Iron Maiden - Senjutsu

About Senjutsu by Iron Maiden Album

Iron Maiden released their 17th Studio album Senjutsu in 2021. It was recorded at Guillaume Tell Studio in early 2019. Senjutsu (Japanese: 戦術, loosely translated as "tactics and strategy") is the seventeenth studio album by British heavy metal band Iron Maiden, released on 3 September 2021. Senjutsu is the band's first studio album in nearly six years, following The Book of Souls (2015), marking the longest gap between two Iron Maiden studio albums. This is also their second double album, and their first studio album since Powerslave (1984) to have no songwriting contributions from guitarist Dave Murray in any way, as well as the first since Virtual XI (1998) to feature multiple songs written by bassist Steve Harris alone. The name of the album is rendered on the right side of the cover art by the actual vertical Japanese spelling of "senjutsu" (戦術), and on the left side by a font reminiscent of Japanese characters. Critical reception: At Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from professional publications, the album has an average score of 86 based on 14 reviews, indicating "universal acclaim". Wall of Sound scored the album 9/10, calling it an "epic and triumphant return for the lads... better balanced ... with some interesting songwriting". Senjutsu is one of Iron Maiden's most successful albums, chart-wise, to date peaking at number one in numerous countries such as Belgium, Finland, Germany, Italy, Scotland, Sweden and Switzerland, and marked their first album not to peak that position in the UK charts since A Matter of Life and Death (2006); it did, however, top the UK Rock & Metal Singles and Albums Charts. The album also gave the band its highest chart position in the US at number three. Artwork: The album Senjutsu marks the second use of the band's original logotype (with the extended letters R, M and N) on a studio album cover since The X Factor (1995), the previous one being for The Book of Souls (2015). The album cover by Mark Wilkinson presents Eddie dressed up as a samurai and holding a katana. Tracks: CD 1 01 - Senjutsu (8:20) (Smith/Harris) 02 - Stratego (4:59) (Gers/Harris)03 - The Writing On The Wall (6:13) (Smith/Dickinson) 04 - Lost In A Lost World (9:31) (Harris)05- Days Of Future Past (4:03) (Smith/Dickinson)06 - The Time Machine (7:09) (Gers/Harris) CD 2 07 - Darkest Hour (7:20) (Smith/Dickinson)08 - Death Of The Celts (10:20) (Harris) 09 - The Parchment (12:39) (Harris)10 - Hell On Earth (11:19) (Harris)

- Sorry

Sorry chaps, I’m not paying $12.99.

- Iron Maiden

Iron Maiden is so good one of the best I love them the new album is cool to Iron Maiden is very good 5 star rating or 50 star rating

- GREAT ALBUM

I’ve listened to this album both via headphones and on a stereo system and either way, it is an absolute winner. Using a good pair of headphones will blow you away because this is a complex album with a ton of layered sounds. The Three Amigos (Dave Murray, Janick Gers and Adrian Smith) take turns with some truly amazing guitar solos and this album is true evidence of how a band with 3 lead guitarists can co-exist and flourish like no other. True Maiden fans will be able for the most part to tell which guitarist is playing which solo. All I can say is just indulge and enjoy. Nicko McBrain’s drumming is off the charts great! The beats that his right foot alone is playing will put smile after smile on your face, and coupled with Steve Harris’ signature bass sound, this is a rhythm section unlike any other in the hard rock/metal genre. Although the use of keyboards is more on this album than on any other recent Maiden album, the keys are softly in the background and really do add to the overall sonic landscape. This album may take a few listens before you realize that it is a great metal album but it is time well worth invested. Maiden fans can only grow to love this one over time. It is one of Maiden’s best and Bruce Dickinson’s vocals, as usual, carry the torch. Don’t miss out on this one! “The Writing On The Wall”, “Days of Future Past”, “Darkest Hour” and “The Parchment” are my favorites but make no mistake there is no filler on this album. Thanks guys. Up The Irons!

- Maiden firing on all cylinders!

Iron Maiden have weaved together an album full of many artistic pieces. From the slow beautiful songs showcasing the classical guitar to the all out rockers reminiscent of the Maiden of the 80’s. Bruce’s voice is somehow just as strong as it has ever been. Kevin Shirley’s production is spot on combining all the different elements into one beautiful work of art. You really do need to sit down and give the album your attention, preferably with headphones. Iron Maiden might have made their best album ever.

- Proof of Steve Harris being a legend

Iron Maiden never disappoints! Definitelty in my Top 5 IM albums

- Tired

Unfortunately they all sound tired from the long history they have. Time to ride off into the sunset and Rest In Peace. It’s time…….

- Another Epic Preference

These guys continue to dominate the rock and roll world, love this album

- KIlling me Steve Harris

I like the new album, but that terrible keyboard sound effect stops the album from being great. Way over used throughout the album, and the sound he chose for it doesn't go with the songs. It is the same "sound/effect" in all the songs. It makes it harder to understand the lyrics too. If they redid this with the keyboard sound effect completely gone, or at least used it minimally then it'd be so much better.

- its great so great thans maiden yoye best

rock on iron maiden 5 stars all the way for you guys rock out hard man thanks

- One of Maiden’s Best

I’ve listened to the full album every day since I downloaded it here. It’s slowly growing on me and right now it’s up there with The Number of the Beast, Powerslave. Seventh Son and Somewhere in Time. Death of the Celts put chills on me. Steve Harris outdid himself writing that song.

- Excellent album

Unmistakably Maiden, still got it and still producing great songs and epics!

- Goosebumps

F yah!

- Maiden is Back

This album is Great

- Fantastic

I really liked this album. Great songs. Iron Maiden still has great music.

- Performance & production has gone pretty bad.

Don’t know if it’s COVID or age or what. But it’s doesn’t sound to professional as Iron Maiden.

- Great album

Have been listening on repeat 🤘🏼

- Don’t right 👀👎

I paid 13.99 the paid is 8.47 why

- Iron Maiden

The songs just get too long and drawn out. Miss the days when it was just a few minutes back in the early 80’s.

- Dull, boring ….

…..every song is just way too long. It was cool years ago on Powerslave but, damn…..it doesn’t need to be every single one.

- Why the price down by Robert

Music a 10 why price 7.99 now

- Disappointed

The songwriting is sub par. The songs go on way too long. Ever heard that about Maiden before? Three guitarist but not one of the guitars are clear. Vocals are not good. Production is probably ok for AM radio. Look, I am a Maiden fan from the beginning. They haven’t put out a decent album since Matter Life and Death. The last 20 years of this band have been mediocre at best. So much better metal out there. If the name was different, this would be in the bargain bin already. Do not buy.

- Best since..

Somewhere in Time. I would give this 7.9 out of 10. Very good music. Up the Irons!

- I can't turn it off!

I have been a fan for over 25 years and they never disappoint me. Well maybe once or twice but this album is one of their best work.

- Welcome back

Waiting for touring this album.

- Great songs…

Terrible production. Kevin Shirley needs to go.

- I like it

Production isn’t as sharp as most of their stuff. But it’s new FN Maiden!

- Same sound from the last 15 years

Seems like another rehash of the last few albums, which kind of all sound the same. Better than a lot that is out there though.

- Excellent Album but not old Maiden.

At first listen, I didn’t like it. I found it boring and too long. After a few listens, it’s growing on me. It’s more progress rock than metal, which isn’t what I wanted it to be, but on its own, it’s excellent. Just don’t compare it to past albums. Give it a chance.

- Senjistu

Best Iron Maiden album ever. No band has ever released their best album this late in their career

- New Record! Boring?

Maiden are awesome, no doubt. However, this record is stacked with songs that seem pretentiously long just to be long, with not enough great stuff to occupy the time. Hey, they can do what they want and I'll always buy it, because even when it isn't their best it's still Maiden. They may have accomplished what they're going for, maybe a more progressive lean, but this is hardly progressive, just stretched out rhythms. I'm on my third listen, and besides a couple stand out tracks I'll go back to and some notable guitar solos, I'm not loving it.

- Bass heavy and sound

Long time fan but not happy with this.

- Numbers with words on reviews?

Dumb question maybe but what are these numbers in reviews all the time??? #34 #39?

- Iron Maiden what happened?

This album was sadly draggy, slow and no life in it. I’ve listened and loved Iron Maiden from the beginning. This in my opinion is their worst album ever, I bought it, listened to it and deleted it. They have 3 awesome guitarists why aren’t they doing double leads? 3 different guitar solos in a song? Every since they have had three guitarists, on their new albums, it’s not as good as you think it would be. Use everything towards your strengths and advantage Iron Maiden.

- Yesterday should be tomorrow

I’ll admit, I never picked up a Maiden album in all my years growing up. Rock was more mainstream and the internet was very primitive compared to what we have today. Quality still mattered. Real producers produced real music and the artists had to find more than just their voices, instruments and a few days. Today’s music is terrible. It just is. So acts like Iron Maiden are at least trying to keep a quality fire going. Anyway, I don’t know if quality and real melodic masterpieces will ever return. But this album has today’s country pop and other acts beaten by a long shot.

- PrePurchased songs not on album

I purchased Writing on the Wall pre release, Now that I purchased Senjutsu, it is omitting Writing on the Wall on the Album, but it shows on my Itunes as a single. Also, it is showing that I have to purchase Writing on the Wall to complete the album.

- Eq this one

Very enjoyable once I found the right eq settings. Production was very flat, no dynamics. There are some very good songs on this album.

- Iam not sure either😍.

I don not know yet😳.

- Excellent Maiden

I love this album. Every time I listen to it, it gets better.I noticed that many people complained about the length of the songs and album. This is one of the reasons I love it. I want to be immersed in an album. I don’t really like short, choppy songs that don’t relate to each other. The album feels like a complete narrative. Each song building on the previous. It allows you to become intimate with and almost drown in it. Been listening to it for a month straight. Put it on and paint. These are the same things I love about Seventh Son. A metal opera♥️ I highly recommend.

- Good

The album is good in spots, long in spots and slow in spots. It is certainly not the greatness of their 80s albums, nor does it seem meant to be. Unfortunately, it is also does not match the greatness of their last three albums. The first three songs are good. Lost in a Lost World sounds like Brave New World. The next song attempts to speed things up but never seems to break through. The long songs in the second half play lots of familiar riffs, march on but don’t give me that excitement. Overall good album, but was hoping for more catchy hooks great courses and a more rock anthem feel.

- Snap

Ok u snapped drake

- Dull

I'm sure this could've been a better than average offering BUT I can't get past how horrible the sound is!!! What has happened??? This sounds like an early '80's recording. The sound is dull and muddy NOT crisp and clear as it should be! Are the production managers of this deaf and did they actually listen to the final product????? They should've learned a lession from Metallica when they put out Death Magnetic and the drums sounded like somone beating on metal trash can lids....unlistenable!!!

- Iron Maiden: Always Relevant

You guys have still got it: That spark of knowledge which never dies. Your contribution to the human race will live on as long as the race does.

- Great Album

Sounds awesome they are still rocking

- Great Album.

🤘🤘💯💯🎸🎸🔥🔥

- New to Iron Maiden

I’ve listened to their hit songs, but never a full album. I’m kind of shocked how good this is. I can’t stop listening to it. Now I need to go back and listen to all their albums.

- Masterpiece?

How can people call this a masterpiece? Lol. It’s ok. But masterpiece? Come on folks. Fans are so predictable. Anything new is awesome. Let’s be objective. I love Maiden. Playing is great but song writing here is average not great.

- Infectious

Great effort, grows on you like sporotrichosis.

- Long long long

I remember when 4 minutes was long for a maiden song. Now it’s their shortest one.. I’m sure if your a post 1985 maiden fan , this is great stuff..for th ins that thought they might go back to their roots. Nope

- I like it.

Great Album. Everything I would want from a Maiden album. They still got the light

- Production

The reviews about the production are accurate. Sound like they are in a shoe box. It’s embarrassing coming from a established band like this. Maybe they are too old to figure out the new recording technology? My dad has trouble with his cell phone.
