Sarah's music is just wonderful. When she sings, I just have to stop what I am doing and listen.
Okay, I just had to comment after reading the little biography above. Afterglow has the songs I first heard by Sarah McLachlan and indeed was the first album of hers I ever purchased (this was a physical CD I purchased; I've had for a long time). I just felt I had to say that it is possible for this album to win new fans. It won me.
I've been a fan of her music for many years and she does it again. Her voice is like an angel. Her lyrics touch the heart and soul. It's beautiful, she's beautiful!
I'am the big berly John Wayne tipe love Heavy Metal Hard Rock and this CD is beautiful Sarah McLachian's voice just melt my heart I can't get enough of her.
The song Answer is the most amazing song ever! There was a commercial about abused animals with this song and it was a real eye opener to how many animals are abused. It made me cry. I recognized this song as I listened and scrolled through Sarah McLauchlan's songs. This song is AMAZING not being depressing or anything. I just wished animals were treated better than they are.
Nothing other than... Sarah is one of the most orignal and amazing female singer./songwriters to come out of the 90's. She is of the likes of Jewel, Natalie Merchant and more. She has made her mark in more than just musis and continues to venture outside of her passion and talent and move more into the mainstream with her efforts in animal abuse, homelessness and more. This is by far, one of her best albums to date, I would recomend this album as a starter for anyone who is new to Sarah, and then move into her other, much deeper music.
I have just recently become a huge fan of Sarah McLachlan. I had gotten her album Closer and Surfacing and listened to Mirrorball and then I listened to Afterglow. At first, I knew that it was a good album, but it wasn't amazing to me. Now, it is probably my favorite of her albums that I have heard and it is on the Top 10 of my favorite CDs. It is one of the very few CDs that I can listen to the WHOLE thing. Not just a couple, but the whole thing. That is what really impresses me about the album and is something that I can't find easily. Fallen- I heard this on Closer and thought that it was very good. I like how it's kind of dramatic in parts, like the beginning. 10/10 World On Fire- Another one I heard on Closer and I think it is very pretty, especially the piano. 10/10 Stupid- Another one I heard on Closer (trust me, this is the last one) and I like listening to it before I go to bed and when it's raining out. It's not boring, but the verses are very calming and the choruses are very strong. 10/10 Drifting- I think that the song title says it all, it is a very peaceful, calming song, and it just basically drifts along. 10/10 Train Wreck- Love this song! The choruses are the best and it was the stand-out track when I listened to it for the first time. 10/10 Push- My favorite on the album. I think it is just a beautiful love song that says how even when you act your worst, the other person still loves you and stays with you through those moments. The chorus is my favorite and I tend to like to sit outside and watch the clouds go by while listening to this song. 10/10 Answer- This song is very good and I enjoy listening to it. It's a good song to listen to while you are laying in bed at night. 10/10 Time- This song is also really good (I know you're probably sick of hearing that, but how can you not expect to hear it when we're talking about Sarah McLachlan?)I love the musci to it and it just seems to fit what the song is about. 10/10 Perfect Girl- I love this album, but no album can be fulled with perfect songs. These last 2 don't seem, to me, to be as good as the 8 before them, but that doesn't mean that they aren't good. This song, just seems a little weak, mostly because all those awesome songs were before it. 9/10 Dirty Little Secret- Like I already said, this is one of the 2 weaker songs. It's still pretty good, but since it is the last one, it's easy to listen to something else. 9/10 Sarah McLachlan has made an amazing album here and it sounds like her new album (Laws of Illusion) has the same sound to it. I recommend this album because of her voice and songwriting and that it is a good listen for anytime.
Here's one of my favorite female voices and probably best work done by Sarah McLachlan, Afterglow continues to glimmer this artist after Surfacing's success with hit songs "Angel", "Adia" or "Sweet Surrender". I recommend listening closely to "Fallen", "World On Fire", "Stupid", "Train Wreck", "Answer" and "Time".
I love so many songs on this. Answer, Time, Fallen, Drifting. I loved the video for World on Fire. It was an eye opener.
Wonderful, wonderful album. You’ll find yourself singing along and in your own world. Great in the car or just relaxing wherever listening with headphones. This album is my favorite and Sarah has an outstanding discography to choose a favorite from.
This album is amazing. It is one of the few albums that I can listen to in its entirety over and over again. This is definitely one of my favorite albums of all time. It got me through some pretty tought times. Buy it, you won't regret it.
This is a good album by the looks of it.
What a gem. This ranks as one of my all-time favorite albums of any genres. Production-wise, it is intimate and lush. Musically, it is emotionally rich and really satisfying. It was an instant classic from the day it was released. It was my first iTunes purchase. I bought it the day it was released in '03. I recently purchased the iTunes Plus version above about four months ago to replace my original. (This is encoded at a higher AAC bitrate than the original, so better quality.)
I was a fan of Sarah for years before this album was released. I had her album "Surfacing" and enjoyed it very much! I actually enjoyed "Afterglow" more. The lead single "Fallen" from it sounds better than any of the singles on "Surfacing." The best non-single is in my opinion "Train Wreck." The lyrics and music is so haunting and beautiful. This album is a great addition to anyone's collection!
I have listened to this CD and it is great. I can't choose a favorite song really. But I love Fallen and World On Fire is just an amazing song. I would say World On Fire is my definite favorite song.
I have stayed up to three in the morning listening to this album on loop. Its my absolute favorite even though I don't typically listen to this genre. This album is so amazing and speaks to the soul. The song answer is the highlight, but every song is wonderful.
this was the first one of her albums that i ever owned, and it was the one that made me fall in love with her music.
Another great album from her. We love Fallen and World on Fire. Stupid and Answer are good too!

An afterglow in meteorology consists of several atmospheric optical phenomena, with a general definition as a broad arch of whitish or pinkish sunlight in the twilight sky, consisting of the bright segment and the purple light. Purple light mainly occurs when the Sun is 2–6° below the horizon, from civil to nautical twilight, while the bright segment lasts until the end of the nautical twilight. Afterglow is often in cases of volcanic eruptions discussed, while its purple light is discussed as a different particular volcanic purple light. Specifically in volcanic occurrences it is light scattered by fine particulates, like dust, suspended in the atmosphere. In the case of alpenglow, which is similar to the Belt of Venus, afterglow is used in general for the golden-red glowing light from the sunset and sunrise reflected in the sky, and in particularly for its last stage, when the purple light is reflected. The opposite of an afterglow is a foreglow, which occurs before sunrise. Sunlight reaches Earth around civil twilight during golden hour intensely in its low-energy and low-frequency red component. During this part of civil twilight after sunset and before sundawn the red sunlight remains visible by scattering through particles in the air. Backscattering, possibly after being reflected off clouds or high snowfields in mountain regions, furthermore creates a reddish to pinkish light. The high-energy and high-frequency components of light towards blue are scattered out broadly, producing the broader blue light of nautical twilight before or after the reddish light of civil twilight, while in combination with the reddish light producing the purple light. This period of blue dominating is referred to as the blue hour and is, like the golden hour, widely treasured by photographers and painters. After the 1883 eruption of the volcano Krakatoa, a remarkable series of red sunsets appeared worldwide. An enormous amount of exceedingly fine dust were blown to a great height by the volcano's explosion, and then globally diffused by the high atmospheric winds. Edvard Munch's painting The Scream possibly depicts an afterglow during this period.
