Vaughan was a master about his business. Tin Pan Alley is one of the benchmarks to test speakers on and there is no doubt about why.
Stevie Ray Vaughan was easily the greatest American guitarist of all time. In my opinion, he is the second best of any guitarist, just behind Jimmy Page. (Yes, hes better than Hendrix and Clapton) Truly a musical genius. His solos on Texas Flood and Rude Mood are the best.
Essential Stevie Ray Vaughn. He really has an umph in his playing. A good "feeling" type of guitarist. You can hear the Jimi Hendrix influence, but Stevie Ray has in turn influenced many other guitarists.
Voodoo Child and Superstition are made worse by Stevie Ray Vaughan
Shows I purchased this yet it’s not on my device. I’ve had this on my phone for years now it’s gone!!! Apple better step their game up! #Itsfloodingdownintexas
Leaving off one song makes me not buy the album, and of course it had to be Voodoo Child. Shame on you.
SRV is/was one of the greatest guitarists....ever. He has 6 Grammy's to his credit. Rolling Stone has him listed as # 7 of the best 100 guitarists ever. This compilation is a testament to his skill. RIP Stevie
Everyone wants to talk about what an influential guitarist he was.. how he ranks up there with Hendrix, Page and Clapton. This is blatantly obvious - one cannot listen to the man or have seen him live (which thank the Lord I did the year he passed) without being privy to this fact. One would have to harbor the simplest mind not to realize this - however, what critics and fans rarely ever touch upon, was his voice. Raw, emotional, soul gripping - he could growl the best and get as gritty as you please on the one hand and in next turn be as tender and emotionally broken as any singer who ever lent their vocals to the blues or any other form of music. This is especially true in the song "Change It" which never seems to get the respect that his "radio friendly" hits (Cold Shot) or the overplayed and shoved down our throat tunes ("Pride and Joy") get on corporate radio stations around the globe. Stevie's best works were the ones never played for the masses, hiding inside the album just waiting for a chance to make its way into your soul. Every time he made a record, he was giving the public another layer of his mindset, his heart and his soul. He was so much more than "Pride and Joy", "The Sky is Crying", and "Cold Shot". No other guitaist could feel or portray what Hendrix was thinking the way Stevie did on "Voodo Child", and "Little Wing". I fell in love with the Blues thanks to him (and Robert Johnson) and for a woman to love such a genre as that which is extremely macho and gritty is a testament to his legacy. See you on the other side Stevie. Tell Hendrix we said hello.
Stevie Ray Vaughan influenced so many guitarists it's amazing. This is some of his best and it is really fantastic guitar playing. You can just feel the energy and power and is some of the best Blues out there.
Just bought this album and the first three songs start and then cut off.
I was a fan for a long time and literally had tears when I heard he perished in a chopper crash. His guitar technique was one of the best and he sure knew his blues scales. I studied his ability and tried to imitate it but that was pretty much impossible for me. I eventually learned he tuned down to an E flat to put heavier strings and the guitar and sig one half step lower. So that’s what I did. It leads to fewer broken stings. If you are a guitar or blues fan, this is a must have.
way better than freekin hendrix!!!! all you need to do is listen to little wing and you'll see.
Outstanding is the only way to describe this album.
Stevie Ray Vaughn is literally the best blues guitar Player that ever lived. life By The Drop is hands down my favourite Double Trouble song.
This is the MOST SENSUOUS song one will ever hear. My all time favourite from SRV!
awesome cd :) too many live songs:( if U dont like SRV, dont get this. it would be a complete waste of your valuable time.
I listen to this album and his Riffs just move my spirit. I absolutely love to listen. I have been playing for 37 years and his music is so soulful and insightful. This album is a must have.
Super, a must have
There are no words to portray how indelible the work of Stevie, Tommy, Chris & Reese are on the fabric of my soul. This song might capture that feeling as much if not more than any other they do. All I can say is; Thank you all so much!!! Stevie was great and let’s never forget how well the others were too. Thank you for so very much, we all have missed you. Live again, love again!
This is a great collection of his songs. No one has ever or will ever be like Stevie!
this man truly knew his way around a guitar. it's so obvious that i don't even need to say it. but i did. these live versions are so good! he never even needed a studio, the stage was his studio. everything was so on point. i know there's a lot of 'essential' greatest hits albums out there, but this really is ESSENTIAL for any, even the most casual, listeners of SRV & double trouble. i know this review is redundant and everyone already knows what i'm saying here, but i just had to say it anyway. because it's just that good.
This album has everything!
Stevie Ray still has one of the most exciting voices in Blues music. The incredible benefit is that he could make that Fender almost talk. You could hear the grip he had on it as he pulled those chords out into the air. This album offers his popular songs but it has a few I'd never heard before. There's "Telephone Song" where the beginning notes sound like a ringing telephone and his guitar seems to sing when he doesn't. With "Rude Mood" you can hear him flying so quickly that the drummer has to punch it a couple of times trying to keep up. But "Voodoo Child" is the feast for your ears and rhythmic soul drenched in a musical sexuality that Hendrix would have been proud of... Stevie Ray's album is a mix of his best. Xooniatrueblood
SRV is as talented & real as the Blues gets!... This collection is simply Awesome!
Top 5 of all time
I wish would have seen this man live in concert. My younger son introduced him to me. After that, I was hooked. He is absolutely the best at everything he did. RIP Stevie!
Rather listen to steamy ray von
What is wrong with you people I've had to purchase the song twice now. Used to be a good service now just glitchy lame and overpriced you owe me money.
A great collection by one of the best that ever lived. His style was so unique - thank God we have what we have to remember him by...
This is a great album...If you like rock or blues buy it....RIP Stevie Ray Vaughan
iTunes couldn't figure out why Voodoo Child wouldn't download to my iPhone, everything they suggested did absolutely nothing, so I brought my phone to AT&T and the tech told me sometimes the iPhone needs to be in WiFi mode. It worked , now I finally have my Voodoo Child !! Thanks Jake ! Guy knows more than the techs at iTunes.......
If you are not a huge SRV fan after listening to this album you will be. I recomend this to anyone who wants to be introduced to this awsome guitar slinger. The songs on here are amazing everything from the raw live songs like "Shake For Me" and "Rude Mood/Hideaway" to the straight blues of "Texas Flood" and "Tin Pan Alley". The Instumentals "Little Wing", "Lenny" and "Riveria Paradise" will blow you away and the closing track "Life By The Drop" not only makes you miss SRV but shows how how amazingly verstile this man was.I recomend this and all of his work to anyone and everyone he was truly a gift to Guitarists and music lovers everywere. R.I.P. Stevie.
Amazing singer/guitarist. Immensely underrated and consistantly emulated. Buy anything he did and you'll never regret it. Kids listen to this guy if you love guitar playing and great southern rock vocals. You need this!!!
It's Stevie Ray Vaughan!! Buy it!!!
Great album but I can't believe it doesn't include Dirty Pool
i love svr
It doesn't get much better than this. SRV, we miss you, brother.
Stevie Ray Vaughn is undeniably the greatest blues player that has ever graced this earth with his immediatly recognizable tone and virtuosic playing, not to mention his incredible voice which was made for texas blues.
Thanks for picking my pocket Steve Jobs, you and your sleazy dork associates will be knocked off your perch one day. |. BTW-the iPad is the biggest rip off yet. Shame on all people buying into that piece of junk. Sincerely, Apple Hater :-)
Best guitar playing I have ever heard! This man is amazing!!!!
