I am a Deadhead, but ownership of that epithet should be somewhat qualified. I went to Dead shows for different reasons than most did. I was one of those rare few who was there to listen to the music. The sound of this recording is bad. Everything sounds sort of jarring, harsh and unpleasant, making what I consider a mediocre performance an even less worthwhile listening experience. I love the Dead, and there are some great Dead performances recorded out there...most of them not commercially released. This is not one of them. As much as I love their music, I literally cannot listen to this one more than a few songs through before I take it off and put on a nice, warm-sounding audience recording. Not that soundboards are always bad...but this one is.
This is the day I became a DeadHead, saw both shows where the Dead backed up The Who! A Chicago boy in California with a beautiful blonde ( now my wife of 30 years) listening to The Dead and The Who all day long on a 80 degree day. So I can't be objective about this show, to have this show available on I-Tunes is too good to be true.
I love it and my name is Cassidy ( after Cassidy the song) so that makes it even better hearing my name in a song, awesome:)!!!
It must have been very weird for the Dead to open a show and have to play so early in the day. Needless to say, they killed that day. I still have a poster of the show that brings back very fond memories. Truthfully, I can't remember a lot....but remembered the vibe very well. I was so happy to see that the show was finally released. I attended the Saturday show. So glad I now have the Sunday show also!!
Unbelievable show brings such good vibes when I listen to it
I hate seeing bad reviews on great live recordings. I usually never leave reviews but this deserves 10 stars. And the fact that you get over five hours of live Dead is hard to pass up
This was a great weekend set and paired the Dead with The Who. The vibe was great and both bands were in fine form. Both shows seemed to be pretty acid drenched - one of those rare ones where the majority of the audience seemed to be tripping pretty hard. The Dead picked up on it and played accordingly. The Who had a more preplanned show, which is the format they followed for the first day. The crowd was not acting like a typical leather clad hard rock audience, and Pete Townshend mentioned having to switch it up. The second day, The Who threw away their set list and really loosened up, played whatever they wanted, and did a great self-parody of wrecking their instruments, Keith Moon was especially hilarious and Pete kept up a great banter with the crowd. The Who had been friends with the Dead for a while, and they were party buddies. There was some definite partying going on that weekend both backstage and in the crowd. Awesome times, so glad to have been there!

I was at this concert, was just browsing and came across it, will add it to the collection, never had a bad dead album.
This is one of the better Dick's Picks I've heard so far, the sound quality is great. "Scarlet" and "Slipknot Pt. 1" are among the best respective versions I've heard. Lots of songs for the price. I'm guessing this was during the "Wall of Sound" era, In my opinion this is a good buy. Redtony23
I picked up this dicks pick because of the good reviews and song selection. However after listening through it i became disapointed with the first show. The recording quality is very good but Jerry seems to just be going through the motions his singing is off and he forgets some lyrics and his lead work is not inspiring. However the second show on the 10th is much better the whole band seems more together and Jerrys guitar work is sweet . I will have to say that Keith's piano playing is really nice and yes he's playing the piano and not the cheesy electric harpschord that he had for some shows. All in all its an ok album but there are better picks like18, 25 or 29
I love the Grateful Dead and I can look past a lot of things when the band is really swinging. But this is one album I regretted buying. The vocals are muffled throughout and the board mix is just way off. That being said there are 45 songs from 2 nights and there are (as always) hidden gems. I went ahead and bought Cornell 5/8/77 and I was all smiles again.
Beautiful, mellow, flowing, spiritual Dead. Two full shows. My fav Stella Blue. But so much good HAPPY Dead here. Really good vibes, as previous reviewer said. 5 hours. Vocally, I think the first show is a little better than the second. Jerry and Donna's voices tighter in the first set but musically both sets fantastic. This is in my top 5 DPs.
