I truly thought the compositions of this album were fantastic. The main melody is extremely haunting and beautiful. I really love it. My only complaint is that the singing the clan did after home tree was destroyed is left out. That's one of my favorite parts of the movie, musically.

Everyone wants the movie, not the soundtrack. iTunes needs to put Titanic and Avatar up. These are the best two movies in my opinion, and iTunes could make millions off of titanic.

If you are familiar with James Horner, you will know that he is a master of emotional manipulation, churning out deeply moving music for films such as Bicentennial Man, Titanic, A Beautiful Mind and Legends of the Fall. Avatar is no exception, but instead of making the listener feel sad or melancholy, the music is uplifting, soaring and sometimes completely breathtaking. My favorite cues are: "Becoming one of ''The People'' Becoming one with Neytiri", "Climbing up ''Iknimaya - The Path to Heaven'', "Jake's first flight" and "War". Check this awesome film score out! You will not be disappointed.

I love Avatar, ive watched it so many times, that one time i heard my bro listening to the war sound track. i was like,"Wait a minute, i know that... Thats.... Thats Avatar!!! OMG!" and i was like,"How did i know that was Avatar, when i only heard the first 30 secounds of the song!!" That just shows how much i LOVE Avatar!!!!

The best Music I've ever heard in a movie besides The Lord of the Rings Soundtracks. James Horner does a great job in capturing the picture of the beautiful alien planet Pandora is with his music.

I was a little supprised when I saw this on itunes and realised that I could not remember a singal note of music from the movie, not becoues it faded into the background, but becoues the score, while fitting in the movie, has a forgetable.... what did it sould like again?

I absolutely adore this soundtrack! the music really draws you in and makes you feel as though you're in a pandora of your own.... But the magnificence of the album doesn't justify the stupidity on iTunes part. It's just not right to make you have to pay for the whole album....no point either...

Not only was Avatar a great movie, but its soundtrack catapulted it into that of lore. Not only does every song on this album capture the setting and purpose of Avatar so unequivocally, but I have to say that, contrary to other reviews, the song "Shutting Down Grace's Lab" gives me goosebumps every time. Although I agree that you should be able to purchase individual songs, this album is worth ten dollars. If you didn't like the movie or its soundtrack, you're probably not a fan of spellbounding musical arrangements. For all of those who loved the movie, this album is a perfect thing to listen to when trying to calm down or fall asleep. James Horner is a modern day Beethoven... overstatement?.....no.

I'd love to buy some of these songs single; album only. I'd love to read the correct critic review; IT'S FOR TITANIC.

All of these tracks are beautiful and well-crafted. James Horner has once again proved himself with this soundtrack. Since there are only fourteen tracks on here, each track will be broken down. A complaint launched at iTunes will follow. 1. "You Don't Dream In Cryo. ...." 9.5/10: This is a fantastic start to a promising soundtrack. It captures the alien feel of the strange, new world we are stepping in to, as well as getting the plot moving. 2. "Jake Enters His Avatar World" 9/10: The first two-ish minutes have sort of a "background music" quality to them, but when Horner's excellent instrument choice kicks in, and the pace swings up a notch or two, things progress wonderfully. 3. "Pure Spirits of the Forest" beyond 10/10: I have heard several people (not necessarily on iTunes) calling this the album's slow track. It is, in fact, the exact opposite. It establishes the ethnic mood for Pandora and the Na'vi. It shows the potential dangers in the forest, and ends the track with a feeling of despair. This is my favorite track from this album, and I would encourage everyone to buy it. Of course, iTunes had to NOT see to that. 4. "The Bioluminescence of the Night" +10/10: Extremely pretty. It is charming and light, and is beautifully creative. But too short! 5. "Becoming One of "The People, Becoming One With Neytiri" 10/10: This track is wonderful, from its enchanting beginning to the soft, romantic feel at the end. It brings back many memories of the film, including light, whimsical sections that gradually move to sweeping beauty. 6. "Climbing Up "Iknimaya - The Path to Heaven'" 10/10: This has one of the most memorable parts of the entire soundtrack--the choral line that pushes up and up, making this piece so wonderfully riveting. 7. "Jake's First Flight" 10/10: Reminiscent of track 6, but still nothing less than outstanding. 8. "Scorched Earth" 8/10: This is the awkward transition piece that changes the mood of the film, but unfortunately didn't do much for me. 9. "Quaritch" 8.5/10: A bit better than its predecessor, but still in the same category. But it's still excellent. 10. "The Destruction of Hometree" +10/10: This is another part where I get grumpy over the "Album Only". Amend that--I get furious! If it wasn't enough for us not being able to purchase track 3, then this is it. This is the third transition piece, but unlike its predecessors, it plays out with unbelieveable skill. This includes another strong choral section, this one stretching out in a sad, epic way. It changes the score. 11. "Shutting Down Grace's Lab" 8/10: This might just be the Horner's weakest on this album. There wasn't much to this track that yielded anything impressive. 12. "Gathering All the Na'vi Clans for Battle" 10/10: It starts out slow, but the last two minutes (ish) are so strong that it would be a shame to give this anything less than a perfect score. 13. "War" 10/10: The long track of the album is three-and-a-half minutes of brisk buildup, then a few seconds of quiet tension. Then a powerful choral chant breaks out, and this evolves into other material. At 8:00, it becomes sad. Unfortunately, I feel that this track is incomplete. There was more to it in the movie, and, while some of it be reprises, it would be beneficial to include all of it. 14. "I See You": This was not impressive at all, as it distracted from Horner's feel that he had shaped for the album. Overall, it would be a moral violation not to give this album five stars. James Horner proves his quality as one of Hollywood's finest composers (if you like Horner's work, check out James Newton Howard's work). Now, iTunes: The whole point of this site was to let users enjoy the music they wanted. However, it is not possible when you list every track from an album as "Album Only"--this won't win any new supporters. It is rude and somewhat greedy. It does not respect the wishes of those who have joined this site. Some people do not want to pay $9.99 for one track--and if the track is only about a minute, then it's even worse. Who wants to pay $9.99 for a minute of music? I wouldn't. So please take a moment to re-think what you are taking away from people (I would like to see The Sixth Sense tracks have their Album Only removed). It isn't helpful to the cause you started in the first place, and doing what you've done here, and with other albums (like the Deluxe Edition), will not gain you much respect. So, for everyone's sake, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE remove the Album Only!

I was mad at first when I saw the album only, but trust me guys, this is easily one of the greatest movie scores of all time. James Horner's musical genius is what helped make Avatar so captivating both spiritually and emotionally. Don't let the album only scare you away. I promise you will love every minute of this.

Amazing! Pure genius!

I saw the movie with a few friends and walked out in amazment, the storyline, the acting and the whole idea of it in pure genius. The soundtrack gives the movie a true feeling of the movie. I have always had a spirituality with space and nature and this film has boosted my interest to the max. Its a great film that should be watched by the whole family as it delivers action, romance, drama, comedy and sci-fi all at once.

This is an incredible score! It truly takes you on a journey, a spine tingling journey to another world! The mix of the drums, vocals and modern sounds is fantastic. Leona Lewis is perfect for the theme song which touches the heart. Highly recommended. :D

I loved the soundtrack to 'Titanic' and James Horner has done it again with 'Avatar'. How he comes up with this fantastic music I don't know, but this stuff is amazing. Buy it!! My personal favourites are #5 Becoming One with 'The People' and #6 Climbing Up.

James Cameron's Avatar is disapointing average compared to Titanic. Yet this soundtrack is Amazing!!! Amazing that it can be so bad. The last 2 years have seen some amazing scores, yet Avatar is almost torture to listen to. From the unimagnitive music to Leona Lewis's completly out of place ballard, this album is sooo sooo boring. The only redeeming tracks are Gathering All The Navi Clans and War, which are good if you plan too fight a battle against a far suppiorier race knowing you'll win coz your the good guys. IF you wanted to buy this album, Please support the much better scores of the last few years.

James Horner is brilliant! I don't think any other composer is quite able to capture scenes and create scores for them quite like James Horner can. As he did in Titanic the songs on this soundtrack are simply exquisite and so unbelievably telling for what is happening in the scene. It is fantastic to see James Horner and James Cameron working together again if incredible music like this is the result.

For a fourteen year old dream, I am so proud that Cameron saw through it all because the product was absolutely, indescribably beautiful. The combination of new age film technology, wonderful cast, Cameron's unique and rare touch as well as the utterly perfect music score from James Horner and the lovely Leona Lewis, creates a memorable experience that is, and will be, life-changing to all who witness it. Please take the time to listen and feel - oh and don't forget to see. ;)

The film itself was a beautiful combination of visually spectacular scenes and amazing characters. The soundtrack, compliments this film perfectly, which is a relief when it might've been composed with a lot less effort. Each song is written for the corresponding scene with such perfection; when you see Avatar, you will understand why this soundtrack is beyond what so many others are. "Jake's First Flight" is sublime and lifts the respective scene magically, and Leona Lewis' "I See You" ends the film gracefully.

Avatar would have to be the most diverse soundtrack I have ever heard from James Horner and is truly and uniquely scored, its many steps above the score for Titanic without doubt. James Horner fans will be presently surprised at how evolved his music has become and how perfectly each track corresponds with the scenes from the movie.

The movie I have seen 4 times (twice in 3-D) is the best thing I have ever seen whether 3-D or not. The music I reckon is just as good to listen too as seeing the film. The best song would have to be "becoming one of the people" and that all songs should be sold individually.

Upon first inspection, Horner's instrumental backing to James Cameron's revolutionary picture may sound a little unimaginative and repetitive. Listen through a few more times, however, to appreciate the effort put into this. Ethnic instruments are married with a conventional symphony to create an epic sound relevant to the story. A choir, as well as solo voices (including Lisbeth Scott) have been plentifully employed throughout (often paired with a harp), creating atmosphere and a certain grandeur. Although one will not find as many catchy tunes as perhaps Zimmer or Williamson's better works, the soundtrack is not lacking in this respect. The main 'I See You' motif makes an appearance in virtually every track in one form or another and is immensely satisfying. It will make the hair on the back of your neck tingle. Other ideas reveal themselves as the music is heard a couple more times. Standout tracks include The Bioluminescence of the Night and Climbing Up "Iknimaya". The composer has used inventive rhythm patterns reminiscent of tribal drums in Jake Enters His Avatar World to conjure in the listener's mind exactly what could be happening on screen. Becoming One of "The People" captures the essence of the whole film with it's pulsating beat and flowing melodies. The whole soundtrack exhibits a fluidity and connectedness that matches the visual material well, however to get the most out of this work, watch the film. Four stars.

Everything about AVATAR was outstanding. The movie, the album, the special effects, even the video game. I must say to all of you who haven't watched the movie yet please do so. Overall everything about avatar is legendary!

This is a great epic soundtrack to one of my favourite movies. The music itself is spectacular and I highly recommend it. The only thing that left me disappointed is that not all of the music in the movie is here, at least half of it is missing, otherwise an excellent soundtrack.

Jake Enters his Avatar World, Pure Spirits of the Forest, The Bioluminiscence of the Night, Becoming One of the People...Becoming One with Neytiri, Climbing up Iknimaya, Jake's first flight and 'I See You' by Leona Lewis are among the most outstanding tracks from this and truly re-paint a vivid picture of those exhilirating moments.

James Cameron is a genius as is the musical genius of James Horner. The "I See You" theme by Leona Lewis is mystical and beautiful and compliments the film. I'm getting the Soundtrack just so I can escape back to the spiritual and magical world of Pandora. A must see and a must have!

When I say Breathtaking, I mean breathtaking. The movie and the soundtrack hit my heart beyond words and I have to say it's a truly beautiful movie. The soundtrack really brings it to life. I have to admit, I was reluctant about going to see it, but I'm so glad I did! All up I ended up going to see it three times. There's a reason it broke box-office records, and James Horner really helped that come about. James Cameron, James Horner, brilliant work. It's hard to find something these days as true, exciting and heart warming as this.

The film "Avatar" was by far the best movie i have seen in my whole life. The soundtracks really bonded well with scenes of the movie. After i saw the movie i wanted to live on Pandora for the rest of my life. It was so reallistic. What really touched me was the way the indiginous/Navi people lived the way they did. As one big family. It was also interesting how the indiginous connected with everything.Namingly animals. The soundtrack "Becoming One Of The People Becoming One With Neytiri" really tells the story itself.Beautifuly done. Well done James Horner and James Cameron

I love the film and listening to the soundtrack by itself is almost as good as the movie. The album goes on for ages so I feel I've got my money's worth out of it. I definitely won't get bored of it anytime soon

I've had this album playing on loop throughout a 4 hour car journey and it's just incredible. I understand that it may be annoying to have to buy the whole album if you're only after one or two songs, but to be honest I think the whole album if definitely worth it.

why when this film has a brilliant theme song (I see you) does the song have to be on album only? What if that is the only song you like do you have to buy the whole album? I'm sorry to be another moaner and its not that I can't appreciate classical music, I play it myself, however, as a consumer, I only want to buy what I want to buy!!! Is that such a crime? Close your eyes and your simply in pandora itself. A simply beautiful score and a perfect match to a wonderful film. Elegance in sound and harmony in abundance. Emotionally a roller coaster from highs to lows. PERFECTION!!!! Not at all interested in lewis, in fact she spoils the album.

Every single one of the songs on this album have such a power over your emotions. Whether to create the feeling of a paradise, to depict the beautiful white spirits or to haunt you wth the reality of our world. 'Becoming one of the people' gives me goosebumps everytime I listen to it. Every song is beautifully written with a spine tingling main melody that will make you believe you are in Pandora!! Bought this way back in 2009 (look, I can still see young illiterate me) and I'm still listening to it today. Music like this doesn't age...congratulations to Horner.

The music so matches the action in the film,when you listen,you can see the film in your head.Maybe that is because the film is so memorable.But the tracks are as magical as Pandora itself...beautiful.10/10.

Honestly? I wish I could by this album WITHOUT the Leona Lewis track. James Horner once again astounds me with his beautiful, majestic soundtracks only for it to be spoiled at the end by her samey, warbly voice. Don't get me wrong, the track is lovely, but Leona Lewis is not for me. I wish they had used Sissel for this song.

To those people who say in their reviews that "we want leona! why buy the whole album for one song"... These is another masterpiece from James Horner and its really worth paying for it! even twice the price! I think all the songs are great by on their own... Thank you JAMES HORNER...

I gave the album 5 stare because James Horner has, once again out done himself. It's an amazing album which has some of the greatest pieces I have ever heard. Like an tantric orgasm for the ears. However I think it's about time they released Leona,s track as a single :)

A beautiful album which brings back all the memories of a truly brilliant film. You can immerse yourself in the wonder and fantasy of Pandora listening to this album.I cannot say a bad thing about it really except i do not understand why you cannot buy the individual tracks. Another album with extra songs was released in April 2010 but no way am i or anyone else going to buy the whole album again for a couple of extra songs. And to the muppets who rate this album with 1 star simply because they want the Leona Lewis song, grow up and stop throwing teddy in the corner, its a weak song anyway and her voice is irritating and sounds like a shrieking parrot, rate the album on the beautiful content, not what you can`t buy.

I dislike the thin digital sounding elements of this score, the orchestration is great at some moments but the vast majority of this score is rather naff - in my humble opinion.

James Horner has created an exceptionally beautiful score for this film and this is the type of music that I could listen to for 5 years and never be bored with the beauty and magic of it all. An amazing piece of music, every single track is unique and individual and just perfect.

Becoming one of the people is the best track, but climbing up iknimaya is really uplifting. Great music but would be nice if last track was on it's own. Brilliant film.

Want to buy the leona Lewis song separately :( I'm sure the rest is beautiful but I'm not really into film music. Even of its 1.97 or something come on pleeeeeeeease???

I agree with many of the other reviews here. The music is amazing but Why won't you allow people to purchase songs separately? You would make a lot more money (not that you need it). It just means people like me will go and get it elsewhere and these companies wonder why people download illegal music. I was completely willing to pay 0.99p but not £7 for 1 song. Use your heads!!

No one wants the whole album just the theme song that's the only descent one there I love leona lewis's track and I would like to buy it but I will not pay £8 for that! It's disgusting you don't have it for sale seprately!

James Horner has brought us another album from a brilliant film of 2010. his orchestral talents have created and captured the magic of Avatar both a film worthy of such a brain of James to create such a soundtrack....... a marvelous man and always astounds me with every soundtrack to a box office smash that graced our screens. truly magical

You're forgetting the fact, Mr. Horner, that no-one wants to pay the full 7.99 for the songs. Think about it, it's a soundtrack so people only want the theme song and some other good bits but don't want the whole fricken thing on their shuffle!! Please make the songs individual and not album only.

For those of you who are rating this album low just because you cannot get the leona lewis song by itself, shame on you! If you actually bought this album you would see how amazing the score is. So don't rate low just because you can't get what you want.

It is indeed a very good soundtrack, although I do have to admit, I only wanted to purchase "I See You." It's not Apple/ iTunes' fault, but the label's being sneaky trying to shift sales for the full score by making all the tracks Album Only. Yes, it is deserving of recognition, but if it's so great it should be able to sell itself anyway - stopping people from buying the Leona track will only really stop people purchasing and lessen overall sales. There's not much achieved by making the tracks Album Only at all, other than possibly persuading the 5% who wanted the song on its own to buy the whole album (this would apply for any other album too, to be honest). All that aside, it's a beautiful soundtrack and the music itself deserves 5 stars.

I had a wee laugh when i saw that it said this album was released in november 1997 but was made in 2009 :D. It is a really good album though but a year on they still haven't released Leona's song seperately but i bought the whole album anyway last year

Some people might think this isn't really a review because I haven't bought the album (that's only because I need to top up my iTunes account credit though). I listened to the songs little taster things and( I am the biggest fan of avatar EVER) it nearly brought me to tears. I love love love the bioluminescence one sooooo much, I'm going to buy it, you should too :)

Has anyone else noticed that all of JH's soundtracks sound similar? Anyone who has the time take it and listen to the Enemy at the Gates soundtrack by JH. You'll find they are very similar, James has to have a four-note sound in all his film soundtracks. I do like those four notes.

Good soundtrack but why do I have to have Leona Lewis' track too? One star off for it alone, it is unfortunately another "My Heart Will Go On", the song you wish you didn't have to endure. I came for the score, not for the award bait track. Should really have waited for the inevitable 2 disc special edition, does seem a little short at 13 tracks for such an expansive score.

James horner is a genius. Buy the whole album. It's amazing. He is my idol.

this is great stuff worth a buy and personally when listening to the album i skip the leona lewis track cos well not gonna lie i think she is rubbish, but other than that great film music.only shame is people filling this rating thing with complaints about how they want to just buy the leona track :/ why dont you people try listening to the whole thing you might find its actually worth a buy.

Don't be put off by the fact that you can't buy individually, come on splash out!!! I garantee you will not regret it!!!!!!!!!
