Halsey, thank you. This album was a kid who tripped and gashed their knee up pretty bad, and they were cool enough to let us see the wound up close. We got to see the debris still stuck there, the dripping red blood: sign that they’re still alive despite it all, the bruises that have come up and the “hurt feelings”. OHHH THE HURT FEELINGS. And then there are moments of reaction, reflection, and hindisght that are so so delicious. I have no notes about this album, it’s unskippable actually. An absolute knockout of an almost goodbye letter.

Halsey has fully cemented themselves as a powerhouse vocalist, spiritual lyricist, and an overall ARTIST!

Hadley has really laid out their emotions for everyone with this art piece! So raw and beautiful! I find myself starting tracks over just to listen more closely to the lyrics and understand the meaning behind them. I personally believe this could be their best album yet. It’s for sure the best album I’ve heard in a long time from anyone when it comes to emotion. 11/10

I’ve loved Halsey since I discovered her, and I’ve been obsessed with everything of hers. This album is pure artistry and the way she played around with so many different sounds is actual perfection. Her music always resonates on such a deep level and TGI is no exception, the emotion she puts into all of her art and especially this album is nothing short of awe-inspiring.

i am truly speechless. halsey truly has outdone themselves with this beautifully heart-wrenching album. i think this is halsey’s best album!!!

Halseys reflection on her career and life, imposed with the voice of her loved ones throughout each song, creates a powerful album that I think is a strong contender for a AOTY nomination. I don’t think it’ll win, because Halsey has fallen just too far out of the mainstream, and the album is just a little bit too “not made for the charts” (it’s more artistic than catchy), but I’m so glad that I got to experience this piece of art in my lifetime, and that Halsey survived to share that moment with everyone listening to it as well.

After IICHLIWP I thought she’d never be able to top it and I’m happy to be wrong. I’ve had it playing constantly since the release.

After 11 years, any artist would struggle to keep producing quality music that their listeners haven’t already heard. Halsey never seems to struggle with that. In her 5th album, the singer exhumes the time of their life that brought the singers sense of self and mortality into question. In The Great Impersonator, Halsey analyses their emotions and experiences with grief and fear through the lens of various decades. In every time period, are they still Halsey? From the 70s to the 2010s, she exhumes the most raw and volatile parts of her life during the trial of fighting cancer and a lupus diagnosis. From Panic Attack, influenced by Stevie Nicks, to Hurt Feelings, referencing Halsey’s own breakout album Badlands, the singer consistently exposes their heart and fears for us to hear. With the range of production and sound in each song, there is truly at least 1 song for every type of listener to enjoy. Halsey outdoes herself time and time again, showing their ability to adapt and change across the decades. Despite this transformation, at the core of the album, you can hear and see Halsey: a star who speaks their truth, even while they are terrified. The Great Impersonator is truly one of her best works, and answers the question posed in the last track of the album. “Does a story die with its narrator?” Halsey’s legacy of iconic albums that leave their fans feeling seen and safe, tells us that their story will not end. Long after the icon passes, we will remember the words she wrote that made us understand we were never alone.

i knew this album was going to need to be felt very deeply, and two vodka sodas in i was on my knees in my dark living room, crying my eyes out. i'm so glad that halsey is alive and was able to give us this record. i'm so proud of them, and this is a phenomenal release. 🤍

Still can’t get through it without sobbbing. Oh my god, so many lyrics I felt she wrote for me that I couldn’t believe I was hearing. She’s so gifted.

So deep, beautiful, unique. I’ve listened to every Halsey album, they’re all good but this one is different. It even made me cry. Truly magical.

This album is a lyrical masterpiece. It's incredibly similar to Manic, just much more heartbreaking. If you enjoyed the album Manic, this is an album you will most likely love.

Man, what a rare gem. There is so much pressure on artists to produce music and move in a regimented direction. I remember when Halsey first came out and loved them. When they hit a certain level of fame you almost assume the music will go down the drain because music for the masses follows a generic algorithm and all sounds the same. Halsey, with their FIFTH album is continuing to pave a new path only few dare to take. And they crushed it AGAIN! It’s authentic and raw. Ash, thank you! Can’t wait to see this work of art live.

This album is so much more than a masterpiece, it’s taking a step into halsey brain and sharing the space. There’s no skips, as each song is written to the hearts core.
