- Never Understood why, but oh well, welcome the God of money

I never understood why this woman and other Jewish singers keep on singing Christmas Music; after all, they (Jewish) don't believe nor recognized Jesus as the Savior or Messiah, and Christmas is nothing else but the celebration of the birth of Jesus who is the Messiah. Nowadays I understand we have added Santa and ohter cartoons to the celebration of Christmas, but we don't need Jews to come and sing to our savoir, unless they believe Jesus is the savoir and the Son of God. And not I am nto anti-semite, but the truth is the truth. But I guess they and recording Christmas music to make more money or to be listened again, most of them nonbody cares no more, only old people. Who this singers are? I am talking about Bette Midler, Neil Diamond, Barry Manilow, Babra Streisand and others. I don't have a problem with them singing, but come on, Christmas is nothing but the celebration of the birth of Jesus and they don't believe in Jesus. they don't have to make money about of our belifes

Leave it to Bette Midler to make THE Christmas recording for 2006! She knows exactly what her listeners want to hear when it comes to Christmas music, and she certainly delivers with this recording. I like it all... and that's a rare statement for me to make when it comes to Christmas recordings, or any recording, for that matter. From the fun seasonal songs to the real message of Christmas... this recording covers all the bases... perfectly, and the musical arrangements are top notch too. This is a MUST HAVE!

If you love Bette Midler, and you love Christmas, you'll love this album. Some all time favorites are there, and done in a great style, with a little jazz, a little pop, and a little Wakiki! I did not like O Come, O Come. Plainsong chant just doesn't work as a belted ballad. But the rest of the album is the top.

Please "E. Ponicus" this is not a forum for anything other then to REVIEW the music Bette is a great artist. Should her faith stop her from giving great holiday music to ""ALL""? I and it seems others think not. If a friend of another religious sect passes away, you go to the service and partake in the parts your comfortable with. Please follow your choice of faith and enjoy the music as it was intended for. PLEASE

I love this album so much. Although there are traditional songs, Bette makes them all thier own. Every song is so moving. This cd rocks!

She is a very mean person and she has no talent!! Her singing sounds awful!! Also, Christmas is about Jesus Christ our Savior!!

- Some fun tracks and classic Bette take on traditional songs

Every track is well produced and Bette adds her humor to some very traditional Christmas songs making them very entertaining to listen to. I especially like the Johnny Matthis duo and the Hawaiian Chsitmas song. Also included is a Chrsitmas version of, "From a Distance" which is very cool and I know will be loved by Bette Midler fans.

Where is the "find more like this" button? Nowhere. So if you want an entire album by Bette this is the one you'll have to get. And honestly speaking, it's the only one you'll ever need. It's just that you love it so much you can't help but want for more. Enjoy!!

- Refreshing Classic Christmas Songs

I was looking for some fun, uplifting classics and this entire album hit the mark. The songs are not over done, or over sung. Just the familiar classics, but with pop and a bit of an old school flair.

You can hear the smile on Midler's face during this album -- and it makes you smile. A wonderful Christmas album.

- All-Around Excellent Album

This album rocks!! It has just the precise mixture of holiday classics and not so classic tunes. I love the new "From A Distance" cut. She is soulful on "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day" and playful on "Mele Kalikimaka". I haven't taken this CD out of my player since I bought it last week. If you are to buy only one new holiday album this season I highly recommend "Cool Yule", you won't be disappointed.

You probably know the story about Miss M starting her career singing in a bathhouse in NYC in the early 70's. I'm one of the very few who was there and still remember that amazing voice wafting up five floors when she sang. She knocked the toughest audiences in Manhattan off their feet then, and nearly three and half decades later - she's still doing it! I bought the album the minute it was released and have been listening to it in the car all afternoon today. Got me into the Christmas spirit in spite of a 65 degree late November day in NYC, and the fact that it just doesn't feel like Christmas yet. Tonight went to the tree lighting in Rockefeller Center and listened to her Winter Wonderland and the new From a Distance... both are amazing. It's Miss M and she's still Divine as ever! This is an album she should have done years ago - but better late than not at all. BUY IT and put it in your permanent Christmas Music collection. You'll be listening to some of these tracks forty years from now!

Our family gets a big kick out of Mele Kalikimaka (we try to say it, but always end up laughing) So, Thanks!, Bette Midler, for bringing us joy through your singing. Merry Christmas!

If you are a fan of Miss Midler's music, or of Classis Christmas songs, this is a "must have" album. Her musical abilities come shinning through in a seemingly effortless performance that reflects a truly professional vocalist. Wow!

Oh My-Gee Whiz!! This CD is worth twice the price herein if only to hear Bette and Johnny Mathis talking in their duet (since it is a rarity to nil that Johnny talks on CD's or anywhere else)! I've been waiting for Bette's duet with Johnny Mathis since it was officially announced it would happen. But I'm not leaving out my best raves for Bette's great voice and her choices in the rest of her "Cool Yule" CD creation. Good going with excellent Chistmas music on this CD.

This album is fun and reminds me a lot of The old Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra ERA of Christmas Classics. It inspires a fun christmas Mood. Although the remake of from a distance, reminds me of every other ICON turning one of their hit songs into a christmas song, and acting like they invented the wheele.

Bette Midler has a very unique, beautiful and melodic voice. Cool Yule has light fun songs and others that are deeply moving. I recommend anyone add this to their essential Christmas music collection to listen to year after year.

- As Deep as a Christmas Tree Stand

I love Christmas music and Bette Midler so I was really looking forward to this one. Sadly, as I listened, I got the feeling that this CD lacks the passion and depth that she has in her music. She doesn't really get into any of these songs...not even the happy Mele Kalikimaka, which should be tailor made for her to belt out. The Andrews Sisters had more spirit on the original. I wish I could recommend it, but I can't.

Every track on this CD is awesome, her voice, the arrangements, the choice of songs -superb. "Merry Christmas" is an absolute gem, and got me digging around to confirm my suspicion that Judy Garland sang this first in the 1949 movie "In the Good Old Summertime" - you won't find it on many compilations, and it's beautiful. Thanks Bette!

Oh Cool Yule, Oh Cool Yule, this one is the best. Oh what fun, it is to hear, Bette singing songs like these, Hey I loved this, not same ol, same ol with her.

Bette is in great voice on this very worthy addition to your Christmas music collection. The songs are traditional, but the CD still swings more than most. Mele Kalikimaka, From a Distance & the title track are highlights. And, come on, the cover is fabulous!

Just when you think Bette can't get any better, there she goes again topping herself. Cool Yule gets more fabulous each time I listen to it. Way to to make the holidays even brighter Bette!!

- Finally a singer in red heals that can sing

This album is great and highly recommend it. Bette could hum the album and I would buy it but the great thing about it is she still has the same pipes as alway. She as not lost a thing. We still love you Bette and always will, and for the record, I loved your T.V. Show.

- Merry Midler

Wow what a fun album! I loved the song selection. People either love Midler or hate her but you have to give it to the girl - she has range. I love the bouncy fun songs as well as the standards. I truly loved Oh Come, Oh Come, Emmanuel. Beautiful voice and beautiful music. There were some omissions that stood out. I would have loved Silent Night- the first song Midler ever sung in school -she was conflicted when she won the school contest. That moment changed her life- would have been nice to be included. alk about coming full circle. I also hoped for The Gift of Love a song from her 92 CD Some People's Lives that always seemed like a holiday song to me. Bette also sang Baby It's Cold Outside with James Caan in For the Boys. A reteaming duet would have been really cool! This is one great holiday collection. There is thought and value in every song. Thanks Bette.

- Very enjoyable overall

Bette does a great job here of revamping holiday favorites and introducing her own. The only weak rendition is "Mele Kalikimaka." Over the "campy-top!" But she is The Divine Miss M, so you can forgive this less than pleasing rendition and enjoy the other fun and unique selections, especially "Cool Yule" "Emmanuel" and "From a Distance".

- Fun album? You Bette!

Raised on the classic Christmas tunes (e.g. Perry Como, Nat King Cole, Henry Mancini, Julie Andrews, Andy Williams, etc.), I usually don't like newer interpretations of the old standards. But Cool Yule has the feeling of a classic album even though it is brand new. Maybe that's because Bette is a classic. I can't help but feel happy when I listen to the mix of upbeat, fun songs backed by a full orchestra. The slower songs are sentimental and borderline sappy, but so am I! Bottom line: Bette sounds like she had a great time recording this album, especially the duet with Johnny Mathis.

- Christmas solo albums don't get much bette__r than this

Every song on the album is done to her usual perfect standards, and repeated listening just shows how good this really is. I have an embarassing amount of holiday music in all genres, and Cool Yule ranks at the top of my list for quality. If you are looking for hymns or classical, go elsewhere. If you want holiday spirit, wonderful arrangements, outstanding vocals, (even if you aren't a Bette fan) this will be worth the purchase.

- One Hot Red Head!

That's One Hot Red Head on the cover - possibly hitching a sleigh ride in a winter wonderland! That red hed is the divine Mrs. Bettle Midler and she sounds amazing on this record - the beautiful string arrangements - surround her velvety tones without over powering her supple voice. She's made a classic christmas album - I find myself listening to it sometimes throughout the year - it's that good. My favorites are: Mele Kalikimaka, What Are You Doing New Year's Eve? - she sounds very 'sex kitten' on this one, Winter Wonderland Medley with Johnny is a riot - classic fun - reminds me of another era, I'll Be Home For Christmas, I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm, & From A Distance the newly recorded version just blows my mind away - a beautiful new arrangment - I remember when I first heard this record in 4th grade my teacher was so excited she had to share it. Throughout the entire record you feel Bette's heartfelt singing - she's made some classic christmas songs sound brand new without making it sound too modern and without tarnishing the finish/polish on these classic songs. If there's one album you want to buy for christmas buy this one - I have enjoyed it year after year since it's release and I know you will too.

- not so cool yule

this is a lazy effort from bette who is capable of much better. alot of "cool yule" is standard fare with bette walking through over-familiar material. she has also dusted off a couple of her own old recordings (white christmas & from a distance) which are obvious fillers. once upon a time bette would have sleighed us with a christmas album, but this won't ring anyone's bells...

These are songs we've all heard before, but it's refreshing to hear one of my favourite voices singing them. Bette, as always, does them in her own style, and very well. I love it!
