I was listening to an instrumental station on Pandora, when the theme song to Zelda started playing. Base on that alone, I had to get this album and I haven't been disappointed. It's got a rythem that energizes me, with no lyrics to distract me so it's my favorite album to work to. I never realized how amazing the music in some of these video games really is. But when you isolate the music - without any graphics, or bosses, or sound effects - it really is quite beautiful. I will certainly be buying more albums from London Philharmonic, especially if they do more video game music.
I've had this album since the day it was released and I love it. Even my grandmother thought all of the pieces were beautiful.
Why re-record the same boring Lawrence Welk-ish orchestration that is available on a dozen other compilations from various orchestras? zzzzzzz. The Angry Birds track showed a rare bit of inspiration, while most of the track choices will put any Pops Orchestra fan to sleep. Metal Gear Solid 2 theme with a synth drum machine front row center in the mix? ZZZZZZZZZ. If Michael Jackson had this album he would have never OD'd on propofol.
I hope they make a 3rd one
just wow. some people complain about title selection, but if you love the videogames LIVE albums this one is a no brainer. why are you still reading this review? go! see for yourself!
Your missing a few to call this the greatest songs
Gusty Garden Galaxy, da bomb
I'm a big fan of video game music and orchestral music, so this album is pure awesome for me. I love the interesting arrangements of all my favorite tunes, they're faithful to the original songs while making full use of the orchestra. Everything sounds great. The only problem and the reason I give it four stars instead of five is because of the inclusion of music from some more recent games. It's not that I don't like those games or their music, it's just that most of the more modern games already have orchestral music (for instance, the Halo piece sounds almost exactly like the version from the Halo 3 soundtrack). There was really no point in putting them on the album and the space could have been taken up with orchestrations of older game music (like no Sonic the Hedgehog, what's up with that?). Also the album cover, really, military shooters only make up a small portion of the total number of video games. But, I'm dwelling to much on the negative, this album is great and essential for any video game fan.
You uncultured swine
Doesn't sound like the actual music. It has the same general ring to it, but not the same. Gather all the OSTs, then pull the best from those
I agree with the person who said just cus they're popular, don't mean they have good music!!! How biased!!! I'm apalled that Zelda has one main measly track compared to all the great variety of music it has to offer!! CALL OF DUTY DOES NOT DESERVE TWO TRACKS!!!
This music is amazing. Its almost the best music that I have ever heard in my life!
Truly a video game music masterpiece!
Exactly what the title says
Soviet connection is awesome
Best music everrrrr
Every song is a wonderful sound brought out from the virtual gaming world. These are the perfect kind of music to make anyone fall in love with it:)
I love this and bought the other one...please release another!
lol, I didn't realise that the angry birds theme was one of the greatest video game themes of all time...
Is it even possible to be this amazed with a video game orchestration? This is one of the greatest things I've ever seen! (Musically) Well done!
the greatest video game music album is the greatest orchestal video game album in the universe a true classic the best of the best the greatest video game music rocks
Needs better music, a lot of these aren't actually (in my personal opinion) the greatest video game music pieces.
please do a kingdom hearts intro with the singer(any singer is good) I would have put ๐๐๐๐๐ and you deserve those five but i just want the song in
It's okay. The second album is going to be a lot better. I like most of these recordings, but the WoW piece sounds awful. I still love the original recording they used for the cinematic intro though
The songs I downloaded where epic! I loved them! I got the Angry Birds Theme, Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario, Tetirs and The Legend of Zelda.
i can agree with wave dash on this. i was very skeptical about seeing all of the cod and battlefield music. i have personally never played halo or final fantasy due to a lack of xbox/ps's at my house, but as a rabid zelda and metroid fan, i can agree that this list need some music of games where the music is a core part of the game. what ocarina of time fan can forget the song of storms, or how can a metroid prime fan forget the theme from the volcano sector (can't remember what it was called) but, amazing music for the agreeable songs on it, and i just love the pieces. the second is pretty good as well (ps. i'm definately still alive pps. im doing science, and im still alive)
This album is amazing. Beautiful orchestra renditions of some of the greatest vgm themes of all time. My only complaint is that Angry Birds should NEVER be placed on the same list of Greatest Video Game Music as the legendary Koji Kondo's Mario and Zelda pieces. But I guess I'll let it slide because even the angry birds theme is pretty good.
The album is a solid compilation, with some high quality scores. However, much of it fails to live up to the extraordinary Zelda suite.
I wanted the original MGS 2 composed by Gregson Williams. I want the original version to listen to
I bet they had a blast playing this, I know I had a blast listening to it! Thank you London Phil.!!
Stop complaining if your favorite theme is'nt on it.This album deserves 5 stars.
Have been out of the "gaming" scene for several years, but always looking for new vocal-less music to study with. Was stoked when I saw the Mario Bros. Theme and decided on the Tetris Theme also, I am glad this album was created for those of us who are nostalgic.
Love this album, but want all my favorite video game songs.
It makes me want to cry for some reason itโs nice
Where the $!@& is Megalovania?!
This was the best videogame album I've ever heard, my goodness, It is just outstanding they should make the theme for skyrim which I know will sound amazing!
I can't imagine a better way to enjoy this music. Very well done and some of the best insturmental music I have heard in quite some time. Great value!
Ugh.. You can't go wrong with Skyrim! They should definitely add some more Final Fantasy soundtracks or maybe Xenoblade...
There's something about the Halo one that sends chills down my back...
Why are there no minecraft songs?! They would've been epic! Anyways, search for C418 in iTunes and listen to some. But all these are very good
OMG ANGRY BIRDS!!!! I LOVE AB, AB RIO, AB SEASONS, AB SPACE, AND AB STAR WARS. GOOOOO ANGRY BIRDS!!!!
I think that the super Mario theme could have had a faster tempo but I enjoy driving to this music!
Awesome and amazing๐
Actually I really think the normal halo 3 one final effort is better.
Esta muito boa a trilha sonora de todos os jogos apresentados no cd.
This is simply fantastic to listen to.
The fact this has even a sinuglar song from Advent Rising makes this worth every penny.
ITS PRETTY GOOD... GOTTA ADMIT IF IT HAD SKYRIM IT WOULD BE BETTER
LOVIN THE HALO
I found out bout these albums thanks to my friend. It's fun and puts you into adventurous mood!๐ And then for the price it's a great buy! Not just for gamers but people who enjoy that fast pace modern classical pop you could say music, this is a great choice! I am Impressed and Happy with it.

Wow, this is some of the best music i have ever heard. also the tetris one makes you wanna start dancing and start yelling "Hey!" near the end!
Nice actually really good but was missing a couple though but one halo song really there are way better ones than that by the way the halo song it was the original game that song came out not halo 3
I understand that you like those pieces but alot of people don't. The person who selected those pieces obviously chose pieces which he liked. Good Album
This is a good album but soviet connection from GTA IV is a bit different
You have good music but could you please put the skyrim theme on. The one that starts when the main menu comes up. Lots of people would appreciate it. Thx
Pretty good... They could've found a little room for GLaDOS... (Believe me, i'm STILL ALIVE)! ;)
Not a bad selection of music, i wouldnt say this should be representing the "greatest video game music" because there are a tonne of songs that deserve this kind of attention over some titles such as BOTH the Modern Warfare themes which are kinda boring in my opinion. Essentially a big selection of popular tracks from popular console games in the last 3 years. (which is funny because they called the 1942 theme the "Battlefield 2 theme" even though the exact theme is a copy from the 1942 track. (The bf2 theme is different go look yourself)) Praise going out to Suicide Mission track From Mass Effect 2.. (Also incorrectly labeled as ME1) Angry Birds theme, Bioshock and the GTA4 theme. Good album, not worth $17 for digital copy.. $10 maybe.
Check out then new Album. It include most of the mentioned songs. The Greatest Video Game Music 2
There are a few good tracks in there, but cmon, two Call of Duty themes? Splinter Cell Conviction (one of the worst SC's ever made), Angry Birds? Hardly the greatest pieces of audio to come out of the gaming industry. I also question the inclusion of MGS2's theme, as personally both MGS3 and MGS4's scores were far superior. The absence of an Acecombat track is also greatly disturbing, with Unsung War, Zero, Megalith, Chandelier, Rebirth, all far more worthy titles than most of the tracks here. What of Portals iconic little tunes? Be selective with this lot, for the "Greatest Video Game Music" this ain't. There are some decent tracks in there, but theres no need to buy the entire album.
