I often see a fantastic album brought down to 2 1/2 stars, simply because certain pop-culture songs cannot be purchased without buying the entire album. This is quite unfair. Many listeners don't realize the time and effort the that composer took to put together the entire score for the movie. There are very few, if not hardly any women score/soundtrack composers out there, and I feel it is wonderful that Rachel Portman has given us a plethora of beautiful compostions, which set both the tone of the movie appropriately as well as give rise to seperate imaginations when listened to alone. Rachel Portman is a spectacular composer and I give this album five stars with or without being able to download the other musicians' works. I would highly recommend it to others if they are interested in listening to beautiful music that is not overwhelming with flying bells and whistles that most scores force upon us nowadays. Her music is simple and lovely. It is harmonious and refreshing. Thank you, Rachel Portman, for this wonderful movie score!

To all the reviewers who are complaining about "This Never Happened Before" not being a Single: It is a Single. Search for "This Never Happened Before" in the iTunes search box & it'll be one of the first songs on the list. . . as a single for 0.99. If you are really picky, once you've bought it you can even change the album art.

I love this movie and this single. It can be bought from ITunes under Sir Paul McCartney under his albums, you don't have to buy this whole album to get this one song! Just takes a little research!

It's available for purchase as a single if you search under Paul McCartney's album "Chaos and Creation" which is a good album in itself. Why you can't purchase it separately on this soundtrack? I have no idea.

To everyone complaining about the Paul McCartney song: Search "Paul McCartney" in the iTunes store, and buy the the song (by itself) from the Chaos & Creation in the Backyard album. This solution will likely work for all of the other individual artists' tunes if you are so inclined. Problem solved.

I enjoyed the movie. Ms. Portman did a great job on the soundtrack. I would love to purchase the song recorded by The Clientele. Another great song to add to a collection.

I thought maybe you can make the most of your money when you buy an I Pod, but not exactly when they won't even let you buy one freckin' song that is good off of a soundtrack. You mind as well just illegally download the song that you want since i tunes just wants your money, not saying that i do though. But it just isn't fair if you don't want the whole soundtrack. I wish they would of at least put out a single of "This Never Happened Before".

rachel portman knows how to perfectly paint a scene with score. The movie itself may be the typified chick flick, but somehow, paired with her music, she manages to stir up some emotion and draw the viewer into the story. Another good (if not perfect) example of her work can be found in the soundtrack from Only You. Also, if you're looking to find the planting a tree music, it's Brad Mehldau's "When it Rains" off his Largo album.

All you had to do was put the song title in the search box and you'd know iTunes offers it on PM's Chaos and Creation in the Backyard album!

If you want "This Never Happened Before" then you go to Paul McCartney's Chaos and Creation album and buy it there as a single. It's no big deal. If you do a search for the song it comes up as a single. The other songs are available too. For example, Carole King's "It's Too Late" is available on her classic Tapestry album. This album is beautiful. Rachel Portman's score is beautiful.

Cmon people, McCartney's album "Chaos and Creation in the Backyard" is available on the store with that song available by itself. Stop your whining.

The Original Music Score for Lake House is one of the most breathtakingly beautiful scores by Rachel Portman that I've yet to hear. I also love her original music scores for the movies Emma (starring Gwyneth Paltrow) and Chocolat, but I love the Lake House score even more. Every track by Portman is absolutely gorgeous -- well worth purchasing the whole album.

I have never seen the movie, but am a huge McCartney fan. I have "This Never Happened Before" from his Chao and Creation in the Backyard album from iTunes Plus. You can download "This Never Happened Before" for $1 there!! If you haven't accessed iTunes Plus, then you wouldn't have seen the song listed that way. I encourage you to download more of his songs, of course!

Type in This Never Happened to Me Before, and you will find it on another album of Paul's... Chaos and Creation in the Backyard and you'll be able to get the single.... you can do this with most songs, (all except Elvis Costello's cut off of De-Lovely)...... be inventive....

Awsome movie, I loves it sooo much and theending where she said just a few little lines and then kisses her! What a romantic thing. I mean it seems like he's really overwhelmed. I know I was. I can't believe though that they played "never happened before" for the credits... I mean it's such a great song that I'm suprised they put it there instead of somewhere else in the movie. it's such a great song and a very touching song! All in all I loved the soundtrack and movie, I will by the whole album but I do agree with everyone that WE should be able to buy it as a single!!!!

I've noticed that a lot of people think that Paul McCartney's song "This Never Happened Before" should be sold on its own (so that you don't have to buy the whole album for just one song), so I thought I'd point out that the same song IS sold separately - if you type in the name of the song or the name of the artist, you can buy "This Never Happened Before." It's still the same song, and the only difference is in the album artwork and the name of the album. Hope this helps!

I bought this album because I fell in love with The Lake House. I really wanted to listen to the instrumentals in the background while I was drafting, not so much to sing along to the songs. But after listening to it a couple of times I think my favorite songs with lyrics are "Make You Mine" and "Ant Farm". As far as the instrumental music goes, this album creates a nice mood for relaxing. It is mostly slow and calm but upbeat. I guess "whimsical" might be the right word? Rachel Portman really tells the story of this movie through the music. I don't think I ever noticed that before I listened to just the album. One of my favorite pieces is "Pawprints". Overall, a good addition to my music collection. Well worth the purchase, even if you think you're only interested in one or two songs.

This movie is one of my favorites. It's just simply amazing how the right chemistry can bring two actors together. Mr. Reeves and Mrs. Bullock give such a beautiful performance. They are parred together so well in other movies, that is seems a given they would get married. Oh well. The stars seem to line up just right when they see each other for the first time in the movie. I love Paul as much as you guys do, and if you want to get that song, just simply buy his album "Chaos and Creation in the backyard". Rock on Paul.

Not to rain on your complain parade, but if you try typing in "This Never Happened Before" on the little search window at the top on the screen, you'll find that you CAN buy it seperate; it will just have different album artwork. If that bothers you, change the album name and cut and paste the album artwork off Google Images. Problem solving, ladies & gentlemen.

I have read the reviews from 2006 and now it is March 11, 2016 and nothing has changed. You still don't sell the songs individually and you make people buy the entire album. I bought the album because I have the money but a lot of people don't have extra money to waste on songs they don't like. I don't think Apple needs money and I am sure Paul doesn't either. It has been 10 years and you still haven't changed your policy with this album.

I agreed and am adding my voice of objection that we can't purchase This Never Happened seperately. I won't spend the 9.99 on the entire album for one song. If Itunes thought they could sell more albums by doing it this way they are wrong. Please reconsider this form of forced purcase...not good at all!

All you have to do is search the song title, for all of the people frustrated that it's not available separately on The Lake House soundtrack. Yep, it's frustrating when a song is "album only" but sometimes that's the deal the songwriter/copyright owner makes for the use of a song in a soundtrack so if it's a hit it drives sales of the songwriter's own work, like Paul McCartney. It isn't necessarily a dastardly plot by Apple and iTunes. Think outside the soundtrack!
