Judas Priest - Nostradamus

About Nostradamus by Judas Priest Album

Nostradamus is the 16th studio album by Judas Priest. It is a concept album, focusing on the 16th century prophet Nostradamus. The band's first concept album, it was originally intended to be released in late 2006 before being pushed back to a 2007 release, and was finally released in June 2008 on Epic Records. It is also the band's 16th studio album to date. Judas Priest toured with Motörhead, Heaven and Hell, and Testament on the Metal Masters Tour to promote Nostradamus. Guitarist K. K. Downing revealed in a February 2007 interview with Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles that 18 tracks had been recorded with a total length of more than 90 minutes and that there was not much he would like to cut down. Musically, the album contains symphonic orchestrations including the use of keyboards and choirs which is unlike anything the band has previously attempted. In November 2007 the band began mixing the album. In November 2007, singer Rob Halford indicated that it was still undecided whether it would be a double-disc set or not. In April 2008, it was confirmed that the album would be released as a double-CD/triple vinyl LP. According to Billboard.com, the album was released in Europe on June 16, 2008 and June 17 in United States. Three configurations of Nostradamus have been issued. The most common is a regular jewel-cased double CD, but there is also a "CD deluxe hardbound version," which features a 48-page booklet, while a "super deluxe version" includes three vinyl records (in addition to the CD deluxe packaging, plus a poster). The title track was released on April 12, 2008 as a free download on Judas Priest's website through Epic Records. The second single "Visions" would be released on May 4, 2008. On June 11 and 12, 2008, the album was allowed to be streamed in its entirety on VH1's "The Leak" website. The title track was nominated for "Best Metal Performance" at the 50th Grammy Awards, but lost to Metallica's "My Apocalypse". Nostradamus centres on the life and times of the prophet. The first disc details various prophecies he has about the future and the end of the world. This leads to him being exiled. Later on, after his death, the world realises just how right he was.

Absolutely awful. This may be one of the worst albums of all time. It is Spinal Tap worthy. As a Priest fan for almost 40 years this album is by far their low point. There are no good songs. Every song attempts to be an epic but fails miserably. The lyrics are pure cheese and the album goes nowhere but takes an 1 hour and 40 minutes to do it.

- WOW!

Been a fan since 82 and this is my favourite Priest album to date. Alone rocks! I love Exiled! The Future of Mankind!!!! Pestilence and Plague!!!!! Persecution!!!!! Revelations!!!! Rock the Priest forever people!

- Judas Priest

I grew up on this band. Love and respect thier music but I utterly hate this. This is almost as bad as Turbo Lover.

- WOW!

What an amazing album!

- Way better than the other '08 metal albums

We were all expecting something this album didn't deliver when we first listened to it. As a result of the drastic shock, fans of the mighty Priest have been divided. I proudly wave the flag as a supporter of this incredible work. When I first heard the itunes sample of Nostradamus and Visions, before the album was released, I was still a relatively new fan, and had no idea what to expect. But even if I was a devoted fan at the time, I would not have predicted this. Judas Priest outdid themselves on this album. If you really pay attention, you can hear hints and allusions to just about every album they have released thus far in these 23 songs, dating even back to their debut, Rocka Rolla. These songs aren't just heavy metal, they are deep, provoking pieces of ingenius musicianship that have the power to impact forever. The less devoted fans will likely only enjoy such songs as Nostradamus, Visions, Persecution, and maybe Prophecy. Some might like Death too. Now, to all you who choose to trash talk this album, about its heavy use of keyboards and strings and such, remember that the magic of Judas Priest is that they continue to try new things. If you can't accept that, you're not a real fan. The album's melodious presence is its greatest asset, but it has many. It combines the art of heavy metal, with which these guys are so familiar with already, with the wide world and imagination of symphony and orchestral evidence. The album's most popular songs are mostly its best, but if I were you I would give the whole 2-disc journey a good listen. Otherwise, you don't get to fully appreciate its depth. My personal favorite would have to be the album closer (I love the solo!) but Death, War, and Alone are all very good as well. Please buy this album. It's a music experience you won't forget

- 3 Of best JP songs ever on one album

Nostradamus, Death, and War. All u need to know

- Not the best

I think older judas priest was better, with all of their classics, etc. I think they changed too much and nobody could beat that.

- Too big?

No doubt this is an outstanding album, but it is so dense and diverse I haven't yet had the patience to listen to it all in one sitting. Admittedly I'm sure Priest deserves more respect for this album than I have so far given them. Definitely good songs if you don't mind listening to all the orchestral filler and buildup.

- Best Album Yet?

I believe that Nostradamus is the best Judas Priest album to ever be released!!! It features more than meets the eye and brings a very unique feel to metal as we know it. This album is full of melodic symphonies and hardcore riffs just like Priest should be. The album expresses the feelings that may be posed about the 2012 "end of the world" event that philosopher Nostradamus predicted along with other ancient civilizations. This erie topic creates a one-of-a-kind album that features not only very serious and distrought emotions, but also a crazy side that brings Judas Priest back to the top. Songs like Persecution and Nostradamus will make the hair on your neck stand up... not only because it is great musically (possesing amazing riffs and instrumental talent), but because of the sort of evil and condecending side of the lyrics and what they mean. Songs like Lost Love and New Beginings are very melodic and almost sadening, but great. And finally, songs like Future of Mankind, Exile, and Visions bring a very dramatic feel to the music. THIS ALBUM IS LIKE NOTHING YOU HAVE EVER HEARD... IN A GOOD WAY(A VERY GOOD WAY). IT POSSESES DRAMA, SADNESS, SPINE TINGLING LYRICS, AMAZING INSTRUMENTAL PERFORMANCES, AND SHOWS A SIDE OF JUDAS PRIEST AND ROB HALFORD THAT YOU NEVER EXPECTED...5 STARS!!! A TRUE METAL EXPERIENCE THAT ANY TRUE METALHEAD CANNOT MISS!!!

- EPIC!

Wow! JP really surprised me on this one. This is a bottom of the ninth walk off grand slam! Bravo for the courage to step out and do a concept album of this magnitutde. Lots of planning and thought went into this. This is not British Steel, but a mature, progressive masterpiece. The lyrics and shift in tempos really draw you in to the story. A+ for creativity on this one.

- Not Good!!!!!!

This album just doesn't do it for me, sorry guys. I still love me some of the old Priest though, but this album in my opinion just isn't any good.

- Fantastic

All I can say is that this album is fantastic in so many ways. Some may complain about a loss of the classic sound but remember this is a concept album, the sound changed to fit the concept and I say bravo, it has an immense amount of depth and I applaud Judas Priest on their amazing work of art that is Nostradamus.

- Nostril-damus

It's a good soundtrack for nose-picking. First: I LOVE "Angel of Retribution." I even love "Loch Ness" from that album...but I thought at 14 minutes that Rob must have been hanging out backstage with Bruce Dickinson too often. I mean, it's a big double wheel of Maidenish concept-gouda, that. So I thought it might be great...to make...a double-album of concept...songs...er, what was I thinking? This comes across as a kind of mincing Broadway musical with leather-studded gloves on. In other words, it's dreadfully dull, and not even interesting in a cheezy "prog-rock" kind of way. I wish I could say I don't hate it, because I love Judas Priest.

- I Love it!!

Trust me, takes a few listens but once you get to that point of familiarity w/ the tunes, the epic genius is obvious and astounding!! No, its not Screaming or British Steel, but who cares?! I want my music to progress a bit while still retaining its true metal roots and style which this does nicely only now, the lyrics and song structure are even better!! This is a true concept album as the whole is greater than the sum of its parts!! I am very pleased and love this album very much!!

- Awesome

Just by listening to the previews I knew this was good, it's kind of like a mix between Dream Theater, Nightwish, and Helloween(which were my favorite bands until I began listening to Judas Priest) and I like that, this may be the next CD I get :P

- Nastradamus

Wow i didn't even know Priest put out a new album, and i have not heard anything from it, but when it comes to Rob Halford's vocals I don't need to hear it, I know it will be just like all the rest of their music, the best of the best. oh by the way I'm buying the new album on iTunes as we speak. I've seen them live three times and they have never let me down, always put on a great show. There hasn't been a vocalist that could ever met or beat rob's range of power, high and low notes. HE IS THE BEST OF THE BEST. I just want to say thanks to JUDAS PREIST for putting this new album out there for all of us real Metal Heads. Wow I haven't said those words in 15 yrs.

- lets start off with the fact that im 16.

i'm way into metal. i love JP, Maiden, Megadeth, kinda Metallica, basicly anything I can bang my head to. even though this album can get boring (in a teenager with ADDs opinion) its songs like prophecy,Sands of Time, Pestilence and Plague,Death, Persecution (my favorite right next to the title track), Visions, Calm Before the Storm, Nostradamus, and Future of mankind that make this album amazing. They didn't deviate completly from their style which is more than I can say for most Metal bands. Persecution and Nostradamus are awesome tracks that Halford really gets to do some vocal showing off in.

- J.P.'S Concept Album Just As Good As Pink Floyd The Wall!

As someone who loves music I think it is awesome to hear the diversity Judast Preist demonstrates on this album. I honestly believe that if this record had enough exposure and our rocker buddies weren't considered to be so heavy that Nostradamus could easily excell as much as Pink Floyd's The Wall. My I-pod has been pretty complacent lately but after recently seening a special on VH-1 Classic about Nostradamus I decided to give this record a try. I'm so happy I did! Nostradamus is nothing short of rejuvenating! I've only downloaded it about a week ago and this album gets better everytime I hear it! Hey fellas, How about Nostradamus The Musical on Broadway?

- Hated love it!

First time I listend to this album, I thought it was the worse thing Priest had ever done. But I gotta say after hearing it after about 3 times, I just love this album. Rob sounds amazing, the band sounds great, and I love the feel of the whole thing. It takes getting used to because it is very different than the normal Priest album, but if you just listen to it without wanting a remake of British Steel, then you will probably love this album. Some songs I admit should have been omited, but overall this thing rocks! Give it a listen, you won't be dissapointed.

- They could do anything

I recall reading a story where Deep Purple's former guitarist Ritchie Blackmore said to his band mates after listening to Judas Priest rehearse that they (Deep Purple) needed to practice more. Paraphrasing, but Ritchie, Guitar Mag's rated top 10 guitarist of all time, saw something in these gents, spot on delivery, fantastic musicianship, and for over 30 years I've always wanted to see Judas try something like this, and they delivered, good deal for the $.

- I am Nostrodomas

This is one of JPs best records ever

- Is it Judas or is it Priest?

I will not lie. I'm a young chap. I'll be 20 in four months. I haven't been around since these guys began. In fact, I was introduced to them through Nightcrawler, which someone foolisy made into a AMV with that Blue Guy from X-Men. Don't Get me wrong, I was instantly hooked. I Bought The Essentials album, and while I liked "Out in The Cold" as much as I liked "Hell Bent For leather", I still prefer the heavier, faster, thrashing sound. That Said, here's my veiw of the album; If you are looking for a lot of stuff like their songs "Demonizer" or "Nightcrawler" or "Metal Meltdown" This is NOT the Priest you are looking for. Get British Steel, or Painkiller or even The Essential Judas Priest album. If you want originality and level music that rocks hard, but the sooths, rather than revs you up, then this IS the album for you. It's a toned down and spiritual album. A work of art none the less, but you won't find too much thrash in Nostradamus.

- Great concept album

I’ve known about this album for over a decade, but for whatever reason never picked it up. That was a mistake. Great concept album unlike anything you’ve ever heard from Judas Priest. It’s worth a listen.

- Eh

There was good and there was bad. This is not where you want to start off with Priest. This is an album for fans that have listened to all their music and respect the band, then you can enjoy the album more. And for you posers complaining about Judas Priest using pianos, which is an organ actually, why don't you go listen to one of their best albums, Sad Wings of Destiny, one of their best albums that also has many piano intros.

- An interesting experiment.

If you are looking for pure heavy metal and classic sounding Priest, I do not advise you to buy this. If you like more symphonic metal and are open to a different sound, I think you should listen to a few of the songs before you buy the entire album, as it really is a love it or hate it type of sound. Personally, I think it freaking rocks, but it is a bit of an acquired taste.

- Not bad, but I think this should be the only concept album...

This album is somewhat decent for what it's supposed to be: a concept album. The problem I have is not even to do with the lyrics or the theme or anything of that nature; it's the pacing. Simply put, things really start to drag after about half an hour, and by the time I had finished listening to the album the first time, I had found myself trying to remember what I had listened to. Many tracks end up being forgettable simply because they dont have any real cohesiveness to them for the most part due to one thing: Ambient sound. Ambient sound is what kills my enjoyment of this album. The album has several tracks with what feels like up to two minutes of ambiance before any of the actual song you want to hear begins. This would be fine if the album didn't have twenty three three tracks, but it does, and the ambience ends up being at least a quarter of the running time. Don't get me wrong, it's not terrible, or even really bad... but it doesn't feel like Priest. As a true fan, I have to say what I feel and I don't feel it's up to par with Angel of Retribution or any of the Halford Era material prior to that. AoR was a strong comeback album (even the longest track on there, lochness, was pretty good), but I feel that at this point they could out do it easily with new blood possibly injecting some inspiration into the formula.

- Woah

I'm not gonna lie. I am not a big Judas Priest guy but this sounds like Dream Theater who are amazing. This I like better than Painkiller (yes you heard me) Because the vocals are more polished and less squeaky which I think makes it an easier listen. There are some amazing songs on here and possibly the best Preist album.

- Awesome priest album

Love it!

- Prophecy

"Here's the thing about the future. Everytime you look at it, it changes because you looked at it, and that changes everything else." -Excerpt from the film,NEXT (Ref. to Philip K. Dick's, The Golden Man)

- Amazing

This album is amazing. This may be my favorite album, by judas priest. It has everything, fast, slow, melodic, and instrumental. Amazing album!! Don't understand why it doesn't have lots of good ratings.

- Interesting progression, boring album

I got super excited when this came out, awesome new Priest!! But not going to lie, listened to it once, then never again. I could & can appreciate this for it's creativity, its progression...Priest just like any band like to try new things. So as a fan it's worth a listen, but overall it just wasn't a good album. Angel of Retribution was a fantastic return for Priests so it was really disappointing this was a follow up. Perhaps they should have released one part first than the other later. I mean this was definitely no The Wall or any other well known double album, it's just boring

- Amazing!!!!

Great songs,and a vocal masterpiece!!!!

- Unbelievable

This is by far the greatest compilation of Judas Priest's work. I am 43 Y/O and I partied hard to there ealier works but this is by far the best work that they have done. I have been listening to this CD for the last three days and it seems to get better every time. I am in awe of this CD I hope there is more to come.

- this is very good

this album is great. this is any priest fans must to have.

- An alright effort

Every good metal band-or every band, for that matter-has had a slow start with their music before their rise to fame. The Beatles and Metallica are two good examples, and Judas Priest is no exception. Usually when a band gets a reputation for having a certain sound, the fans expect them to stick to that sound. This album has probably one song that's actually metal, and that is Nostradamus. The rest is symphonic metal. I love Judas Priest. I think they're a great band. But like with most bands, concept albums tend to disappoint some of their fans. The only exception I can think of is Iron Maiden, with Seventh Son of a Seventh Son. One thing I can give Judas Priest credit for is taking the dare to change thier sound. Some bands are too scared to do that. But for a bunch of guys going on 60 (with the exception of Scott Travis), this was a very good effort. My final rating? 2.5-3 stars.

- Will You live? Will You Die? Will Your Worlds Collide?

Priest does it again, these last two albums have just been awesome in re-rooting themselves in their 70's sound. this album leaning more towards sad wings in it's progressiveness while angel reminds me of stained glass. that being said i like nostradamus a lot. rob's voice just kills and tipton and downing always in lockstep providing that great riff with thatalways steady rythem section of hill and travis. just buy the album only complainet is the sometimes lame 30 second pieces, other than that the true songs are just awesome pre 80's priest.

- Lacking hooks, metal, or comprehension, this is dreck

Not a single song on this overblown disaster is worth adding to your iPod, let along purchasing. A sonic mess.

- Nostradamus - Judas priest

I have been a long time fan of priest, and i gotta hand it to priest.. every album theyve released is different, in a metal style. from the balls to the wall metal of Painkiller, to the dance rock of Turbo, to the radio friendly british steel. priest have never been afraid to experiment with their sound. they take risks. Nostradamus is no different. its a concept album as most priest fans know, and the production is beautiful, you can hear every instrument crystal clear. but.. its very long, 2 discs. it can get boring, and long winded. If you are a fan of concept albums this is for you..

- Buy the title track

The song "Nostradamus" is pretty sweet actually. It's a shame that pretty much every other song on this album is so very very weaksauce, though. Save yourself the time and money and skip to Nostradamus, and leave all the overblown pseudo-prog nonsense to rot. Or better yet, go buy Screaming for Vengeance, Defenders of the Faith, British Steel, Painkiller, or pretty much any other Judas Priest album! (except Jugulator or Demolition)

- Masterful !!

This is definately Judas Priest's best songwriting to date. This album won't appeal to the mainstream like British Steel or Screaming for Vengeance, but if you're a Priest fan and can appreciate excellent songwriting, this is a great album for you. Rob Halford, who has the greatest metal voice of all time, has even hit new heights here. If you choose to download only one song, download the title track. It will blow you away.

- Aweful

I've been a life long Priest fan and have to say this album is rather an embarrassment. I understand it's a concept piece but what an adolescent concept it is! Honestly, my 11 year old could come up with better titles and lyrics...and a less sophomoric concept! The whole thing is full of immature cliches which I could pardon or chalk up to my own growing up out of this band but the music itself is equally as bad. Worn out musical cliches and just a silly overblown sound. RIP JP.

- Best album from Priest in two decades

In Junior high and High School I was obsessed with older Judas Priest albums like Sad Wings of Destiny, Stained Class and Unleashed in the East. As Heavy Metal changed both Priest and other bands I lost interest in the genre as it became silly in the 90's. On a whim I bought the new Priest album. I expected to hear more songs about kinky sex , motorcycle leather boys or some post apocalyptic cyborg creature named Manshredder, but instead I got a great concept album! I was really happy to hear it! it was like Priest from 1975 again! Intelligent lyrics, Rob's theatrical nature takes over! It fired my imagination like the older stuff did. There is a broadway show here..but in a cool way. Its kind of like Priest meets the new Mastodon. Thank you Priest! Time to paint a new back patch on my jean jacket!

- Great album!

Rob's singing is better than ever.

- Cant speak to the whole album yet….

But Prophecy IS the most Kickass Priest song released in years…. If the rest of the album is as good then you got areal winner here. However with that being said, I am not nor have I ever been a fan of “song introduction pieces” and that includes “Hellion” from Vengeance…That sort of thing would throw me off….Like one reviewer stated, “I like my metal to get to the point.” My four stars is reflective of the one song.

- Nostradamus is here to stay

When I first bought this album and listened to it, I thought to myself that this album is amazing! The guitar solos are incredible, the drums are verocious, the vocals cannot be any better, and of course the bass was excellent! This album is a must be for anybody who is a Defender of the Faith!

- It's always great to see band experiment.

As you have probably read from the reviews, this is a more opera-type album. But, Rob's voice was just made for opera! They've been doing metal for 30 years, it's okay if they switch it up for an album. I personally love it. Every songs flows so well together. The lyrics are the strongest point on this album. The guitars are absent for some songs, but the synth usually makes up for that. I would suggest buying the whole thing because like all concept albums, it is better when you listen to it from front to back. If you really can't stand the album and just want balls-out metal, at least buy the song Nostradamus. But give it a chance. Judas Priest weren't afraid to broaden their horizons, why should you be?

- Majestic

It's a wonderful thing when artists don't try and remake the same old album over and over again. I've listened to Priest since the mid 70's and this album could well be the pinnacle of their labors. It's simply majestic and I can't stop listening. Every time I hear it (and it takes about three times through to understand the flow) the layers of sound astound more. Rob's voice is so powerful it provides chills. Name one other metal vocalist who can sing with this clarity and accuracy. How enjoyable it must be for KK and Glenn to play this type of music after decades of power chords. I've never listened to the lyrics of metal music, for me they are simply sounds for the singer to elicit, so the occasionally corny lyrics don't faze me in the slightest. Overall, maybe I'm mellowing a tad as I approach 50, but this album has everything I want in music, Powerful Silkiness. Thanks guys, please keep 'delivering the goods'.

- Epic Wail!

Spine chilling glissandos in 'Death', powerful rhythm and dark undertones in 'Exiled' - Nostradamus is definitely one of Priest's best works; 5 stars for sure. Everyone expecting another helping of the same stuff - where's the fun in that? These guys are musicians and obviously have more than one flavor. Great stuff, guys!

- A great concept recording!

The best concept recording since 2112, Operation Mindcrime and the Wall.

- Priest Keep

This album was great from start to finish. The thing with most people that don't 'get' is that Priest isn't Iron Maiden or Slayer which do the same thing in virtually every song and record. Judas Priest has a vast amount of dynamics. This album proves this. They do what they do best. There are some songs i like more than others but even in the ones I don't care for as much, the songs work for what the concept was. I'm very displeased about the tour. I don't understand at all why they didn't play the whole album live. People need this album hammered in their brains to want to get it. We've heard Breakin the law a trillion times, what about Persecution??? Or Revelations?? Not even the song Nostradamus. C'mon.

- Well well!

Some say this is not the Judas Priest they know and they'd be correct. However what it is is a masterpiece. I love it and it's by far my favourite Priest release.

- Heavy Metal Opera about The End of the World

This album is a masterpiece. It's the story of a man's life during the time of the Black Plague in Europe, and of his visions of the end of the world. It's about life, love, temptation, death, prophecy, hope and redemption. It's not a "typical" album. Probably the closest thing to it is Blind Guardian's "Nightfall in Middle Earth." For a sample of some of the best songs, in my opinion, check out Death, Pestilence and Plague, Alone, Hope, Conquest, Prophecy. There are ballads, laments, interludes and soul-crushing metal songs. It's an "experience." If you're open to that, you'll probably listen to it again and again, and love it more every time.

- The guy on this album is ugly

I am racist over him

- A Masterpiece

Judas Priest just keeps getting better and better! Amazing job on the album.

- A must have CD

This is a remarkable album from a legendary group. It is completely different from the usual Priest stuff, but also one of their best efforts. It is a must have CD, but requires a few listens to fully appreciate. If after five listens you don't like it, then my bad. If after five listens you love it, I guarantee it will be in your MP3 player and listened to constantly. Thank you Priest for a fantastic record.

- Hardly predictable

When a band can reach for something new, something different at any point in its career, it is worthy of critical praise. When that band has 30 years of success and the words "living legends" stamped on its amplifiers, the adjective courageous certainly applies. One has to praise Priest for the courage shown by Nostradamus. Still, as much as the artistic effort has to be admired, this is a case of the reach exceeding the grasp. There are a lot of good songs. Prophecy and Nostradamus rock with the best in the band's catalogue. Alone is stunning - probably the most gorgeous song the Priest has ever recorded. Halford's voice retains all its power. Tipton and Downing can still lay down metal licks with the best of them. Tasty hooks are scattered throughout. It's just that Nostradamus is so damn long, with so much filler, it's difficult to get through from start to finish. Even a prophet needs an editor sometimes.

- Is there a 6 stars button?

Honestly, Its Judas Preist guys, obviously its worthy of worship in the first place. Definately not the classic JP were all used to... In plain terms, it sounds like the london-phill harmonic if they did metal music, and dressed in full leather-stud attire.... Will not dissapoint!

- One of the best Metal Opera!!!

Amazing album concept, great piece of music, fantastic vocal of Rob and perfect guitar work from the Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing. Absolutely MUST HAVE album!!!

- It's Priest

Any body that know priest and knows what they are like will under stand this. This album is a lot like Turbo/British Steel(Poppy like.) Un like Angel of retabution which was more Pain Killer, Screaming for vengence(HEAVY). Thusly don''t be supprised by the sound(Longer Semi-Dragging). It's still a great album and the songs on it are great. But if your more into the "Heavy" sound of Priest this album isn't for you. If You're more into the "Poppy" sound of Priest then this is more for you.As a fan i think that the album is okay but I think that Priest could've done a little bit better. Lets hope the next CD is like The last one(Angel Of Retrabution) Heavy.

- Great!

I love this album. Can't help listening it. Some songs are pretty unusual to Jadas Priest, but it's all good stuff.

- Absolutely amazing

Priest has been getting a lot of mixed reviews with this album although with most of them I've noticed a few patterns, the reviews that gave priest the higher ratings had longer and deeper reviews than the websites/newspapers who gave it terrible ratings, I found these reviews who gave this album terrible ratings rather opinionated and without real reason for rating this album so low, musically this is Priest's most complex album and their most daring, while the lyrics may be rather cheesy, the song writing itself is absolutely brilliant, the opening track (2nd) Prophecy has many of the traditional priest elements while adding in a more mystical element to it, and it works out wonderfully. The album also has a good balance of soft/ heavy songs that allow the album to progress smoothly over the almost two hour long album without slugging along or seeming too drawn out. Kudos Priest, this may be one of your finest moments

- was skeptical at first... after one full listen.... amazing.... so much depth!!

this is simply an incredible concepth album... the depth is so extending and diverse... along with music over 2 hours.. I'm absolutley in love with this album and I'm going to find the deluxe double cd version with the 48 page artwork booklet... Good Job Preist... this is an exciting album waiting for one to obsorb themselves in...

- awesome

as a metal and prog rock lover , i found this to be the perfect mix for me. i've been a banger since "hell bent" and 'maidens' "killers" etc., but also appreciate early 'yes','floyd','ELP' and a ton of 'zepplin'. this "judas" should not be considered a "traiter" to metal, but an awesome pairing of prog and metal.

- GREAT album!

This album is NOT a typical Priest album... I mean, its very different from their other albums and that's the main reason why some people don't/won't like it. Now, is that a bad thing? In my opinion, it isn't. I've always been a big fan of epic music and Nostradamus is one of the most epic albums I've ever heard. Yeah, the music on this album is very epic and its also very melodic, in fact, Nostradmus is probably Priest's most melodic album. Anyway, lets talk about the songs now. I'll skip the interludes because they are pretty useless, I mean, they aren't bad at all, but I usually skip them unless I feel like listening to the album all the way through. First CD: The first song, Prophecy, is one of the best songs on the album, it reminds a bit of Angel Of Retribution, it has a great main riff that is used during the verses and the chorus, the pre-chorus is quite dark and I like it and the chorus is good, but its not one of the best choruses on the album. The next song, Revelations, is even better, the verses are very epic and I love them, the song is very epic and symphonic overall (but so is most of the album). War sounds more like an interlude than a real song, but its a great one, the chorus is very dark, but its not very original, I mean, the riff during it is the typical dark heavy metal riff (you'll understand what I mean when you'll listen to it). After that, we have Pestillence And Plague which is a favorite of mine, a lot of people don't like the chorus because its in italian, they think its cheesy, but personally, I think that its one of the best choruses on the album, its very epic and Rob Halford's vocals during it are great. Next is Death, its quite forgettable, but it has a few great parts, the riff at 2:12 really reminds me of Death (the band), I mean, in terms of harmonies (I'm sure that Death fans will get what I mean)... The part at 5:12 is the best part for me, the synth sounds great. Conquest starts with a pretty catchy riff and like Pestillence And Plague it has a very epic chorus. The next song, Lost Love, is the first ballad on the album and its definitely a great ballad! Its very soft, but its simply beautiful. I'm not a big fan of ballads, but this one is very good. The first CD ends with Persecution which is the heaviest song on the CD, its good, but to me its one of the weakest songs on the first CD... Its one of the songs that sound the most like typical Priest, but you know what? I prefer the epic sound of the other songs. Second CD: In my opinion, the second CD is nowhere as good as the first one. Actually, it mostly consists of ballads. The first song, Exiled, is good, but its nothing special really... The next song, Alone, is MUCH better! Actually, its one of the best songs on the album, its a ballad, but like Lost Love from the first CD, its a great one and it has a really memorable chorus (one of the best on the album). Visions is one of the first songs that we all got to hear, when I first heard it, I thought that it was average and I still think that its average... Like Persecution from the first CD, it sounds quite a bit like a typical Priest song, but its simply nothing special, the chorus is very generic... Next, we have, in my opinion, the weakest song on the album, New Beginnings. It isn't bad, but its very forgettable, its just a very average ballad. The title track starts in a very epic way, a lot of people don't like the intro, but personally, I love it! Anyway, its one of the heaviest songs on the album, the riff under the verses really remind of the main riff from Painkiller (which can be a good thing or a bad thing) and the chorus is quite catchy. The last song, Future Of Mankind, is one of the best songs on the second CD, its very epic and the chorus is not overly original, but I love it! Now lets talk about the musicians. Rob Halford's voice on this album is great, he doesn't sing very high as much as on the other albums, but his voice is very poweful! We all know that Tipton and Downing are great guitarists, I've always loved their solos, but I must say that I'm quite disappointed with their playing on this album... Tipton's solos have always been very memorable, but his solos on this album are not very memorable. A lot of the riffs aren't really incredible either... I mean, the album has a few great riffs, but the riffs are not what make the album good... Oh well, to add some positive, a couple of the songs have very cool melodic (melodies, harmonies, ...) sections. Scott Travis is a great drummer and I guess that he's great on this album, but I don't know much about drumming... Ian Hill, well, he's Ian Hill. Last, but not least, the orchestration/keyboard/synth on this album is one of the best things about it! A lot of people think that Judas Priest and orchestration don't go together and maybe they're right, but without the orchestration/keyboard/synth, this album wouldn't be anywere near as good as it is. Its an epic album, it needs orchestration. Seriously, do you really expect an epic album to consist of guitar, bass and drums only? What about the lyrics? Well, honestly, they aren't bad, but they aren't great either, they're quite cheesy, but lyrics have never been Priest's strong point. Personally, I don't really care about them... Yeah, I realize that the album is a concept album, but the music is great, so I don't really mind the lyrics. So, overall, Nostradamus is a great album. Its not Priest's best, but, for me, its better than half of their disocgraphy. Like I said earlier, its not a typical Priest album, its more epic than heavy, but who cares? Just accept that Priest tried something different. Listen to it with an open mind like I did, don't expect a second Painkiller. Best songs (in no specific order): Prophecy, Revelations, Pestilence and Plague, Conquest and Alone.

- Way too progressive... :(

As many I'm sure, I was looking forward to this album for a long time and when it finally arrived I was stoked. Then I played through it and...meh. It isn't bad, but it isn't great either. I am only 18, yet I am a fan of all their old stuff, it was much better. I am seeing them live on July 26, which I am super excited for but I hope they don't play a lot of their new stuff. The album has 23 songs, which I think at least 8 should have been cut, the intro songs (the short ones that lead into the main song). There are good heavy and fast songs, but overall this album is lacking compared to their other new album, Angel of Retribution, and my personal favorite, the amazing Painkiller. I give this album 5 stars (instead of 3), because I love Priest and because Glenn Tipton is god...not because the album is that good.

- A Must Buy

It. Is. New. Judas. Priest. Not much more is needed.

- Absolutely Amazing!!!!!!

Priest seem to be getting a little grief on the different path they have chosen on this new album. I have managed to listen to the entire disc a couple times today and it is definately the most original and best material they have ever produced. Not your typical Judas Priest album, but we already have many of those don't we!!!! I was a little worried myself on this release but it is definately one of the best things I have ever heard.

Nostradamus Wiki

Michel de Nostredame (December 1503 – July 1566), usually Latinised as Nostradamus, was a French astrologer, apothecary, physician, and reputed seer, who is best known for his book Les Prophéties (published in 1555), a collection of 942 poetic quatrains allegedly predicting future events. Nostradamus's father's family had originally been Jewish, but had converted to Catholic Christianity a generation before Nostradamus was born. He studied at the University of Avignon, but was forced to leave after just over a year when the university closed due to an outbreak of the plague. He worked as an apothecary for several years before entering the University of Montpellier, hoping to earn a doctorate, but was almost immediately expelled after his work as an apothecary (a manual trade forbidden by university statutes) was discovered. He first married in 1531, but his wife and two children died in 1534 during another plague outbreak. He worked against the plague alongside other doctors before remarrying to Anne Ponsarde, with whom he had six children. He wrote an almanac for 1550 and, as a result of its success, continued writing them for future years as he began working as an astrologer for various wealthy patrons. Catherine de' Medici became one of his foremost supporters. His Les Prophéties, published in 1555, relied heavily on historical and literary precedent, and initially received mixed reception. He suffered from severe gout toward the end of his life, which eventually developed into edema. He died on 1 or 2 July 1566. Many popular authors have retold apocryphal legends about his life. In the years since the publication of his Les Prophéties, Nostradamus has attracted many supporters, who, along with some of the popular press, credit him with having accurately predicted many major world events. Academic sources reject the notion that Nostradamus had any genuine supernatural prophetic abilities and maintain that the associations made between world events and Nostradamus's quatrains are the result of (sometimes deliberate) misinterpretations or mistranslations. These academics also argue that Nostradamus's predictions are characteristically vague, meaning they could be applied to virtually anything, and are useless for determining whether their author had any real prophetic powers.
