alannunez - to answer the question posed...In response to the confused poster who wondered why the same recording is sold, on iTunes, for more money. A quick look at the other Bernstein-Shostakovitch 5 will show that this one is four minutes longer. Also - there are different release dates. Both indicate two different recordings. Finally - the two albums have different companion pieces. It's like apples and oranges.
As for this or the other version, I would suggest the other version (and both are available as 'works' only for the same price), only because I think the other one is the one he recorded in Russia in 1959. This was a monumental opportunity and I think the energy is reflected in the rendering. Also, it's yet another reason why we should thank our lucky stars that Leonard Bernstein lived among us only recently.
