG.0, but, once again, it has a choir in the back, with no presence of Ellie whatsoever. It’s alright. Worry About Me (with blackbear): A dry pop song. It seems Polydor Records wanted Ellie to get a spotlight in the true pop industry, but didn’t succeed. Anyways, this song was made. The chorus is bland, and blackbear’s appearance is nothing special. It follows the formula for a traditional pop song, and the production is lackluster. Slow Grenade (with Lauv): A better... everything... version of Worry About Me. It’s quite catchy, the song is dynamic, and the production is top quality. It seems like care was put into this song, whereas Worry About Me was simply slapped around until it was released. Lauv was a great addition, and their voices went together very well. Close To Me (with Diplo and Swae Lee): A great song if Swae Lee didn’t ever put his name on it. It’s a great pop song, and Diplo definitely did his thing with this song. Ellie worked really well with Diplo, it seems, because they made a great song. However, Swae Lee’s part can go into the trash. It’s so not good. Why did he have to be a part of this song? Still, it’s a good song. Hate Me (with Juice WRLD): A best on the EG.0 side of this album. This song is great as a whole. The production is deep and punchy, and Ellie and Juice WRLD worked great together. I’m glad he had a long feature (in today’s world) on this song. It’s really a fantastic song, and the best on EG.0. Sixteen: An alright song. Although it was not released on the original mix of Brightest Blue, it was later added, which it could’ve done without. Another somewhat failed attempt by Polydor Records. Overall Review: Brightest Blue is a solid piece of work. I don’t think anything can be better than Halcyon, but I feel this is the closest we will get. It has many high points, and only a few low ones. I wish EG.0 wasn’t on the actual album, and maybe released as an EP on the side, because it somewhat brings down the album as a whole. However, counting only Brightest Blue, it’s definitely a 4/5. It’s strong. EG.0 is alright. Hate Me is a great song, and Slow Grenade is as well. All the others are just alright. I am overall impressed with Brightest Blue.

I love every song on this album. I love how all the songs are so different and unique in their own way, each song is a masterpiece. I recommend tracks 3,13 and 16.

- Love it

!!

- Brightest Blue

A solid pop album in 2020. Power and Love I’m Given go OFF.

- way overpriced...

for a very uneven album.

- Elevator Music for Millennials

Remember when she made “Love Me Like You Do?” We all should’ve realized she was a one trick pony when nothing else catchy came out after or before that.

- Wow!

This is a great album! It’s put together so well and is lyrically beautiful 😁 great job Ellie!

- Excellence

This is the follow up to Halcyon everyone needed. Absolutely phenomenal.

- She’s back!!

It feels so good to hear the Ellie Goulding I grew up with

- X

Very nice

- Keep rising !

Ellie is Golden ⭐️🔥

- Download failure

Album is beyond perfect. However, when I bought and downloaded it, all the songs were titles as the album name. A glitch I assume.

- Looooove

Once again Ellie makes an amazing album with songs that enrich and hit your soul.

- She’s back

Great Album, she really shows her singing capabilities... been a fan since day 1 🥰

- Ellie has done it again!

Once more Ellie Goulding has amazed the world with her beautiful lyrics, and her absolutely stunning voice! Brightest Blue is an album that is guaranteed to become a world wide hit. I say that because what Ellie does, ( like a lot of modern singers ) is she takes her real life experiences and turns them into this beautiful and unique melody for the world to hear! I absolutely and truly praise Ellie Goulding for being a strong and powerful woman and having the courage to sing about her mishaps, her feelings, her successes. We need more people like Ellie... and I say that with all the love in my heart. Keep being yourself Ellie!💙

- EG4 is perfect.

5 years, that’s how long we’ve waited and if you ask any true EG fan they’ll tell you it was worth it. This album is perfect from start to finish, taking you on a journey you never expected and showing the truest colors of our favorite human. EG4 is and will always be worth the wait, you can’t rush perfection 💙

- Amazing, exciting and tear-jerking.

Brightest Blue is a triumph in Ellie Goulding’s musicianship that extends beyond EG.0 droplets and explores Halcyon-esque production, lyrics and vocal presentation. However, it is your decision to choose whether this is beneath, on-par with or surpasses Halcyon.

- 🔥🔥🔥

Well written, crafted and performed pop.
