Pearl Jam - Yield

About Yield by Pearl Jam Album

Yield is the fifth studio album by the American alternative rock band Pearl Jam, released on February 3, 1998. Following a short promotional tour for its previous album, No Code (1996), Pearl Jam recorded Yield throughout 1997 at Studio Litho and Studio X in Seattle, Washington. The album was proclaimed as a return to the band's early, straightforward rock sound, and marked a more collaborative effort from the band as opposed to relying heavily on frontman Eddie Vedder to compose the songs. The lyrics deal with contemplative themes, albeit seen in a more positive manner compared to the band's earlier work.

- My Favorite

This is my favorite Pearl Jam album of all.

- PJ's Pink Floyd album

This was the album that made me a devoted fan. I enjoyed all the singles from the earlier albums but I was just a causal fan until this album. I had to go back and buy all their old albums and singles for the b-sides after. This album is so layered and it had a great theme. The songs are so well fleshed out and deep. Given to Fly was such an unusual lead single. "Faithful" and "No Way" are my two most favorite tracks followed by "In Hiding" and "MFC". "Brain of J" and "Do the Evolution" are great aggressive tracks that get you pumped and stomping. The Guitar work on "Faithful" and "No Way" is just so original and I get chills every time I listen to them. This is still my favorite PJ album.

- Best PJ album

This album got me into PJ. I love every song and think this is their best album.

- You only need the first 5

As they say that you only need the first 6 Black Sabbath albums, the first 5 albums of Pearl Jam are the most essential and the best of their artistic work. While they would continue to explore new sonic ideas into the 2000s, I feel that it can't be denied that PJ 91-99 was when they were at their creative prime. Enjoy

- Yield: A Review

Holy cheese where do I begin? This album is straight up awesome from the get go! Pearl Jam stuck to their game the whole album. Songs like "Brain of J." and "Given to Fly" show just how well this band can perform together. Every aspect of this is the best. Every instrument works beautifully together and flows almost perfectly. To keep it short, I'd give it a 9.8 out of 10. Simple as that. I'd actually recommend it over Vitalogy, which is also perfection in my eyes. Just listen to this and enjoy. Its the best.

- Can’t Deny Me More PJ

What a way to end the 90’s with an album such as this! Different sound/style then VS and Vitalogy, but great none the less!

- Evolved

By the time that you heard this album you could tell that these boys were not about to slow down or rest on their laurels. They made new sounds and while remaining true to their roots.

- Awesome

Probably my favorite PJ album and I like all there albums

- favorite

for some reason this is my favorite album from all of them. the only record i listen from first to last track

- Best PJ Album

This is my favorite PJ album. There is not a single track I do not like.

- Ggggggreat!!!

This album is amazing you should definitely get it

- Almost Perfect, Almost Genius

From the lyrics to the composition to the vocals to the instruments, an inspired album all around. PJ at their best.

- What if...

If I add "Wishlist" to my wishlist will the universe collapse? In all seriousness though, while this may not be PJ's strongest effort by a longshot it still contains some great tracks essential to anyone who enjoyed Ten, Vs., and/or Vitalogy.

- Good News!!

This albulm screams PJ! Boys where on fire! God Bless these gentleman!

- Great!

One of their best albums. The only four star songs are Pilate and Do the Evolution. Everything else is great. No Way is a very underrated song.

- Awesome!

This album is very underrated! This is one of their best albums - by far. All out Rock with hints of psychedelic - it's amazing.

- Perfection

Brilliant album!! Wowee

- Great album from an amazing band!

Yield is Pearl Jam's 5th album and is in my opinion, in the top 5 Pearl Jam albums to date. Yield contains some amazing songs: . Given to Fly . In Hiding . Brain of J . Wishlist . Do the Evolution, only if you like a bit of screaming! Overall Yield is a 4 star ablum with great songs and a few fillers as well. Highly recommend the album to anyone who loves rock or "grunge". Thank you Pearl Jam.

- Nearly perfect

Yield and No Code are PJ's best work in my opinion. There really isn't a lot of filler on this record, with the exception on maybe "Untitled", which is probably why it wasn't given a title. Yield is a really well balanced record with hard jams, like Do the Evolution, Faithful and Pilate, and solid quieter tracks like All Those Yesterdays and Given To Fly. My personal stand out track has to be Faithful, but this is closely followed by the epic In Hiding and thought provoking Do The Evolution. The lyrics on this track really may be some of Vedder's best. It also has a great animated Music video, which is a rare thing for a PJ track. Buy with confidence! "I am ahead, I am advanced I am the first mammal to make plans, yeah It's evolution baby!"

- Not my favorite PJ album

I have tried so hard to like this album. I have listened to it nearly every day for weeks on end in an attempt to let it grow on me, but it just won't. I love Pearl Jam, they are one of my favorite bands of all time, however, I just found Yield to be such an average album that it is almost painful to listen too. Many people say that it is a return to from for PJ after the experimental wierdness of No Code. Many people believe it is underrated. I disagree. I think it is a fairly dull album, and prabably PJ's laziest effort to date. I hate to criticise a band that I love so dearly, but it would be wrong for me to give this album 5 stars for the sake of it. Despite my criticism, I must admit that two of may favorite PJ songs are on Yield, Brain of J and Given to Fly. I would reccomend that you purchase these two tracks and avoid paying for the full album.

- Best Pearl Jam Album!

My favourite PJ album along with No Code.

- PJ’s best album

This is by far my favourite Pearl Jam album, yes even better than Ten. Well worth checking out the accompanying video - Single Video Theory to see the album combing together...

- Good, but not great.

Okay, so it's not exactly of the quality of something like "Ten", but I think this is a pretty good album all round. I quite enjoy the experimental side to the album, and although this is slightly cliché, it's an album that grows on you over time. Songs I particularly enjoyed include Given to fly, Faithful, Whishlist, and Do The Evolution. I wouldn't pay £7.99 for it, but I think this album is a worthy buy at a cheaper price.
