Jill Scott is back and doing her funky thang. I love the collab with Al Jarreau and George Benson, too smooth. I live in Miami where the weather is right for driving with the windows down and feeling the cool breeze as the smooth beat of Jill and friends plays.
REAL MUSIC
This is one of Jill's best, Each song is really cool. I love it!
The rave reviews here are totally justified. This is without question one of the best ten albums I have ever purchased. Her vocals are perfection whether she's backing Lupe Fiasco or Common on a hip-hop groove, showcasing her scatting ability on "Kingdom Come," or taking on the delicate and romantic "One Time." Yes, the beats are fairly slow and several tracks are available on other albums, but if you want an introduction to one of the best female soul artists working today this whole album is sure to please.
Awesome work by Jill Scott & Co. No fluff this is the real thing!
So sorry...but this is not the best of Jill.....not in the least. The only two songs that I liked were with Eric Roberson (an old song) and Chris Botti. Jill always does this to me. Her first album, I devoured. Her second, the double set, live album with the studio album....I gave away. Then Beautifully Human was just heavenly....now this! All I can say is that I am really looking forward to what she releases next. If this pattern keeps up....the next album has got to be all of dat! Love you Jill....but not feeling this one sweetie.
love it!!!! love jill scott, its easy listening.
Kingdom Come is very old! That track comes from the movie soundtrack Kingdom Come. The sound track is awesome. iTunes does not have it which is a bummer! Jill however is smooth as usual. The collabs are fun.
Music is so soothing when it come out of Jill's Mouth.
I love Jill...She makes my soul sing..This woman is a wonderful!!
This sista has so much talent and vertisility she could sing the phone book and I'd buy it. A Real Woman, with Real Soul in a paris hilton world. Thank God for you.
I wish there was more albums like this. And Will Smith makes an AMAZING comeback in this album too.
So many musical variations, so much talent, so much rhythm. This is one of the best CD's I have heard in the last year. The collaborations reveals the flexiability of Jill, and the variations of artist validates how she is respected within the music industry. This CD takes me to another place other than my livingroom. Two fist held high for Jill Scott, you rejuvinated my soul!
When Jill is the main feature on the songs, it's awesome. Her voice and interpretation continues to be one of the best in the R&B/Soul world. God Bless the Child (w/ George Benson and Al Jarreau) is amazing, as is Sometimes I Wonder (w/ Darius Rucker). But I'm reluctantly giving this one 4 stars due (it should be 5) to the fact that she's basically missing from several songs when rappers pretty much take over. I feel that Jill's audience may not be so into rap, so I'm curious about this choice - but that's just me. Another reviewer said buy the songs, not the whole album - I agree. If you're into rap, buy the album, otherwise you'll want to pick and choose.
I was just thinking the other day of what we need and I thought another Jill Scott CD. Although a few of these songs have been previously released. Anything with JS is on point, well thought out and truly has the feel of a real artist to it, not just some person trying to turn a buck!!! Listening to her music can't but help but make you happy, blessed, inspired. Soul is the ability to change people around you through your actions and JS does that with her soulful music. One Love.
I like som of her songs but i think the cover gives a different thought about her music
Jill, you may as well get used to hearing that. She has such a great voice. I couldn't download it fast enough...This is truly GRAMMY MATERIAL. She is deserving of the highest honors for giving us some of the greatest music ever. You are truly a gift from God...
Good Morning Heartache is a very slow, jazzy song. Love Rain (Coffee Shop Mix) is my favorite on here, because it definitely added a little something special to the original. 8 Minutes to Sunrise is lovely; Jill's voice beautifully fades in and out underneath Common's raps.
❤️
Have been coming back to see if there was anything new by her!!! And there she goes!!! This is a great mix of styles and musicians!! And Jill!!! She is just splendid!!!
I've always been impressed by Jill, and I've been waiting for her to come out with something new since I saw her perform live this summer. This album is hot. Personally I didn't get all of the songs...not a big fan of will smith or kirk franklin, but the choice is yours.
Great album. Favs: Love Rain (Head Nod Mix); Said Enough, Good Morning Heartache, Sometimes I Wonder & Funky for You. Note that each song varies greatly. The only drawback from me purchasing the entire album: I have half the songs. If you're a big Jill fan, chances are. you do too. But it's nice to fill in the gaps...Erykah should do something similar.... Furthermore, I believe that the individuals giving this albums poor remarks may not either understand Jill and her art or fail to understand this isn't a new release of music. It is more of a compilation of collaborative works over time. So to those who say 'what happened?'...this album is to say she never left. Kudos to Jill! And to R. Boogie's point, Complexity was HOT and should've definitely made the album....
Very disappointed. Not nearly as good as her last project. Too much rapping on it.
Sophisticated. Groovin. Jazz. Hip Hop. Chill. Love my Jill . . .
Jill Scott has done it again. Just get it, you'll love her too!!!
Five Stars One of Her best albums. I hope there is more to come!
Honestly, this album/CD is a huge disappointment. Jill Scott is the essence of beauty, spirituality, and sensuality. Jill Scott is capable of inspiring the poor, uneducated, disheartened urbanites who the world views as a cancerous society. Unfortunately, this album is both a waste of time and money. No longer are we deciphering her lyrics as the Old Testament or Koran, and incorporating them into our daily lives to become better individuals. We are now forced to listen to second-rate pop/rap tunes. If only iTunes gave refunds! Jill we need you. Come back home and inspire the forgotten. Ezra
Jill Scott shows versatility, and pure, unadulterated talent. Not only does she bring her best, but she joins with some of the best artists of various styles to create a truly rich audio experience. I like collaboration albums, and this one has me smiling inside and out. Thank you, Jill.
Jill Scott has an amazing voice on top of the artists featured in these songs. Daydreamin' is the song to buy. She has much potential in the future to be a great artist.
I love this CD 8 minutes to sunrise, and goodmorning heartache are my favorites
The entire CD is worth it just for love rain alone...but it gets better, there are two versions of the song and then there are 12 more great songs :) Definitely a worthy buy!
If you bought this album go rethink your life.
Anything that Jill Scott sings is a must buy. This is a great album and very relaxing to listen to. I will be waiting in the wind once again for another album. Thank you for real soulful music instead of a cd that has only 2 out of 15 songs that sounds worth listening to.
This collaboration is hot. Jill's voice has always been lovely but now it feels deep, sultry like the jazz sisters of her past. It's funky, fun, grown folks music. Set your player on repeat for the Lupe Fiasco track. Please Jill, give us another album with this bredth of intelligence soon
JILL SCOTT IS TRULY A PHENOMENAL VOCALIST. ALL HER MUSIC IS BEAUTIFULLY SUNG ONLY MAKING ME WANT TO LISTEN TO IT MORE OFTEN!!!!!!!!!!!
I just truly enjoy Ms. Scotts' voice. She could probably sing the "ABC" song with a Jill Scott twist and I would like it!! These collaborations are wonderful, a "must have" for your music collection.
The way our culture should produce music. This is a must buy for everyone.
I'm a Jill Fan so I'm glad to have something new from her even if it is Collabo work. But I'm still waiting with baited breath for the next drop!!! If you love Jill you'll love this compilation. Music at it's BEST.
I am elated over this compilation of collaborations with Jill Scott. I have heard 3 or 4 of the songs before, but to have them in one place is yummy. I am forever a Jill Scott fan, she is so fresh, creative, her voice melodic, harmonic etc. The album is worth the penny, nickle, and dollar.
This album is great! If you are a true Jill Scott fan go get it! I think the idea here is very creative. She takes the R&B/Soul thing to a different level with some awesome guess stars performance.
If you like Jill, you'll love this CD. Her previous release was nice, but this one is even better. She definately "collaborated" with the right artists to create this masterpiece!!!
I've read some all the reviews for this quasi-album and only a few seem to be aware that this is merely a "Greatest Hits" of all the "featuring" spots that Jill has done over the years. Daydreaming is from Lupe Fiasco's album, the Common tracks from his LPs, etc. The point of this is to put them all in one nifty little place. They should do one for Anthony Hamilton too since he pops up on EVERYTHING (and all the better!) So basically, this isn't a Jill Scott album people, and the reason why genres are bending so much (which some of you are complaining about) is because its fragmented tracks from a bunch of albums. Regardless, these are all hot tracks.
It's just not up to your potential. Loved your your first works though!! Sincerelyl
Love the album , great work. Can' find the cd at the stores so I bought it here. good things
As usual - Excellent
I'm givin' this 4 because I own so much of this, but I got it anyway. Jill singing the telephone book is a lot better than what's being shoveled down our throats as music today. She's a true artist that's genuine to her craft and will not conform for mass appeal or commercial success. GO GIRL! Anxiously awaiting the new work! GMJ
This album is sweet! Jill's mellow-soul is apparent on every track. I love this album, and I can't stop swaying to her contemporary rendition of "Good Morning Heartache." Also, her collabo with Al Jarreau & George Benson reveal both her vocal youth and her "old soul." I tell you, if she sang country music, I'd buy it! I love you, Jill...
I do not know why everyone is hating on this, I have it and like it a lot. Some of the newer songs definitely exemplify a different sound that some old Jill Scott fans might not be used to, but it is still good non the less. It is important to note that not all these songs are new. My personal favorites are "Daydreamin'" a collaboration with Lupe Fiasco & "Let Me" with Sergio Mendez. Overall this album does have a jazzy feel to it but it is very soothing and nice to listen to. I wouldn’t buy it here though for 12 dollars.
I love her! Everything from her talent vocals to her smile. :>)
