I added this to my iTunes maybe 8-10 years ago and the cover was turned sideways and one of the tracks appeared corrupted just at the end. Got fed up and deleted from both iTunes and phone, then re-purchased. Plays perfectly and the album art is correct. As to whether this is officially an album: I'd say yes. Some of the tracks are really sequences from the film, but there are also pop hits such as "Girls and Boys", "Kiss" and should-have-been-a-hit "New Position". The slower piano pieces don't appeal to me, but others love them, so a real crowd-pleaser of an album.
This was the first Prince album I bought (let's be real, this is a Prince album with occasional mionor contributions by Revolution band members), a month after I decided I was a fan; you might say this is the honeymoon album. I take at face value, not comparing it to other albums, and it is part of the canon of Prince albums to own, even though it's more demo-like than its' three predecessors. "Sometimes It Snows In April" is the first song I ever cried to, and the opening four tracks always play like a suite. Life Can Be So Nice is one of my all-time favorite Prince songs period. And the beauty of Venus de Milo, the power of Alexa de Paris, and the extended versions of Kiss and Anotherloverholenyohead all are etched onto my psyche. I just wish the extended songs and instrumentals were on some deluxe version of this album. I wish Prince would get with the times on this. But that's beside the point. Great album, a must have if you're a Prince fan and want the full breadth.
This album was very underrated and often misunderstood. Very ambitious and different styles were the main-stay of this album. With Kiss being the first single, many thought that the rest of the album would be much of the same radio friendly tunes. Girls and Boys was the only other song to find much success on the airwaves. Many people missed out by not buying this album and tapping into songs such as the beautiful "Sometimes It Snows in April", the ever funky "Anotherloverholenyohead", and the super-funk jam of "New Position". This was the soundtrack to his second movie Under the Cherry Moon which received harsh reviews. Prince will never be mistaken for an Academy Award winning actor, but the movie was definitely artsy, funky, and fun all in one. Did you know that at one time, Prince was the only person who had ever won a Grammy and an Academy Award? Grammy was for Purple Rain and Academy Award was for the musical score for Purple Rain. He might still hold that designation today.
It's easy to lose this one in the shadow of Purple Rain. But it's great, so get it!!!
I think Prince is good if I do say my self. And Parade is one of my favorite abulms of prince and I hope you will listen to it.
This show was the BEST concert I have EVER attended and I have seen 100's. Third row, front center. Could it have gotten any better? Prince and the Revolution played 3 hours nonstop. What dedication. A true highlight to the summer I spent with my french girlfriend, (who's now my wife) traveling around europe. Young & in love. Le gosse, vous etiez magnifique! Merci beaucoup. Aimer toujours & pour toujours. William & Raphaelle
i purchased parade on vinyl when it was released in 1986. and just recently in 2010 started back listening to this album and it brought back a lot of good memories. this is perfection from beginning til the end. what also makes this album special is the movie under the cherry moon (very entertaining comedy directed by prince) when this cd came out it was very different from what was out there on mainstream radio so i understand why it was so hard for some to digest this material. but this is classic at its best. parade and under the cherry moon movie goes hand in hand i suggest checking out the movie and it will explain the musical direction of this cd. this is definitely prince's best cds in terms of being consistent from beginning til the end and stepping out of the box. the stand out tracks on here are Sometimes it snows in april, Anotherloverholenyohead, Mountains, Girls and boys, and of course kiss. Venus De Milo is a masterpiece (it makes me cry everytime i hear it especially after seeing the movie (Under the Cherry Moon)
But them all actually. Parade is a really fun album with lots of great tracks. I just picked this digital copy up cuz some of my CDs are missing. Jammed this in the car and it just sounds so great. Girls and Boys is incredible... Kiss is on here, and one of my all time favorite Prince tracks, Mountains. So good. I miss him so much already. Thank Prince we have his music to remember him by.
Some may think this album is a bit inconsistent, but for its sheer audacity of variety Parade is an artistic tour de force. Beyond Kiss and Mountains, both excellent, be sure to check out the idiosyncratic Boys and Girls; the haunting Sometimes or Snows in April; the Jazzy Under the Cherry Moon; the funky New Position; the psychedelic Christopher Tracey's Parade; and most importantly the infectious Anotherloverholenyohead. And every other song. This is de Prince's under appreciated masterpiece with the Revolution and one of the best of his career. I return to Parade and Sign o' the Times more than any others.
I know this album felt like a total reinvention of Prince’s sound, but that’s why I love it so much. The sound feel so unique and timeless, and has never been replicated since. The incomparable Claire Fischer’s string arrangements made me enjoy a whole new genre of music. Musical genius!
Amazing I love this song kiss plus I’m a girl and I’m 10 years old well this song is so good well bye💜💜🎵🎵
If you have never heard Prince before, do not get this album yet. When Prince released this in 1986, we all wondered if Prince would fade into obscurity (until he released Sign O' The Times the following year). Though this has one of Prince's most popular singles of all time, Kiss, the rest of the album is very experimental. It was as if Prince was given a large box of crayons and let loose on a blank canvas. It lurches from one style to another and is not the easiest album to access. I frankly hated it when it first came out and shelved it until the early 90's when I dated this ballerina who loved Christopher Tracy's Parade and Sometimes It Rains In April (the latter spin is one of the most beautiful ballads Prince has ever written). If you do not like this album on first listen, well that is most albums past Purple Rain. But this hidden gem is worth the work. Prince has never been a commercial artist; he is just a genius musician that does his thing with an innovative and provocative vision. Mountains is one of my favorite tracks on this album, as is April mentioned above. And who does not love Kiss with its references to the shoulder pad queens of Dynasty. Get really stoned and listen to the album.....you will love it and see it for its complexity, its brilliance, and its sheer artistry.
This album is not ranked among Prince's classic records, but it should be "Mountains," "Sometimes in Snows in April," "New Position" and "Girls & Boys" are some of His Royal Badness' best work.
I love this album. I also LOVE the movie
The B-Side to Mountains is one of my favorite tracks from the Parade sessions and it’s one of the most difficult to find. Not even on Apple Music.
not a real popular song back in the day--but excellent song and we did a routine to it in Jazzercise.
I'm a huge Prince fan (I even went to the Lovesexy tour, Prince and I go way back!) Parade is one of my favorite cd's. It blends beautifully with the Under The Cherry Moon movie, yet stands completely on it's own. Everyone fell in love with "KISS", yet I fell in love with the rest of this cd. You can't call yourself a Prince fan if you don't have Parade in your collection!
Great Song. Toooo bad the iTunes download is corrupted and the song won’t play. Worse Apple iTunes has no concern in fixing the matter. This is why I won’t pay for Apple Music. Or buy anymore music.
Prince can be a very emotional guy, and this album showcases it the most. "Sometimes it snows in April" probably rivals even "purple rain" for his most meaningful song! A great album and a great experience listening to it!
People, mostly Haters, say "Parade" was not a good album. It's not, it's a Great Album! The '80's were probably Prince's most adventurous, colorful, fearless, funky & beautiful decade in his music career. This album, like many of his great underrated albums like "Lovesexy", "Batman", "Come", "The Gold Experience", "Planet Earth" & "20Ten", etc, is Terrific! Different than the album before & after. With an experimental sound that's so gorgeous & funky. From start 2 finish. "Parade" is just that, a musical parade. I Love Prince! And have been a closet fan since his 2nd album, "Prince" & a true believer since "1999". I hope & pray mainstream America & the rest of the brainwashed music fans who have been lied to & made to believe Prince is some nut come 2 realize He's not. He's just a man who loves his art. He loves making fantastic diverse music & if U give him a chance, if U give him a good listen, U'll find yourself a Prince fan wanting more & more. Wondering why U listened to all those Haters & not your own ears & heart. Prince is the True King of Rock & Roll, R&B, Soul, Funk & Pop...He is Music!
The greatest of all time
❤️
I’ve always loved Prince since he first came out such and amazing singer, writer, producer, musician, etc I can truly say I remember when Under The Cherry Moon came out it was not such a good movie I was told didn’t go see it,the only song I remember from this album was Kiss I always loved that song.Sometimes it Snow in April is epic never new or heard of this song until he died really fell in love with this song.some others good song on this album to.i know and love most of Prince known hits but a lot of his songs like others just discovering them after he died, they are amazing songs.....he is really missed from this realm in life,I feel so so sad every time I think of him not being here anymore on this earth but he in God care now no more pain....rest in perfect peace Prince we love and miss you,I wish you knew how much you was loved I think you do.🎤🎸🎶☔️🌹💜🥁🎹🌈🕊🕊🙏😥
I remember going to see the film on opening night. There was no crowd. Just us girls. What a musical of poetry, comedy, design and beautiful people. Definitely an underrated album. Truly a masterpiece! ✌🏽
This is a hidden gem amongst Prince's vast discography. IMO, I think it's a great album. All of the songs are reach outstanding in their own way. I particularly enjoyed the musical stylings of the songs "New Position" " Girls & Boys" I highly recommend this album to any Price fan. This album is evidently a treasure within itself.
I'm the biggest prince fan know to man just because I'm 13 don't mean nothing I love parade the black album crystal ball I love those albums but parade was the well done works of your music either it's from the funky jams if new power soul to the loud fun up beat sounds of graffiti bridge I love parade
Best song ever!
This album was a hit. Prince also gives great concerts.
Prince’s parallel to Sly’s “Fresh”album....sparse and sublime...Bravo!
This is a step-up for Around the World In a Day.
The movie was really good, makes me like the soundtrack more.
Love this album (girls and boys is my fave) and i know im one of few, but i love this movie too!
I couldn't agree more with Johnny's assessment that this album is both underrated and misunderstood. "Mountains" is a terrific song, as well as the others mentioned. However, the Grammy/Oscar facts are way off. Many artists (Bruce Springsteen, Barbra Streisand, Phil Collins among them) have earned both Grammy's and Oscars. Rita Moreno (yes, the Electric Compnay lady) holds the entertainment Grand Slam with a Tony, Oscar, Grammy and Emmy.
Prince you need to realese mountains (extended version) 10:03 on Itunes.
Yeah I said it. The solo from Purple Rain is untouchable but Parade is a more consistent album, the kind you can put on shuffle and have a good time with.
This album is perfect. There isn’t one track that is throw away. Prince and the Revolution proved once again what a strong band they were. Add this to your collection ❤️
Awesomeness at its finest
This is one of my favorites! From track 1-12!!!
Prince's true masterpiece. Beautifully crafted, authentic, free and elegant. No pandering to charts or tastes of the day. Ultra focused and minimalistic.
This is when people started pulling away from him as fans. It is sad really because they felt they his music was too dramatically different from his previous work up until this point. Fans often forget that most artist are out there to express themselves through their art, unlike most pop stars who are only out there for a buck. I've always enjoyed Prince's artistic endevours and relish his different approaches to music and entertainment. I love this albulm even though it is so far from the approach that he took with Purple Rain and his other work. He keeps it fresh that way.
Upbeat, positive music that makes you want to dance. What an amazing special best gift, to give the world, but the desire... to dance. Thank you Mr. Prince Daniel Hallmark, the Plumber.
Simply: my favorite album. I love every single song. We all should be grateful to have experienced his/Prince's artistry in our lifetime.
I had forgot about this album the music is kind of out there but I like that. Prince music takes me back to my good ol days when I was young.
