I just discovered this Christmas gem and I love it. It has a great combination of instrumentals as well as Jose’s unmistakable vocals. Growing up near the border of Mexico, I really appreciate the Latin spin Jose puts on the traditional Christmas carols. I’ll be playing this one a lot this season, I can already tell.

"Feliz Navidad" by Jose' Feliciano, first released in 1970 by RCA Victor Latino, then released in 1989 with all of the previous tracks plus three new original songs by Feliciano, is a holiday favorite for good reason. Coming at the time it did, Feliciano's Latin approach to religious and secular Christmas favorites, and the outstanding hit "Feliz Navidad" (which, along with "Light My Fire" would mark Feliciano as a game-changer in US pop music history), became a staple around "greatest generation" and baby-boomer Christmas trees for the rest of their lives. Most folks hadn't heard outstanding Latin guitar music like this, much warmer and more inviting than classical guitar. People in Texas who would change the pronunciations of names like "Sante Fe" so that they wouldn't sound like they were speaking Spanish were suddenly singing "Feliz Navidad" to their neighbors. That's a big deal. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!
