Very boring
I am an avid collector of drum recordings and music of the world, and this is among my favorite collections. It's a great reference when I want to listen to rhythms from a particular region. I've heard some these arrangements at international festivals, but the drummers on this recording are particularly energetic and exciting to listen to. The recording quality, from the deep lows to the crisp highs really captures every nuance of these performances. I highly recommend this collection for drummers and those who love drums! And what a great price for such a large collection!
These track titles have nothing to do with the musics and cultures of these people. I am an ethnomusicologist and percussionist, and am intimately familiar with several of the styles this artist pretends to play or represent. This is shameful to traditional drum musics the world over. This is pseudo drum circle nonsense, performed amateurishly on homogonized and inauthentic instrumentation. For shame. My teachers would cry if they heard their music was being misrepresented by this drivel. Please support real traditional artists, and stop buying this. To the artist, please consider changing every song title on this album. It is severely delusional to pretend that you know anything about these cultures and instruments. You are committing cultural fraud, and it sickens me.
I love the samba drums as well as the African drumming. Most of the song are fun to dance to and we use them for our class. I think this is a great album for anyone who loves drums!
I love the different drums and tempos that each area of the world offers.
I listen to this CD when I go on long drives. The drums really help me stay awake and make traveling a lot of fun.
I am not an ethnic music expert- I play Chinese drums and have familiarity with taiko, but I could tell after the first few tracks that this is one or 2 people on a standard drum kit. I wish I had read earlier reviews; I feel like a sucker for buying this and expecting various groups of drummers playing their respective and authentic music.
yeah, everything is good and fair when you include all great nations but forget the greatest in folk music-Georgia? Did you know that georgian national(folk) singing has no competitor, by UNESCO. Secong place is empty and third is for the Speniards. Georgian drums MUST be included in every world drum album, period! if you want to be fair.
You should save your money and only buy one album from them because all they do is take other tracks and rename them. I wish I could have my money back because this was a rip off.
The tracks are incomplete performances, many simply being faded out. I'm no ethnomusicologist so I liked the rhythms. I agree the drums sound more "in the style of" and not the cultural sound I'd expect.
