In the opening of "Silver" Nick Hexum can be heard asking his German Shepherd Bobby to stop barking. The phrase "stranger flowers" in "8:16AM" is a reference to the Jack Kerouac book On the Road. The French lyrics in "Salsa", 'Je vais à la plage parce que la guignol est chouette!', translates to 'I go to the beach because the puppet show is cool!' The track "Applied Science" is, perhaps, the most publicly appreciated song on this album. During every major live performance from the band, this track is played as the centerpiece of the entire performance and features an extended version of the original recorded drum solo, which also includes a joint-percussion section with the rest of the band. The individual drum solo has been changed every year for the band's tours. Lead singer Nick Hexum introduces the song during the show with "Now, it's time to get this whole (Mother Fucking) joint just jumpin' up to the beat!" before singing the first lyrics. Capricorn did not like the original album cover with the band's logo and album title placed at the bottom of the cover art. It was their opinion that people flipping through CD-store racks would not see the logo and title, and potential sales would therefore be lost. A second version of the cover placed an oversized logo and title in the middle of the picture. A third version was eventually released with the logo and title returning to their original size and placed at the top of the cover art. Professional Wrestler Chris Sabin uses a watered down version instrumental of the track "Offbeat Bare Ass" as his official entrance theme music. (link to youtube video featuring this version) This album and Music were the only two albums recorded live as a band, rather than the traditional studio recording technique of tracking each instrument separately, one at a time. Grassroots Wiki

A grassroots movement is one that uses the people in a given district, region or community as the basis for a political or economic movement. Grassroots movements and organizations use collective action from the local level to implement change at the local, regional, national, or international levels. Grassroots movements are associated with bottom-up, rather than top-down decision-making, and are sometimes considered more natural or spontaneous than more traditional power structures.Grassroots movements, using self-organization, encourage community members to contribute by taking responsibility and action for their community. Grassroots movements utilize a variety of strategies from fundraising and registering voters, to simply encouraging political conversation. Goals of specific movements vary and change, but the movements are consistent in their focus on increasing mass participation in politics. These political movements may begin as small and at the local level, but grassroots politics as Cornel West contends are necessary in shaping progressive politics as they bring public attention to regional political concerns. The idea of grassroots is often conflated with participatory democracy. The Port Huron Statement, a manifesto seeking a more democratic society, says that to create a more equitable society, "the grass roots of American Society" need to be the basis of civil rights and economic reform movements. The terms can be distinguished in that grassroots often refers to a specific movement or organization, whereas participatory democracy refers to the larger system of governance.
