This record is a great snapshot of Sco as he's leaving his boppish "straight jazz" roots and exploring a more electric/fusion/funk sound he eventually perfected on the phenomenal Pick Hits Live CD. Daryl Jones & Omar Hakim are totally in-the-pocket here and function as one mighty rhythm machine. Check out the tightness of the bassline in Techno and the solid groove of Protocol. My only complaint is the dated production, but don't let that deter you. If you like jazz guitar, or you're a guitarist, you need to buy this album. Then, go buy Blue Matter.... then, get Pick Hits Live!

First, let me say that "Still Warm" means a lot to me personally, so this review is going to reflect that. I discovered this album entirely by accident shortly after it was released. It somehow turned up in the tiny record department of the military exchange at Fort Richardson, Alaska. I was a 21 year old soldier and aspiring professional guitarist. I had no idea what I was going to hear, but something told me it wasn't going to sound like AC/DC. "Still Warm" came along at exactly the time I needed to learn that there was more out there than the same old rock and roll. It is a perfect bridge into this style--the playing is great, but not too complicated for someone just discovering jazz. The rhythm section is super tight, and Sco's compositions and playing are just fantatstic. There's a lot of funk influence along with the jazz-rock fusion vibe. "Still Warm" opened the door to a whole other world of music and it literally changed my life. I've been playing and teaching professionally for many years now and owe a great debt to Mr. Scofield. This is great, great music, highly recommended.

i remember the video for high and mighty and this tune has never left my mind i searched for this tune and found it on itunes.the entire album is good,i'm not suprised because omar hakim and darryl jones were killin' the eighties with one gordon sumner (sting)...peace Hector V.
