- Peter, Paul and Mary. (1962)

Wonderful album. I am so pleased to add it to my digital collection.

- The beginning of the best of our generation

I remember bringing this album home the first time. My mom saw it and thought I'd gone "beatnik". Only those of you as old as me will even identify with that term. When she heard the music, though, she recognized, as did I and everyone I knew, that here was real expression and musicianship. These cuts are the foundation for everything that PP&M would do in the future. Anyone who has even a passing interest in PP&M MUST have this album.

- Memories of Childhood

Being a very young child and growing up in Santa Cruz, CA in the sixties, I don't have too many memories of that time. However, I do distinctly recall sitting around my parents Magnavox console stereo record player and listening to this album. I loved the music then, not understanding any of the deeper meaning. Listening to the same music now, I feel a deep sense of nostalgia...perhaps even a tinge of melancholy as I hear these simple but emotionally charged tunes coupled with the perfect harmony of voices. The talent and chemistry of this trio shines as they have created near perfection.

- Wow

What a beautiful collection of songs Peter Paul and Mary had true, raw talent.

- True Classic

The word "classic" gets tossed around a lot, but this recording qualifies. My dad was a huge fan of PP&M's music (if not their politics), and I knew every word to every song of this album practically before I was out of my crib! As I got older, my musical tastes changed, but I always come back to this album as a touchstone of near-perfection. PP&M were wonderful musicians, and great interpreters (often underrated, but one needs only to listen to their Dylan covers to realize their genius). With the passing of Mary Travers, the world has lost one of its most endearing voices, but this set of amazing tracks lives on, as it definitely deserves to.

- "One Day Beneath The Lemon Tree!"

.."Long Time Passing!"..Yes; With the Passing of Mary Travers; The Music World has lost another one of it's Great Voices!-Just listen in again to Peter; Paul & Mary's Debut Disc and You will know they "Really Had Something" from the Very Start!-(Even before they had heard of the young Bobby Dylan; Peter; Paul & Mary were developing a style of "Socially Conscious" Folk Songs!)-And the Timing was truly Memorable; They (With Baez & Dylan) Would become the Spokespersons for the beginning Civil Rights and Peace "Movements" of the 1960's!-On Stages from New York City to Newport to Washington; D.C.; These Three Voices would soon truly "Ring Out A Warning!"-And a good run in the "Music Biz" for over 45 years is Remarkable In Itself!-To All The Young Singer/Songwriters Out There; "A Song Will Rise" Again!...by Grimmbo.

- Great on rehearing

I grew up with this in my parents' vinyl collection. Listening now, they are so good at what they do. The voices blend beautifully in harmonies that bring out the heart of the song. Crisp guitar alongside the voices. Some beautiful melodies, and some songs with cultural or philosophical resonance. Try 500 miles, Lemon Tree, and Hammer. If you like those you'll like the album. Check out their album In The Wind, from the same time in their careers.

- Peter, Paul and Mary

One of their first and perhaps the best album of all time for this remarkable group. When I saw them in person the entire audience would thrill when they played any of the numbers included in this classic album. Thanks itunes...wish you were around when I was growing up. Tory Painter, age 57!!!

Peter, Paul and Mary Wiki

Peter, Paul and Mary were an American folk group formed in New York City in 1961 during the American folk music revival phenomenon. The trio consisted of Peter Yarrow (guitar, tenor vocals), Paul Stookey (guitar, baritone vocals), and Mary Travers (contralto vocals). The group's repertoire included songs written by Yarrow and Stookey, early songs by Bob Dylan, and covers of other folk musicians. They were enormously successful in the early- and mid-1960s, with their debut album topping the charts for weeks, and helped popularize the folk music revival. After the death of Travers in 2009, Yarrow and Stookey continued to perform as a duo under their individual names. Mary Travers said she was influenced by Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, and the Weavers. In the 2004 documentary Peter, Paul & Mary: Carry It On — A Musical Legacy, members of the Weavers discuss how Peter, Paul and Mary took over the torch of the social commentary of folk music in the 1960s. The group was inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1999. Peter, Paul and Mary received the Sammy Cahn Lifetime Achievement Award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2006.
