- "Love When You Can; Cry When You Have To!"

.."Be Who You Must; That's A Part Of The Plan!"..And the Music & Lyrics of Dan Fogelbreg were a good "Part Of The Plan" of 1970's Rock Radio! {Blessed with an angelic voice; Dan could play Guitar & Piano and also paint his own album covers!} On "Souvenirs"; Fogelberg surrounds himself with some heavy company and the results paid off handsomely! (Doesn't hurt to have the ringing slide guitar of future Eagle Joe Walsh in the Studio with you!) And the Songs & Melodies on "Souvenirs"; All Top-Notch! {Mining similar teritory as James Taylor, The Eagles, John Denver & Jackson Browne; This record panned up gold for Dan Fogelberg!} Which lands "Souvenirs" a spot on the "Sensitive Seventies Set" list!...by Grimmbo.

- Souvenirs

Every time I listen to this album it makes me stop what I am doing. The songs are so tightly written. A Place in the World for a Gambler touches the heart, and makes you want to listen over and over.

- One of my Favorite albums!!!

Have ❤❤ Dan Fogelberg's music a looong time! Thank You for leaving Your Beautiful music behind..

- Classic

From the title track Souvenirs to Morning Sky,Fogelberg could rope you in and keep you wanting more with this classic album.Just coming into his own, Souvenirs was a small taste of gems yet to come on albums like The Innocent Age and Windows and Walls. Timeless and beautiful just like the artist who created this album, no one could express or capture the human experience quite like Fogelberg. Thankfully, his music lives on. Rest in peace.

- Pure Gold

My favorite song of all of Dan's music is Souvenirs. Better Change and Changing Horses are great, as well. This entire album is a winner.

- Song From Half Mountain

Maybe its because I'm a singer/songwriter, but I go along with my chores and my day with this album in the back ground until Song From Half Mountain begins. Then I stop what ever I'm doing and listen. The poetry is Burns or Browning-esque; the guitars sparkle in a melancholy way while the production stays out of the way. It lulls you into that place you tried to forget a long time ago, it recounts some distant pain, with the now found satisfaction of having moved past it. The genius of this album is that it follows this track with Morning Sky. From "I'm sad you left" to, "I'm glad you're leaving." Wow. Great work. Not to be missed or forgotten.

- Recommendations

In case you are new to Dan--I find songs like "Souvenirs," "Be on Your Way" (first album), "The Last Nail" (Captured Angel), and "Dancing Shoes"(Nether Lands) to be gorgeous. Give them a try. I find his hits, "Longer" and "Leader Of the Band" to be insufferable sap.

- One of the Best

My favorite album and (blushing) my favorite poster. Dan's music got me though the good and the bad times from high school to present. Easy to listen to, inspiring and moving. His music and style never changed unlike so many of the singers and songwriters from the 70's. My heart and prayers to family and friends who lost the physical presents of a great man, but will have a piece of him forever. Thanks for all the great music!!!

- Farewell to a Master

All the happiness this album has brought to me over the years came to a sad halt when I learned of Dan's death. After a day of reflection and sadness, I downloaded it and listened to it again in a more focused frame of mind. Happiness returned as each song just blends beautifully from one to the next. This album is a true, vastly underrated, classic! I will greatly miss Dan, but hopefully by his passing, more people will become aware of what a Great Artist he was. The voice of an Angel is now in Heaven to hopefully greet us all when our time is up.

- Can't believe it's been so long...

since I first saw him in concert. In 1976, he came to U. of Oregon to play at MacArthur Court. My roommate was from Illinois, and persuaded me to come see Dan Fogelberg play. I talked to him yesterday, and relived the concert...and I thanked him for dragging me to that concert. Fogelberg's music still sounds as good today, as it did 30 years ago.

- owning this is a souvenir!!

I truely cannot express how much Dan's music has meant to me in my life. His lyrics are a true work of art, as is his musical talent. He will be truely missed. Iam so sorry that he has left this world, maybe it was part of the plan....either way I feel he had more to share. I will consider myself blessed to have been part of an era that could appreciate his talents. I think his work is timeless, as is he in my heart. You will be missed' your musical abilities for generations to come to appreciate!!!!

- It was all part of the plan

I was studying (ok maybe not studying) in Rome in 1975 during College and had no music. My brother mailed me a handful of 8-tracks (remember them) and Souvenirs was one of them. It was like being on a desert island with a handul of albums and this one got worn out. As with many of his fans, his music defined our College years and brought some sanity to some frenetic times. This is a timeless LP. if you are new to DF--start here and then continue to Captuerd Angel and Home Free. Long live the life and times of Mr. Fogelberg.

- Definitive 70's...

This one belongs in everyone's collection. Although Dan was best known for his later, more orchestrated works, "Souvenirs" provides us with the full breadth of his talent. The thought provoking lyrics, the tight arrangements, and his mastery of keys, guitar and voice were never more evident than here. And Joe Walsh's production, guitar and keys add just the right edge in some places, and smoothness in others. Particularly touching are the tunes with just Dan and his guitar, namely "Changing Horses" and "Song From Half Mountain". This is one of those records I often reach for, sometimes from mere habit, but mostly because it never fails to touch my soul in the way that only an artist and their instrument can. And I can never listen to "Souvenirs" without reaching for my own guitar and picking along. I listened to it the day before we lost Dan and I'll be listening to it as long as I'm earthly bound.

- This is the best Dan Fogelberg album....Souvenirs my personal Fav....

We just lost a great guitarist, lyricist and vocalist with the voice of angels. We will remeber you in song.

- beautiful nostalgia

Like many other reviews this is an album from my past, and in listening to it again it brought back so many memories. You know how you can not hear an album for a long time and then you hear it again and you know every single word to every single song and you wonder why you forgot you didn't have it. (that makes sense right). Well I did not have this in my collection and I have remedied that. This album is timeless and works well today. Dan Fogelberg was a great singer/songwriter and has influenced many of the younger musicians out there. And i had such a crush on him, as shallow as it sounds, I thought he was such a good looking man, he was as beautiful as his music. I highly recommend this album!

- He is so great

i've gown up with dan and being an adult know i can hear in songs what i never could before. He is such a terrific song writter. every song on this album is exceptioal. if you long for some great old rock music from the heart, buy this album!

- Let it Shine

If you're not a Fogelberg fan...you need to hear this album, yes I still have it. Of course Part of the Plan will get you moving but from beginning to end it's a masterpiece of musical independence. That, I believe, is Fogelberg's trademark. He created what he wanted to...not what the pop-charts wanted. This is the reason so many of us faithful Fogelberg followers loved him. He was the Leader of the Band and will be missed at a profound level that few musicians will even think about approaching.

- A part of everyone's life

Dan was a part of my life - a part of my family - for a few short years. He dated my sister off and on, starting with Home Free (1972) then Souvenirs, Captured Angel, Nether Lands, and on. He called her Maggie, but we knew her by a different name. They were married only briefly - from 1983 to 1984. In his brief stay on this earth he has left us a lasting legacy. He will be missed.

- There's A Place In The World For Dan

Believe it or not, I bought this album the Saturday right before Dan passed on. I was at the local record store and I was trying to decide between Boston's debut album or souvenirs/home free. I went with the latter and I have enjoyed getting lost in his beautiful music ever since. I was so surprised to hear of his death when I had just bought a few of his albums. Along with artists like Paul Simon, Graham Nash, and others, Dan Fogelberg is one of those guys that can translate his ideas and feelings into songs perfectly. This album is filled with songs to live by. Rest in Peace Dan, and thanks for all the beautiful music you've left us with.

- Souvenirs

Rest in Peace Dan

- Rest in Peace, Dan

I loved this album in college. It got me through some tough times with a recent break-up. The man has a voice of an angel.

- A perfect match

between Fogelberg's voice and the music that he writes.

- R.I.P. Dan! :(

I love his songs! I fell in love with part of the plan particularly and leader of the band! I highly recommend all of his songs to anybody!!! Rest in peace Dan.

- Souvenirs

Classic Dan Fogelberg. Song from Half Mountain stays with you. I played this album over and over again in 1974. Funny how in 2007 it is still relevant, still clear and still speaks to your soul. We lost one of the good guys when we lost Dan.

- Souvenirs

This recording is still the best work of Dan. It is still appropriate today some 30 years later. The best singles are Souvenirs, The Long way, and Part of the plan, but I think the best song here is There's a Place In the World for a Gambler. It has never been given it's full due. Check it out.

- One of the greatest albums of all time

My dad introduced this album to me when i was about 10 years old and I instantly fell in love. I have listened to it countless times and have never gotten tired of it. Anybody who is reading this review should buy this album. Even though it came out 35 years ago, I would still have to say it is my personal favorite and blows any music out of the water that is produced today.

- So much to enjoy!

Part of the Plan, Better Change, Song from Half Mountain, Someone's... wow songs. Good melodies. His voice will mesmerize you. And the melodies were WAY ahead of their time. For trance fans, he has some riffs which fascinate you. I cannot believe his music hasn't been incorporated into more love stories. It is wonderful.

- Dan at his best

I think Souvenirs was Dan Fogelberg's best album and I'm a long time fan. Several of these songs have made me sob buckets over the years -- "Souvenirs" (the song) is the one that gets me the most, followed by "There's a Place in the World for a Gambler." They are wonderful poetry and always had the power to touch me deeply at various stages of my life. I was so sad today to hear he had died. In mourning, this was the first album I needed to download -- I had to hear it again as I remembered what his music had meant to me. Dan, you will be very missed by your fans.

- Dan will be missed ...

His music will always be his legacy. Dan had an angelic voice, in my opinion. May he rest in peace. Godspeed, Dan!

- Had to have it

I was out driving one night in 1974, when I heard "Someone's Been Telling You Stories" on an Los Angeles FM station (probably KLOS). I was so moved by the intensity that I hunted around until I found an open record store and bought the 8-Track immediately. Turned out to be one of my favorite albums ever. Fogelberg's music was never half-baked - always full out.

- The Truest of Artist

DF was one of the greatest if not the greatest singer/song writer of all times. Through his songs you can almost touch and see what he is singing. He was truly a painter through his ballads. His songs are meant to be listened to out under the star lit sky with the one you love.

- A SOUVENIR

A SOUVENIRNOF GREATNESS . GOD BLESS YOU DAN!

- A Master

"There is a Place in the World for a Gambler", Dan Fogelberg gambled on his insightful lyrics and composed melodies during a time when music mainstream had shifted form this. His gamble provided 30 years of great music. This album is a must as it truly began to show the maturing as an artist and his greatness as a writter of both the music and the lyrics.

- weak by critics, strongest by fans

i wouldn't want to live w/o the pedal steel in 'illinois'

- Timeless music

I guess the fact that I have owned this album for the last 35 years and still enjoy it every time I hear it says about all you need to know. While I have tired of alot of the 70's music, I am still taken by the depth of this album. It has aged extremely well. I say you'll want the whole thing...it's one of those albums that is best enjoyed by listening to it in it's entirety.

- Dan the Man

Souvenirs Wiki

A souvenir (French for 'a remembrance or memory'), memento, keepsake, or token of remembrance is an object a person acquires for the memories the owner associates with it. A souvenir can be any object that can be collected or purchased and transported home by the traveler as a memento of a visit. The object itself may have intrinsic value, or be a symbol of experience. Without the owner's input, the symbolic meaning is lost and cannot be articulated.
