Just a real smooth album. All around beautiful music. Just buy it and make a friend buy it too. We all need a little more of this instead of the abuse our eardrums are taking these days. If you're looking at this for no reason…. Listen to Lions of Hip Hop first, find that Ms. Hill track and listen to the Quality album too. I don't know how more people don't praise this, especially after being on Chappelle's Show. Where's the love.
Hands down this is Kweli's best album. The lyrics are great and the beats are great. He spits flames and chills on a more introspective tip. The cd is diverse, but not so much that he loses his identity and more important the listener. I like Kweli but the thing that was missing from his other projects (after Reflection Eternal) is consistancy. The others were cool, but they would have some tracks that were just okay and it would slow everything else down. Ear Drum is the album that I have been waiting for since RE. Support the real!
this album is fresh, tight and quality and happens to be my favorite album on my ipod, for it's forever in rotation. Talib Kweli inspires us to listen and to see things through different perspectives. Without his music, I wouldn't have been able to get through some rough times. I love you Talib Kweli. say Amen to his music cuz it touches deep and rejuvenates the soul. Every song is pure quality and his lyrics are incredible with tight beats. PEACE.
Kweli is most certainly not "irrelevant" - the only thing he's guilty of is speaking the truth when people would rather listen to over-synthed beats and hear about Apple Bottoms. Ear Drum's not his best album, but Hostile Gospel is absolutely fantastic - that made it worth my $10 by itself! Some other hot tracks: Say Something In the Mood More Or Less Hot Thing Perfect Beat Listen
I feel bad to say that i'm just startin to listen to Talib Kweli. I always known he was a good rapper but i never showed any respect to him. I dont wanna sound like one of those dudes that hop on the band wagon when someone starts to get a lil more fame. But i gotta say this might be my favorite album so far this year. I like the fact that i have to keep my finger on the rewind button just to get the full effect of what he says. In short.... Its worth your money. BUY IT!!!!!!
kwelis lyrically on of the best rappers in the game... but scince everyone is stuck on that weezy sh!# on the radio rappers like kweli dont get as much credit as they deserve!
As an editor of scholarly publications and avid music connoisseur, I find the review of this album very biased and largely inaccurate. I believe the editor’s job is to provide information, not opinion and criticism about what you feel the artist “should” be doing. Please be more professional. In addition, how can one be produced by Kanye, Pete Rock, Just Blaze, Madlib, & Hi-Tek and yet “suffer from a dearth of good beats” I agree that conscious rappers are often trapped in the basement when it comes to listenability, but that is not accurate in this instance.
Talib has a sound like no other with his unique beat and style. Nice change of pace in this current auto-tune rap world.
THA WHOLE ALBUM IS GOOD IT SHOULD BE MORE DEN 5 STARS DO WE HAVE A TEN BUY IT AND DIS IS JUS SO GOOD I LISTEN TO AT LEAST ONCE A DAY THA WHOLE ALBUM MY FAVIORATE OUT OF ALL OF EM IS 2.HOSTILE GOSPEL CUZ DA BEAT AND LYRICS ARE CRAZY ESPECIALLY THA BEAT.
this easily could be the best rap album in the 21st century! 20 SONGS.
Talib Kweli drops another great album. Every song on it is good. If u dont have it get it.
Great beats, great lyrics.
Outstanding project
Anybody who's reading this and likes Talib Kweli's work should Google "Yes We Can Mixtape." The first track is a remix of nas's Black President with Talib Kweli. Check it out! If you think it's dope click yes.
Talin Kweli is one of the greatest rappers of all time in my book. His lyrics and words have so much meaning and you have to be thinking deep while listening. Best songs: Hostile Gospel Pt 1, Soon the New Day, among just a few. You gotta get this album, it's of the hook, it's all that, trust me...
Haters got anything else to say? Not really...Kweli is back, and he really brought his A game. They say with age comes wisdom, but in Kweli's case, it has been both wisdom and ability. The man can spit like nobody's business, especially about relevant subject-matter, and he has accompanied his rhymes with some solid beats. While his lyrical talent has saved him in the past, despite average beats, there is nothing to critique about this album. I flat out love Eardrum, and I think it deserves huge recognition. Kweli is the torch-holder of real hip-hop, and he needs to be embraced by the rest of the world and the true lyrical talent and genius that he is...represent the BK TK, 5/5
Who wrote that iTunes review? How can you say Talib is "tiring"? Whoever it was knows nothing about rap or quality, and they should be fired. Yes, it's not his best album, but he's still one of the best out there. Period. Go Lupe
Talib Kwali is a 10/10 rapper he speaks the true about his life and is a realli awesome rapper, and so is Drake
I bought the actual CD from an underground record store for 8.99. It's not the absolute best album I've heard, but I am really pleased with it. This album's got a lot of heart and soul, with Kweli's great lyrics & flow (although sometimes I have to strain a little to hear and understand his words), and with guests like UGK, KRS One, and Roy Ayers. Some of my favourites are Space Fruit, Country Cousins, and Stay Around.
love this album!
I'm glad that talib is getting good reviews from iTunes. I agree with the other reviewers that he needs to come out with another Blackstar album. Favorite tracks Everything Man Hostile Gospel part 1 and 2 Say something Country Cousins In the Mood More or Less Hot thing The Perfect Beat listen Stay Around
Dude hes one of the few rappers that are givin hip hop a chance at life cuz people like soulja boy arent gonna help anything
I'm still waiting for Kweli to drop the sickest album in rap history, but while we all wait, this album is pretty damn good. There are definitely some sick, sick tracks on this album. Hostile Gospel, Pt. 1 is easily Kweli's best song, with sick lyrics, and a HOT beat, as he raps about a lot of political issues etc. Other sweet songs are: Holy Moly, In the Mood, More or Less, Hot Thing, Listen!, and Hostile Gospel, pt. 2 Overall, I'd say this is Kweli's best album yet and it is straight FIRE!
It sounds promising but can't purchase it because it's always being modified..grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!
Kweli is underrated. This album is hot! The production is fantastic. All of the guests appearances are timely. As usual, Kweli delivers with solid rhymes about life, not this bling bling mess that's destroyed the genre.
this, I believe is Talib's best album yet, deffinately worth the money, can't wait for the new album, already heard a song called Long Life. Keep doing what you do Talib!
This is the first cd I got where i had never heard any of the songs. I gotta admit this didnt disapoint. Its a very laid back, smooth album. You gotta like the direction Talib is going in.
It's Talib's worst CD by far though. Buy "The Beautiful Struggle" or "Quality" instead.
This album is the best album yet from Talib Kweli. The most underrated rapper has definitly put the current rappers to shame. From beginning to end, this is the best rap albums. This should be the best albums of all times.
He speaks the truth and represents what Hip-Hop should sound like. Rappers like Lil Wayne & Gucci Mane are garbage and are just simply degrading. The music world needs more Kweli, Kid Cudi, Lupe Fiasco, & Wale.
This is truly great music. As an album it's not as good because all the songs sound to much alike but I'm apparently the only person who thinks that. If you like to use the shuffle feature than this is a great buy.
All I got to say people need to forget about the fake an recognize the real that's what happen to hip hop
First of all I think I spelled his name wrong in my first review on accident, anyway i meant to put Talib. Second, if you like albums like this try: Don't Quit Your Day Job(Consequence) Nas(Nas) Paper Trail(T.I.) Peace
This is a work of art. Beautifully crafted, a reality check in it's best form ever! If you haven't gotten the album yet, you need to hurry up! Talib, thank you for such a beautiful gift!
Just about everything he put's his hands on comes out well. Talib is an excellent artist, and this is a great album with some soild tracks. I'd recommend it to anyone.
I'm a late-comer to the Kweli madness so I may show a little ignorance but...this is one of the best albums I've heard in a while. I don't know exactly how his previous albums sound, but if it's anything like this I will have to backtrack and jump on the bandwagon. It's worth the buy...well, it's priceless. I just happen to buy it at a price.
This is real hiphop right here Kweli bringing it back with this hot album
1. Everything Man: Great track, the "Feel the heartbeat." verse is very good! 5/5 2. NY Weather Report: Love the flow, another good track! 5/5 3. Hostile Gospel Part 1: Another great song. Amazing lyrics. Is a bit long though. 4.9/5 4.Say Something: I don't know, Jean Grae's lyrics don't really cut it for me. 3.5/5 5. Country Cousins: Soulful, and good artists. In the Mood : Good song, except for Kanye's. I just don't like it. 4/5 9. Soon the New Day: In my opinion, best track on the album. Norah Jones and Kweli are a perfect collab. 10/5 10. This is some of the happiest music I've ever heard and I still can't stop bumping it. If the New York rap scene has proven anything its that with age comes skill and thankfully we've got surpluses of it. BLACKSTAR NEEDS TO GET BACK TOGETHER!
God awful, don't waste your time or money
Talib Kweli is no doubt about it, the best rapper alive. 100% of his music is legit and all contain insane beats with even better lyrics! Keep it up Talib!!
But why can I buy it!!!
i am part black
For as long as I have lived, I have never heard something so refreshing, Graceful, someone with unamaginable talent, Talib Kweli has come a long way and he has not forget every step of the way and continues to impress me in every level, so talented and respectful, the is real rap, i can play this on the train, at work, going to school, anwhere, much respect to this album, Kweli is truly for the people, he makes me proud to like rap.
This is a great, amazing album, just dipped in excellence. I love it to death, it is the only music I have been listening to for 3 days straight. I am not a big fan of hip hop/rap and stuff like that, but Talib Kweli is one of the exceptions. He is truly amazing and this album is the perfect example of how good he is. He speaks the truth, makes sweet songs, and makes a good point and makes you just euphoric. This music gives me a music high. I am so happy, one of the best purchases I have ever made. If you don't want the whole album, at least get a few songs, even 3 of them will make you truly happy. My favorites are Hostile Gospel pt 1, Country Cousins, Hot Thing, Listen! and Stay Around. I hope Talib keeps making great music like this, and i could ramble on forever, but i am truly happy. ENJOY THIS!
TERRIBLE
I mean this album is really sick. I rarely submit a review but when I heard the whole album, I had the idea to come here and make this review, because I reallly liked the album. I bought the Explicit Version. I Give 8.5 outta 10. I really love it.
I have to use a line from Phonte of justice league(another real poet) because It popped in my head. "I don't think it, I just do it- My people sayin -I must doit cuz all ni**az make is love songs and drug music" Amen brothers! The only song I don't like is Country Cousins.
Talib Kweli is one of the best rappers ever. He continues to prove it with this album, its consistency makes it a classic. I put this album on and listen to it straight through. This is a must have.
This album has been gaining alot of popularity but you guys have obviously only cared about lyrics. Hip-Hop is also about the beat and music. And as far as im concerned there is no music and very boring claps in most of these songs. Music (1/10) very pathetic. Thats all i can say. After hearing the first half, i really struggled when i heard this was doing very well. If you call this music, go and switch on some Soulja Boy, you could learn some music of that lad (sarcasm for you high raters). Lyrics (5.5/10) Of course the one thing that is found remarkable in this man. He is able to make nice stories in these songs. However, i have heard many reviews about people saying hip-hop's lyrics are meant to talk about enjoyable things. Most of these songs arent about such topics, therefore it doesnt get 10. Beats (2/10) Very pathetic, just hand claps. "Hot Thing" is about the only song with some other beat, but it is still annoying. Overall i have to give this 1 star. Albums i do recomment are: Ultimate Victory by Chammilionare Graduation by KanYe West Mail On Sunday by Flo Rida (I know you dont consider it real hip hop, but this has everything for a good album, except a bit low on lyrics) T.I. Vs. T.I.P. by T.I. King by T.I.

This album came out a week before 50Cent and Kanye's and for me this outshines both of them. Just listen to NY Weather Report and Country Cousin to see for your self. Top tunes man. Check out in the Mood and Hot Thing also. In fact check out the video for Hot Thing if you can find it, very clever video. This man is on it. Buy it.
Talib does it again. Another great album!
Eardrum is a great album. Filled with beats from many credible producers (such as Hi-Tek, Pete Rock, Just Blaze & Madlib) and original lyrics this album is a must buy. Easily one of the top albums of 2007. It's hard to pick a best out of all the tracks but hot thing would come very close.
fresh & tight just how we like it, great beats maybe to many collaborations but his style still come thru strong. a great buy!!!!
I have to agree the albulm is fresh sounding and his lyrics are tight and every song delivers. Hot Thing is awesome. Overall a good listen beats sitting in traffic listening to radio neway! His earlier stuff is cool too. Check it out. Release your inner gangsta lol.

In the anatomy of humans and various other tetrapods, the eardrum, also called the tympanic membrane or myringa, is a thin, cone-shaped membrane that separates the external ear from the middle ear. Its function is to transmit changes in pressure of sound from the air to the ossicles inside the middle ear, and thence to the oval window in the fluid-filled cochlea. The ear thereby converts and amplifies vibration in the air to vibration in cochlear fluid. The malleus bone bridges the gap between the eardrum and the other ossicles. Rupture or perforation of the eardrum can lead to conductive hearing loss. Collapse or retraction of the eardrum can cause conductive hearing loss or cholesteatoma.
