- It's Time For Something New

I've been a Billy Joel fan since I was 12 years old. He was my very first concert, way back in 1984 during the "Innocent Man" tour, and like your first kiss, it stays with you the rest of your life. That being said, it's tiresome to see all of these "Greatest Hits" packages without a single new tune to remind us of how great a songwriter Billy once was. In an era when the creative and inspirational power of pop music has been diminished by Auto-Tune, it would be exciting to hear what Billy's musical and lyrical voice would sound like today, 17 years after the release of his last album of new material. It would be a thrill to hear what a 21st Century Joel would have to say about his world and ours. Sadly, it doesn't seem like that will ever happen. So I won't buy it. I can't buy it. I already have it. Billy Joel, you were my childhood hero, there's at least one more story for you to tell I believe. It doesn't have to be radio-friendly, in fact it shouldn't be, because the radio is no longer worthy of your talents. It just has to be yours, true to your own artistry, and that would be a welcome enough addition that would greatly help to fill the void that's been left behind.

- Finally

I've always like THESE hits. Although it's ridiculous for all the "hits" collections from Billy Joel, this is the one that includes the songs I want. Now I can get the 18(plus the Entertainer which doesn't appeal to me) I want. Sure I could buy these songs separately but then I'd be out $18. The other greatest hits have a lot of songs I just don't like. Check it out and compare it to the "hits" collections and choose what works for you.

- Missing?

Where is uptown girl? Wasn't that a "hit?"

- Another Reissue?!?!

Do they expect us to rebuy all his stuff again?! Cmon now

- Nothing New and BAD Timing!

Love Billy but gotta say, not a new note to be heard and released same day as BEATLES and BRUCE, oy, hope you sell more than 100 copies of this! Maybe, ya think just maybe, it's time to crank a new CD out, motorcycle boat theater boy? Just my fantasy... or delusion?

- Music video

Artist: Billy Joel Music video: Allentown Year: 1982 Description: Male coal miners are seen nude from behind while showering together.

- billy joel the hits

just dowloaded one of my favs. (Piano man) ....have not listened to whole album.

- Missing Important Songs

I got this, being fairly unware of Billy Joel's music other than a few songs I really liked. I decided to take a chance. I really liked what I heard! Then, my friends started to send me some of their favorite songs. I looked into it, and this album is missing a bunch of his greatests songs, including "Uptown Girl"! In short, there are better Billy Joel "best of" albums out there.

- Love Billy Joel... BUT!!!!

I bought his hits because I had his CD and it's all scratched and I couldn't download them to my Ipod like that... But 6 of the songs didn't download they cut off after a few seconds, do they expect me re-buy the songs?? I don't think so, I expect a refund or something cause I already bought them once.

- 19 hits and favorites from 23 years of music making

In prelude to a thorough reissue of his album catalog, Billy Joel is celebrated on this first-ever career-spanning domestic single disc anthology. Joel’s catalog has been excerpted more fully on the three-disc Greatest Hits series [1 2] and multidisc sets Essential and Complete Hits, but this is the first time his lengthy catalog has been condensed to a single U.S. CD. The nineteen tracks provide a compact tour through twenty-three years of music-making, selecting recordings from every Joel album from 1971’s Cold Spring Harbor through 1993’s River of Dreams. The selections mostly follow his hit-making, though the inclusion of the non-single “Everybody Loves You Now” and the non-charting “New York State of Mind” helps flesh out the hit-maker’s further identity as an album artist. This isn’t a complete recitation of even Joel’s biggest hits – “Just the Way You Are” and “Uptown Girl” are missing, the latter perhaps a victim of divorce – but it’s a musically satisfying 80-minute tour through a rich catalog of hit singles and multiplatinum albums. Radio and concert favorites like “Piano Man,” “Only the Good Die Young,” “Big Shot,” “You May Be Right,” “It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me” and “We Didn’t Start the Fire” will give Joel’s fans a charge and provide a great introduction to those who didn’t live through his hit-making years. Joel’s fascination with ‘60s doo-wop is heard in “The Longest Time” and his affection for Brill Building pop is lovingly evoked by the Ronettes-styled “Say Goodbye to Hollywood.” Fans will have to wait for the album reissues to get their hands on rarities and previously unreleased tracks, but those without any Billy Joel in their collection would find this a good overview of the upcoming releases. 4-1/2 stars, if allowed fractional ratings. - Eh...

Another hits album wasn't needed, but you have to think about the material on the album. It's good songs, but an un-needed album.

- Why?

Any real Billy Joel fan has one of his greatest hits cds already. The only song worth buying off this comp is *everybody loves you now* which has never been on a previous hits album as far as I know. I am a huge Billy fan , but this isnt worth the money sorry.

- It's Good For the Car, But Not When You Want to Immerse Yourself.

Billy Joel is one of the greatest singer-songwriters of all time. To see this collection really had me excited. I always wanted a condensed single-disk greatest hits to come out. Considering I already own these songs, this a good introduction to his career. Most of these are my favorites: Piano Man, The Entertainer, Movin' Out (Anthony's Song), Only the Good Die Young, My Life, Big Shot, It's Still Rock 'n' Roll to Me, Allentown, Pressure, A Matter of Trust, and We Didn't Start the Fire. However, there are somethings on here that don't make me satisfied. Uptown Girl is not on here, and that song is heard everywhere. Just the Way You Are has been excluded from this collection, and I have no idea why. That was his first top 10 hit. She's Always a Woman is such a great song. Why is that not there? Plus, what about other great hits like This Is the Time or The Downeaster Alexa? I mean, it's not a bad collection, it's just not the best. You can't say it's the best, especially if it doesn't include Scenes from an Italian Restaurant or Miami 2017 (Seen the Lights Go Out on Broadway). My suggestion: get his first greatest hits collections or the Essential Billy Joel 3.0. You'll get enough there.

- Show me the Money!!

There is not one new track on this album!! WHy would any serious fan want to purchase this schlop??????

- Another Reissue

For all of you that have not bought a Billy Joel album. This is a solid choice...

- Great Album

This is my first album of Billy Joel greates hits, therefore I gave it five stars.....

- ❤️

- The Piano Guy

I remember as a teen living down on Long Island in the early 1970's. Billy Joel played in the lounge down the street. I saw him three times. He was better than the other performers. I'd sit at the bar. I'd put tips in his jar. I asked him, "Billy, what are you doing here?"

- Need some new material

I think I'd be inclined to buy a hits album if the artist had released any sort of newly written material in the last 20 years. Not sure why Billy has completely gone away from writing but frankly this album is boring.

- Solid core collection of the hits you know you want

Yes, it’s not a complete collection, and no, there’s nothing new here, BUT I am one of those who originally owned many of these classics on vinyl, cassette and CD but I can’t listen to them anymore and am looking to update my collection to the digital. This collection got me many of my favorites all in one place, which saved me a lot of money compared to “wish listing” and downloading all my favorites individually. For the price, you can’t beat this collection. Many of those included here sell for 1.29 elsewhere, If you are a fan, buy this, and then fill in the blanks with singles.

- What if Schumann had stopped?

It gets two stars from me just because the CD is full of wonderful Billy Joel music. But it only gets two stars because there doesn't seem any purpose; don't we have all of these already? I know he said he was done writing pop music, so I'm not looking for another pop album, but where's the next classical album, then? The first was nice -- but I keep thinking what if Robert Schumann had called it quits after his first ten compositions. I can't believe that a musician/composer of Billy Joel's quality (& quantity) can just stop making new music.

- Not more 'Greatest Hits'

Billy already has his 3 Greatest Hits volumes, My Lives, The Essential Billy Joel and a bunch of other compilations made by other people ... why this? How about a new 'Songs from the Attic'? Now that would actually be nice. C'mon ... although I will say that it is not a bad price for 19 songs.

- What is the point?

This is a pathetic rehash. How can you call something “The Hits” when it has such terrible gaps? Where is, “Just the Way You Are” (Grammy winner) or Uptown Girl (Billboard top 10 single)? These are definitely missing HITS.

- Another "hits" album??

Why oh why do we need another issue of Billy's hits? I love Billy but I have all his cd's but I do not need another re-issue....I wish Billy would do another album...I know he has it in him! C'mon Billy, give us some more of great songs!
