Barbra Streisand - Guilty

About Guilty by Barbra Streisand Album

Guilty is an album released by Barbra Streisand in 1980. After the success of the Bee Gees in 1977/1978, there was some time to perform songwriting for other artists and Barbra Streisand asked Barry Gibb to write an album for her. It became her best-selling album to date with sales (according to Streisand's official website) of over 15 million copies and was produced by the Bee Gees' Barry Gibb and the Bee Gees' regular production team of Albhy Galuten and Karl Richardson. The title track, a duet between Streisand and Gibb, won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal in 1981, and was a #3 Billboard Hot 100 hit. The first single "Woman in Love" became one of the most successful songs of Streisand's music career and spent a total of three weeks at the #1 position in the Billboard chart. "What Kind of Fool", another duet with Gibb, reached #10. The fourth single, "Promises", a more disco-oriented track released in May 1981, reached as high as #48. This song was also released on Streisand's first commercially-released 12" disco single as a solo artist following her 1979 duet with Donna Summer and two "promotional" 12" singles released for "Shake Me, Wake Me (When It's Over) in 1975, and "The Main Event/Fight" in 1979. Streisand released a sequel to this album, Guilty Pleasures, in 2005, also produced and largely written by Gibb. Guilty was re-released on DualDisc on 30 August 2005 in advance of its sequel project, Guilty Pleasures. The re-release featured remastered audio, new interviews with Streisand and Gibb, two live performances from 1986 and a photo gallery of the original photo session for Guilty by Mario Casilli.

- Love it.

One of my favorite albums, brings back memories of driving in a convertible on the Pacific Coast Highway.

- More like ❤❤❤❤❤

Love me some Barbra and love me a brother Gibb. Perfection

- Guilty of Greatness.

A personal favorite of mine. Arguably the finest album of Streisand's impressive career catalog.

- yuck

this was bad then and it's bad now. we've got nothing to be guilty of - except being crappy middlebrow artists. STINKS.

- Bobby Bee

What a combination! What an appropriate time FOR the combination!! Two musical ICONS!! Wow!!

- Love it

had the album, wore it out when it first came out. Perfect blend these two. Make it like a memory is great for interpretative dance.

- What A Way To Begin Phase Three...

"Guilty" was released in 1980 and charted a new territory for Barbra. It marks the first time ever that an album would be pre-recorded and she would have to overdub her vocals. She and Barry did clash a bit, he stated there was one song Barbra absolutely hated and he rushed "What Kind Of Fool" to replace it. She must have known what she was talking about because "What Kind Of Fool" would become one of this albums biggest hits alongside "Woman In Love" and the title track "Guilty." "Promises" was extended and remixed for the clubs, too bad the DualDisc remaster of this cd doesn't contain that track. The mastered version here is the original AAD designation, not remastered, and the three hit songs from this cd will be remastered for "The Essential Barbra," "Guilty" will find another home first on Barbra's boxed set with a bit of studio chatter on the fadeout.

- my guilty pleasure

such a beautiful album, my mom found her vinyl of this and my boyfriend and i love it. oh and we're 17 and 18 so you know this album has stood the test of time

- Wonderful Easy Listening!

I bought this album when it first came out, and I have played it ever since. The music never get's old to hear. Outstanding complete album. Enjoy!!

- I Loooooove this album!!

Barbra is literally the best singer there ever was! in this album she nailed The Love Inside!! Love her!!

- PURE GOLD

Pure gold. The Production values are through the roof. If you think you have godd stereo system this album will prove it or not. Gibb is a genius. Streisand is simply the best we'll ever know in our lifetime. Own it. Billy Beyond

- Looove her!

I've been listening to Barbra since I was little. I have all her albums on record, cd, and ipod. Call me an old soul, but I know good music when I hear it.

- Guilty

Love these songs, remind me of the 80s that never tired of listen to. Barry you and brothers are the best!

- Barry Gibb is the talent

She is adequate. Barry Gibb, however, is the brains behind the song Guilty; his vocals are superior to hers and make this song what it is beyond his excellent songwritng. She could be replaced by anybody and it would still rock. He is a true talent behind the scenes and in front.

- Best Barbara has ever done.

Barbara's voice has always sent chills up my spine with her pure clarity. This album though is by far the most incredible, complete album I have ever enjoyed. I bought the album years ago and never tire of breaking it back out, dim the lights and sit back and just enjoy.

- Album review by Apple

No matter who might be, The Bee Gees always seem to get the lower end of the stick during any kind of reviews. As you read the album review above, Apple interprets Barry Gibb's song wrting and producing as second rate. The album sold more than 20 million units. Also The Bee Gees have sold more than 200 million albums.

- Pretty Rockin

Both huge talents. Brings you back to the early 80's.

- Streisand pleads "Guilty."

I was not alive when this album was recorded or released so of course I don't remember the hit singles from this album being played on the radio. In 2005 I saw that Streisand released a new album as a sequel to this album called "Guilty Pleasures." I got it and actually started enjoying it. So on iTunes I decided to purchase the original "Guilty" released in the 70's. It's actually really good. It may sound a bit dated compared to Streisand's more recent albums but it's still good. Her vocal delivery is excellent. She really has a gift for singing. The title track with Barry Gibb of the Bee Gee's is a noteable highlight, as is their other duet entitled "What Kind of Love." Jordin Sparks, a contestant of the popular American tv show "American Idol" covered the song "Woman In Love" which of course did not match up to Streisand's original version. The song is so beautiful and magical. Many of the songs on here are great and I would definately reccomend this as a purchase on iTunes. I'm so thankful that it's still available to buy even though it's pretty old by now.

- Absolute Wonder

What can I say that the most of you already said? Guilty is by far one of the best duets performed during the Disco age and well after. Never would have thought that I would be completely sold and feeling the heck out of this song, let alone Ms. Streisand. 2 thubs way up.
