I'm a HUGE Botti fan, been to his concerts, own all his CDs, etc. Like any real fan, I own the 2002 release of "December". And, it's a great holiday CD. But there's more to this story...... When I saw the 2006 version of his "December" CD in the stores, I figured that Sony/BMG had simply rereleased it with new artwork. Not exactly..... The 2006 version has two tracks ("Ave Maria" and "I Really Don't Want Much For Christmas") which are not on the earlier release. But, Sony/BMG -- for whatever reason -- pulled two tracks from the 2002 disk when they released the 2006 version ("Perfect Day" and "Hark the Hearld Angels Sing" are the omitted selections). If you already own the earlier version, you can download the two new tracks from iTunes. If you buy this "new" version, search for the ORIGINAL version on iTunes (it's here -- I just checked) and download the two missing tracks. {{Just to confuse things more: there are two versions of the original DECEMBER album on iTunes -- one that's listed as "partial", and one that's the full album. You have use the one that's priced at 12.87 to access both missing tracks}} After you download the two missing tracks (depending on which album you originally buy), make a playlist with 15 tracks, and enjoy the REALLY COMPLETE Chris Botti "December" experience". Yes. you wind up paying about two more bucks for the missing tracks, but I personally think it's worth it. And DON'T blame iTunes for this fiasco . . . the gurus at Sony/BMG are to blame. I have no idea why Sony/BMG's crack team of marketers did this to Chris' album. But, thanks to iTunes, a Botti fan can buy the appropriate tracks and assemble all of Chris' Christmas tunes into one complte holiday playlist. Enjoy! BigGym
Christmas Eve, the candles are lit, the fire is burning, the presents are wrapped. Play this wonderful collection of songs and she'll melt in your arms. Thanks Chris!
Chris Botti in "December" is a lot like Chris Botti in such albums as "Night Sessions" and "When I Fall In Love" -- perfect. This is a great CD to play as background music in your home for a holiday feel through out the house that is smooth, not forced like most artist's holiday albums that I have heard. You can also stick this CD in your car to take the holiday feeling with you, which is my personal favorite. Wherever you listen to him, don't doubt that his music will alter the course of your day, making the holidays just a little bit brighter through his clear tones and... well, his perfection. It's good to see a person who can make a holiday album the right way. :)
smooth and mellow.....kind of like a nice bourbon!
One of the best jazz christmas albums to come out in a long time. This is truly one of the most sincere attempts at delivering the classics with passion and the spirit of Christmas rather than just trying to capitalize on fans buying another holiday album. Bravo.
This album captures the peace and tranquility of the holiday season. CB is the most talented trumpet player out there. I have seen him live and he's incredible and he tells stories about his songs. He is a true entertainer. Please listen closely to Ave Maria - track two. The choir is absolutely heavenly and by that I mean they sing so beautifully that this song sounds as if it is sang by angels themselves! I highly recommend this album! Well done Mr. Botti!
...for whatever reason someone I suppose decided to omit the credit for the incredible vocals on what I think is the BEST Christmas song in quite awhile, "I Really Don't Want Much For Christmas" performed by the one and ONLY Eric Benet!!!!!!!!!!!! This guy is the most under-rated singer today. He can do anything vocally. Ballads, funk, R&B, jazz, solos, duets. He has PERFECT PITCH! I had the pleasure of recording him for a series of TV commercials and he was returning from a tour in South Africa and he took a 4 hour nap, came to the studio at 6 pm, told me and my music editors to comeback at 9. we returned and he started recording ALL of the vocal parts for 3 versions of "What's Going On". He finished at about 3 am and really wanted to redo what we all told him was perfect harmony on the background vocals. He insisted and re-recorded all of the 3 part harmony. He could not have been more genuine. So when I see someone with REAL talent get omitted in this day and time of the NO TALENT, IDIOT-CELEBRITY, then I have to speak-up to make sure those with real talent get their just-due. Also, check out Eric's song "The Last Time", on his CD "Hurricane"...it doesn't get any better than that!!!! I don't care how "Hardcore Gangsta" you may be, I challenge you NOT TO BE TOUCHED...it's the best love song since Luther's "Dance with My Father"! As far as Chris Botti, screw the Miles comparisons. In the immortal words of Mr. Davis' classic ---"SO WHAT"!!!!...Chris is simply smoooooth!!!!!!!!!!
I took the advice of a previous reviewer and created a COMPLETE Chris Botti Christmas album by adding the 2 extra tracks from the 2006 version to the 2002 version. It really wasn't difficult, and was well worth the extra couple of dollars. The variety of styles on these tracks, and the great musicianship of all the players is a joy. I'm buying anything Chris records - he is just wonderful. If you ever get to hear him live, do it. His concerts are breath-taking, with much longer, pure jazz renditions than could fit on a disc. His backup band is great, too.
As a fellow trumpeteer I llllloooooovvvvveeee this album it is a must have for any trumpet player! He has inspired me to play as beautifully and wonderfully as possible!!! An Excellent Album for an Excellent Musician!
Botti's understated trumpet is soulful and stirring. Some of the arrangements are very cool and fresh. We are big Botti fans and have seen him live. Highly recommend these holiday arrangements.
This is another wonderful album by Botti.
I was looking through George Winston songs and I looked at what else listeners bought. I found this guy, clicked on the song Hallelujah and fell in LOVE. I fall asleep every night with this song. I LOVE it.
Another AWESOME CD by Chris Botti. What a way to celebrate the Christmas season!! We now have all of Chris Botti's CD's and love each and every one. From one fellow Oregonian to another. You make us very proud. You and your music are a true gift. Thank you Chris!
After one listen this has become may new favorite Christmas album. Ave Maria and Silent Night are beautiful. The whole album is outstanding.
Botti needs to get is own sound, drop the love songs, stop using the smooth jazz approach or he'll never be remembered. If he does get remembered, it'll be as the Kenny G of the trumpet if he doesn't change.
A new beautiful sound to some old classics.
I was so excited to see that Chris Botti had released a Holiday album, and I was not disappointed in the least. His mellow, soulful trumpet brightens up old holiday classics, and brings in newer Christmas songs perfect for the winter season. A must-have for all festive jazz-lovers!
This is the best Christmas music I've come across in a long time. I put it on while wrapping presents or just sitting around with family looking at the tree. I have to admit I like The Christmas Song better than all the rest. Thanks, Chris for this awesome set of Christmas tunes. God bless!
I would not have considered myself a trumpet fan, that is until I heard Chris Botti. I stumbled across a "making of" television show documenting the recording of YoYo Ma's Christmas cd. There I heard Chris Botti's wonderful performance of My Favorite Things. I was hooked and had to have more. This album did not disappoint me. It is the perfect counter to the holiday hustle and bustle. It evokes the peaceful moments of the Christmas season: snuggling in front of the fire, sitting by the lights of the tree after the kids are asleep, first light on freshly fallen snow. It is peaceful, intimate and beautiful. Highly recommended!
Shame on all of you for giving this 5 stars. Chris Botti blows.
Beautiful arrangements and simple trumpet phrasing showcases Chris Botti's incredibly beautiful tone. He keeps the melodies simple, and his impecable timing and soft attacks leave the listener wanting to hear more. Great recording for music background or cranked up loud to hear the great orchestra and wonderful sound of Chris' trumpet.
i am 21 years old, and when Chris Botti has been my favorite jazz trumpet player since i first heard him. (my other favorites are all dead) I had the chance to see him last month in concert and WOW it was amazing. This alblum is good for the christmas season, but is also still one of my favorite CDs to unwind to after a hard day. I recomend this mellow CD to anyone who likes smooth jazz.
He is so hot and he can play!!! I don't really like jazz but I love this album!! 5 STARS DEFINETLY!!!!
Excellent Record! If you are a fan of instrumental jazz, this is the CD for you. Great holiday gift.
CB is such a wonderful piece of my evening... There is nothing better than listening to the sweet melodic sounds of a masterful horn after a long days work. Most relaxing! Bravo my friend... Bravo...
During this time, everything is rush rush rush but listening to this cd really puts a mellow christmas spirit. Thank you Chris
This has fast become my favorite holiday album; smooth, not interfering, but adding texture in the background to whatever you may be doing this holiday season.
Great album - Christmas music from a master musician and his cronies. the best, don't miss this album.
Purchased it but songs did not downloaded. I was confused on what is going on! However, after refresh, all songs was downloaded. Awesome! Magnificent music!!! I’m suggesting this album to everyone!
I received this cd as a gift last Christmas. If you're into schlock, this album is for you.

December is a great album. It is not as good as some of Chris Botti's albums I own. However, it is still very good and I would recommend it too anyone. I love this musician's music. Can't get enough of that jazz.
my thanks to Chris Botti and his gang for giving me the groove while holiday baking. baked cookies during the entire album!
As with Botti's other recordings, I love his trumpet playing but find the arrangements lacking substance. The words "cheesy" comes to mind as does "computer-generated." On the rare instances when Botti plays a piece that's nicely arranged and sounds as if there are actually other musicians accompanying him some pretty nice music is created.
Awesome Christmas cd, albeit a bit melancholy. His version of Ave Maria is hauntingly Botti-ful.

December is the twelfth and final month of the year in the Julian and Gregorian calendars. Its length is 31 days. December's name derives from the Latin word decem (meaning ten) because it was originally the tenth month of the year in the calendar of Romulus c. 750 BC, which began in March. The winter days following December were not included as part of any month. Later, the months of January and February were created out of the monthless period and added to the beginning of the calendar, but December retained its name. In Ancient Rome, as one of the four Agonalia, this day in honour of Sol Indiges was held on December 11, as was Septimontium. Dies natalis (birthday) was held at the temple of Tellus on December 13, Consualia was held on December 15, Saturnalia was held December 17–23, Opiconsivia was held on December 19, Divalia was held on December 21, Larentalia was held on December 23, and the dies natalis of Sol Invictus was held on December 25. These dates do not correspond to the modern Gregorian calendar. The Anglo-Saxons referred to December–January as Ġēolamonaþ (modern English: "Yule month"). The French Republican Calendar contained December within the months of Frimaire and Nivôse.
