I feel envy and sorrow for those who can't relate to this album, it's pure poetry. Mother I sober gives me chills, a breath of fresh air and a level of vulnerability that few are willing to go. So many parallels to my own life and this album that it's more than just validation, it feels very much like redemption. Thank you Kendrick you may not be my savior but your words help me save myself.

The Lyrics are phenomenal , the production is 🔥🔥 🔥🔥(while stepping in a new direction) the subject matter is deep (He highlights a lot of things that aren’t often addressed). Overall it’s a masterpiece. To those who don’t like it, I respect your opinions however, if you only wanted (bangers, songs about money, drugs, violence etc), you should check yourself. There’s way more to music & life than that. The album is definitely worth checking out, it gets better with each listen 🐐🔥🔥🔥🔥

Some of these reviews are blowing my mind…you can’t expect everyone’s newest album to top all of their previous albums, that’s ridiculous. The truth is that Kendrick is by far one of the top if not the top rapper of this time and it would be extremely hard for him to top all his previous work with each new release. It just proves the point when people are saying “it’s bad” compared to his older albums. BTW my favorites from this album are Savior, Mr Morale, N95, and Rich Spirit - with savior being one of my favorite songs from him of all time.

Amazing album to close out a phenomenal run at TDE. These haters in the comment wanted those fake microwave albums where you put out singles for 2 years and throw them on a project and call it an album. This is a classic album. People pallet is so messed up they can’t appreciate lyrics and A1 product. Attention is so short they couldn’t follow the story and relate. Ppl calling this album trash think Carti and Uzi are the greatest thing ever. Stop paying these clowns attention. They just want a hard beat and screeching and mumbling. Bunch of little white kids who can’t relate or understand what this reality he’s speaking. Also he’s not telling them to go do drugs or kill people so these dumb kids automatically are turned off. Not Kendrick’s best album but its 🔥 and better than a lot of these rapper still. I don’t care about the numbers, it passed the ear test. Savior, N95, Die Hard, Father Time, Mr Morale and worldwide steppers are my favorites but I still spin the album as whole. Following the story makes the songs better.

After a few listenings to this album, I realized my first impression was wrong. Definitely a classic!

Title says it all, not a single track that makes me feel anything. What a let down.

Arguably AoTY, most definitely the most dynamic and LYRICALLY PROFOUND hip hop project thus far this year. But, I will say, with this being Kendrick’s last project under Top Dawg Entertainment I definitely noticed the complete lack of TDE collaboration or feature.

I thought Kendrick was different, that’s why he stood out amongst the other rappers when I first listen to him. But this album has no creativity at all. He can do better then this.

Many have tried to pull off what this album accomplished. Somehow Kendrick was able to blend a combination of public enemy, NWA, OutKast, A tribe called quest, 2pac and God in every song. If you don’t understand this album you should be thankful that you never experienced humble, common Black America. Masterpiece!

This album is what was needed! Listen to his words! Listen to what he is trying to change for the better! This album is real world issues and issues within himself! I love every song track! I’m so tired of these bubble gum rappers! We have so many issues in the world and Kendrick scratched some of the main issues. Thank you Kendrick for this masterful album!

Just terrible

Okay, I'll say it: the emperor has no clothes. Not anymore. Loved Lamar's stuff up until now. But this is awful. For an example of how far he's fallen, just listen to the clip of "We Cry Together." It's just four minutes of two people hurling grotesque insults at each other. They spend a big chunk of the song taking turns screaming "F*** you!" Gimme a break. This is a terrible record.

Y’all be hating on this album but y’all be missing the point 💯 this album came from his heart and experience in his life. He didn’t make this album to be a great he just wanted you to listen to his story and message 💯

Unparalleled musicianship & lyricism - this may be K dot’s magnum opus. On a level all his own.

This album is what Kendrick wanted it to be. And that’s a overall smooth and different sounds then what we were use to from his previous albums. It’s crazy we critiquing this man and not one of else who made a review has done what he did or can still do. He is a artist every artist doesn’t remain the same on the sound of what they putting out. Just learn to listen to what he is actually talking and rapping about.

I can’t stand his voice. He has such an irritable voice that I can’t stand listening to. I don’t mean his lyrics or rhymes , I actually mean his vocal cords.

I make my judgement on entertainment value and this album comes up extremely short in entertainment value. Beats are awful, no bangers and just very odd material. Very very very disappointed in this project.

Even at first listen, the lyrical superiority of this body of work leaves most artists of any genre way behind... The well thought out and complex rhymes schemes, the wide range of beats selections, double and triple entendres and the social commentary without sounding preachy, tackling important issues, makes of this simply the best album in years across musical genres and without a doubt making Hip Hop an impressive artform.

After 1st listen I wasn't crazy about it. By the 3rd listen, I loved it. Nice work Mr Lamar.

this album is beautiful. an absolute masterpiece. every damn time you listen you learn or relate to something new, its thought provoking and tells so many stories its amazing. i will be listening to this and nothing but this on repeat for weeks. we needed this album. 100% surpasses 5 stars.

His most personal and experimental album to date. Kendrick Lamar comes back to give us another reason why he's considered at the top of his field. With songs like "United in Grief", "Auntie Diaries", and "Mother I Sober" these songs are incredibly theraputic and gems to whats already a legendary discography. I feel alot of loose ends found thier conclusion on this album. From Kendricks days in compton, his woes from TPAB, to his self doubt in DAMN. Mr Morale & The Big Steppers sees a new Kendrick who has grown, and learned to accept his past and work towards a better future. With a mesh of stage music, and cinematic sound this album is truly a master peice.

Over half the songs have absolutely no replay value and the odd few that do are because of features. This whole album makes it seem like Kendrick has given up. The bars are lacklustre and the delivery is boring. Not worth a buy, not even worth a listen.

A vulnerability very few artists, let alone rappers, have been able to convey in such a way lyrically. A breath of fresh air given the majority of rap that has been released recently. Over-hated for it’s sensitive and experimental variety 😒 disappointing.
