I bought this recording of the Messiah after mixing up the actual version I wanted. The overture symphony is positively anemic and the great Amen is painfully and inexplicably slow. Everything in between is equally lacking. I recommend the 1966 recording from the London Symphony Orchestra. It is far superior in every way and likewise includes each aria, recitative, chorus, and symphony from all 3 parts.
This is a mildly acceptable recording. I, however, would not buy it. The tenor is dreadful and the other soloists are not particularly impressive. Actually, on second listening, the other soloists are quite dreadful as well. The general sound of the recording and the orchestra is fine; however, there are simply better interpretations of this work out there with far superior solo artists. Find a better version of this work and you'll be happy you spent that money. This will only disappoint. You've been warned!
Amazing! Classical music is so complex and the orchestra is an amazaing sound!
This is an amazing production. The songs won't cut off if you adjust the settings in the playback menu (or whatever it's called) to not fade in or out of the songs. There you go. There has never been a more amazing composition, in my opinion.
A beautiful recording, including passages that are often omitted. There are variations in tempo and dynamics which surprised me on first listening but serve the music wonderfully.
This is a beautiful recording of Handel's Messiah. I especially enjoy the Alto solo "O Thou that Tellest." This interpretation is so beautiful and the mezzo's tone is unparalleled. That movement and its recit. are definitely worth downloading!
Branch out. Don't just listen to the Hallelujah chorus, and 'For unto us a child is born.' You can own the entire Messiah!! Including my personal favorite 'For we like sheep,' which is left out of many highlight albums. Good tempo. Good sound. Five stars in my book!
