I am a big fan of bands such as Led Zep, the stones, etc etc but this band here was my generation, my upbringing. I can remember so vividly an old friend coming over to my house with a blank cassette tape with a song called Jeremy on it. My goodness we must have played that thing over and over again until the spool broke on the thing. Sure they have had their ups and downs, show me one person who hasnt. There is no denying that PJ is one of the greatest bands to ever hit the scene. Ten is by far one of the best albums ever made, still is to this day. Eddie's voice, come on now there is no replica of it, although many wannabe's have tried. Like many others their music got me through some very difficult times in my youth and whether im at the gym or in the car i can easily crank up Animal or Footsteps and ride the wave where it has always taken me.
This album is pretty cool for what it attempts to do, which is reflect the evolution of the band from its' beginnings to the present. Unfortunately some of the songs included on this album are in my humble opinion, better off forgotten. I like turtles.

Hard to believe it's been 20 yrs since PJ came onto the scene. This is a must have for all PJ fans because it showcases their entire 20 yr career, plus you get Temple of the Dog demo tracks, and PJ covering Mother Love Bone. Which is worth the price of admission if you ask me. Can't wait to see the movie.
Hard to believe the first time I saw PJ was in L.A. in the winter of '91. They opened for Nirvana who opened for the Chili Peppers!! Loved them then and love them now!!!
If you love Pearl Jam, then you'll never find a more unique album that displays the work of the greatest band this world has ever known.
You will probably listen to this about as much or less than you will watch the documentary. Depending on how much of a fan you are that may make the decision for you on whether to buy it or not. There are some very interesting tracks here, and if you don't have a comprehensive collection then it's not a waste. Get it if you don't have any live albums. It's clear they were trying to show the entire career arc of the band, which is good. While I wish things like Breath & a Scream and State of Love & Trust were here, they're on the Legacy version of Ten, the Singles soundtrack, and the American Acoustical Tour, so it would have clipped other things that are more interesting. The biggest problem with the early material on this record is the recording quality (lots of crowd noise, especially track 3), so go to live albums for that. I have all of their records, several live albums, Lost Dogs, and most of the singles, so I doubt I'll listen to this more than twice. The tracks I've rated highly, though will get many repeat listens. The most interesting tracks to were # 5-7, 14, 16-21, 24, 28, & 29. In the end, if you are looking for the wisest place to spend your hard earned dollars, buy the movie first. Then get the obscure stuff and key live albums (Benaroya, Seattle 11/06/00, etc.), then get this if you really need another fix.
Just another masterpiece by a great band. I think this is like the Rattle And Hum of pearl jam.
Eddie has always sounded good.. but it seems sometime after 2000 his voice found extra depth and feeling... he really is getting better with age

haha, you do not have to have been born in the 80's to know anything about Pearl Jam. My boyfriend (15) and I (16) love PJ, although he knows so much more on everything there is to know about PJ and Soundgarden and Temple of the Dog, he actually showed me Pearl Jam and I LOVE it!!! Chris' voice is amazing. But for those who think theyre old and they like Pearl Jam, know youre not THAT old :) If generations now can like early grunge music, PJ, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, then you are all good on the old thing! Anyways, I love PJ and that will always be my favorite grunge band :) I thank my boyfriend for showing me PJ :) I love you J!
I had never heard this version of Crown of Thorns, took my friggin breath away. This album is not only a masterpiece, it makes me want to move back to Seattle!

Pearl Jam gives us an awesome documentary and an even better soundtrack for their 20th anniversary. Congrats to one of the greatest rock bands of all time, really the only band from the early 90s to reach superstardom and stay together and keep making new music. Awesome band, amazing soundtrack from the best live band you will ever see. If you ever have the chance to see this band, do it. They are one of few bands that sound BETTER live than they do on their albums.

I knew the track listing to this soundtrack about a month ago. I couldn't believe they almost eliminated the middle of PJ's recording career. Sure, Ten,Vs,Vitalogy are what most people associate PJ with but this film/soundtrack was for the true fans. I understand putting Alive and Betterman in the collection but not two versions of Nothing,Garden,Blood,Last Exit and a few others. Why not put Inside Job,In My Tree,You Are,Unthought Known,Love Boat Captain in there. These are just examples of what I think would have made a superior soundtrack. Maybe some unreleased songs from that era. The packaging of the disc is outstanding. If you have extra dough, get the book PJ book Twenty. If you have a multi-disc player. Put a few officially releases bootlegs on and create your own soundtrack.

It never ceases to amaze me how many times Pearl Jam will sell us the same songs, over and over and over and over...
...just a cassette & a finger on the “record” button, listening to the radio all day. I can’t explain how amazing it feels to look back at growing up in the 90’s & living through all of the amazing music we were blessed with, especially Pearl Jam, when Mtv & VH1 were still going strong.

Same good pearl jam songs with variable recording quality and sound. The rabid fan should grab this, but most can do with out it and not miss much. It is pretty clear that this is a way to cash in on Pearl Jam's success. Not knocking it, I'm just saying...
If the Live Betterman track doesn't give you the chills than your not a true fan!!
Went to the PJ20 screening. Ordered the sound track in the car on the way home. It was a must see for any pearl jam fan. This band has gotten better and better, never losing focus on the fans.

It's impossible to include everything but this is a great collection for both the hard core and the more casual fan. I'm now 40 -- Thanks Pearl Jam for delivering the music for the last 20. It's appreciated more than you could ever know.
A great mix of old and new, live and unreleased.
We can all think of so many more songs we would want on this album, but I think Cameron Crowe picked his favorite moments/songs. His all time fav is Release. I would have loved to seen/heard a rare version of Corduroy, Rats, Hail Hail, Lukin, Glorified and many more but no complaints, I'm sure most of you have them on so many bootlegs. Enjoy the album and the next 20 years of PJ!
Just saw the film. In love all over again. Thanks guys, Thanks Cameron. Hard to believe I was at a 1992 Lalapalooza show seeing this band live for the first time. I'm now 40 and love them just as much as I did then. (Saw Eddie this summer too! XO)
As a person who owns hundreds of Greatful Dead live recordings , the quality of theses Pearl Jam recordings are a Joke, poor quality , scratchy etc.... Not what I was looking forward to
I have followed from the east coast area the band Pearl Jam's sound from day one and hearing their sound over 20 years ago. I still have my first ticket that is so huge in size and is black with the center blocked area being white, and your name was typed in capitals onto the white area. Love their sound, lyrics..... always have and always will.... :))

… it is awesome. If PJ’s music has been a part of the soundtrack of your life, then this is necessary. Even some Mother Love Bone, Temple of the Dog, and other back in the day of good music stuff is thrown in. No other explanation of the five stars needs to be provided. Watching the documentary is equally awesome, and it’s nice to have this music when listening after watching is required. Not sure why it took me so long to rate this, but if I help just one person get this, then my work is done.
It's Pearl Jam!
This is another classic album to any fans collection for sure. Each and every listen will pretty much take you through time and really take you back through each year of your own life. There are many great tracks here that are classics and some songs you may have never heard before. Either way you must own this fantastic look back at one of the greatest bands to grace our great planet. What’s documented on PJ20 the soundtrack is indeed a piece of a puzzle which is often lost in a world where bands come and go. To be good as a band, you must remain good to your fans. It has undoubtedly been a long journey for both band and fan in this case, but PJ20 proves why both began the journey in the first place.
... for 20 years of great music and still rocking hard. If you have never been to a Pearl Jam concert do yourself a favor and go next time they are in a city near you.
