A simply beautiful collection exquisitely rendered.
An amazing Christmas album that really make me a happy soul. :)
Absolutely gorgeous vocals! Puts you in the spirituality of the Christmas season!
This is the BEST recording of Ceremony of Carols I have ever heard. A must have for any holiday enthusiast!
Great job, I adore this album :) See you around, Liz
Absolutely stunning! I was excited for A Ceremony of Carols to release, knowing it would be excellent, but this album still exceeded my expectations. This is my new favorite holiday album ever!
The group sings like unto a choir of angels. Their program is well thought out and exicuted. Top marks all around. -Bz
This music is hauntingly beautiful. We are so pleased to have found it! A Ceremony of Carols will now be a cherished and integral part of our Christmas repertoire.
If you're looking for some fabulous music to prepare you for the Christmas season, check out this album! The vocal ensemble Etherea is an incredible all-female group that delivers a goose-bump inducing listening experience. Enjoy!
Outstanding performance! The voices are simply divine!!
For collectors of all ages! This is the perfect touch of something Classic for your Holiday and Christmas Music Collection. There is something very magical about this ensemble...the way they sing in harmony, blend as one....it gives me chills.
This recording is an absolutely gorgeous rendition of Britten's Ceremony of Carols. I have sung this music, and heard it many, many times both recorded and in concert, and I have never heard anything approaching the delicacy, purity of tone, and crystal clear sound of this ensemble. And the musical interpretation is nothing short of brilliant. (They are a young group -- I certainly hope they plan to record more.) This album is priced FAR too cheaply for some of the most beautiful music I have ever heard. I'm trying to think of how many friends I can "gift" it to for Christmas -- and I certainly won't limit my listening just to December! A must buy!! Tell your friends...
So, call me corny, but I work as an architect, and when I'm holed up in my office working on drawings for a client, I pretty much listen to music on my computer all day. And to the annoyance of others, between Thanksgiving and Christmas I listen almost exclusively to Christmas music, with Leontyne Price's "Christmas Songs" CD being my favorite; so much so that I tend to play it over and over and over again. No surprise then that others would want to try to wean me away from repeatedly playing this particular CD by trying to tempt me with other Christmas CD's. Which is kind of funny since I now have an entire shelf in my office that's filled with Christmas CD's that I"ve downloaded onto my computer. But it's still Leotyne Price that I listen to the most. That is, until I heard this new Ceremony of Carols CD by a vocal ensemble called Etherea. I listened to it most of the day yesterday and I still can't get enough of it! I'm going to try to hold off listening to it again today, figuring that Thanksgiving is just around the corner, after which I can really begin my holiday feast of all-day, all-the-time Christmas music. And when I do, it's going to be this Ceremony of Carols CD that's going to get played over and over and over.... So thanks to those who brought this CD to my attention. If the door to my office is open, you're going to be listening to it with me for for an entire month!
This is beautiful! I can't wait to play it all winter! Beautiful harp....Nice job Grace Cloutier
I am stunned by the sonic abilities of this group of consummate artists. They take my breath away! In additional to the incredible voices, I love the harp, piano, and organ. What a treat to hear these instruments performed with such beautiful tone, strength, and musicality by Grace Cloutier (harp) and Alan Murchie (piano/organ). Congratulations to you all and I hope you have a next album in the making!!
This compilation of Etherea's "Ceremony of Carols" is outstanding! Amazing blend of vocals, talent and symphony - A "Must Have" for this year's Holidays - Listening to it now and enjoying every minute.... Thank you!
This is a thoughtfully-programmed CD of beautiful Christmas music. I am looking forward to playing it throughout the holiday season!
Etherea's debut recording is the best holiday gift you could ask for. They blend seamlessly and create the most luscious sounds, especially in Britten's famous Ceremony of Carols. Often performed during the winter season, but rarely at such a high level. I have heard them live several times and itโs just as good live! Their energy and passion is unmistakable. I'm thrilled they have a recording and I can listen to them any time I want now. Harpist Grace Cloutier simply shines on here as well. Her beautiful tone and musicality are superb! Her performance here is certainly the best Iโve heard on any Ceremony of Carols or Dancing Day. Ms. Cloutier follows and leads the group with ease. I noticed she has two recordings on iTunes as well. Both are fantastic and highly recommended! The blend of traditional and serious holiday works is just wonderful. Bravo on a magnificent recording and I hope there are many more to come. Treat yourself (and others) to the wonderful gift of Etherea and harpist Grace Cloutier this holiday season.
Simply divine! Cleansing sound.
But so is this recording. Beautiful, expressive, and intelligently polished performances by this fantastic vocal ensemble, with several very poignant solos by members of the ensemble and harpist Grace Cloutier. Well worth a good listen. Or two. Or many.
Some consideer (as in Reindeer) me to be The King of Christmas. I agree with these 'some",. So how could I NOT LOVE this!? Beautifully performed and recorded this is destined to become a new Christmas classic (in the classical sense).
A must-buy album! Beautiful Christmas music, great balance of well-known and lesser-known works. Wonderfully balance of richness and sweetness in the vocal tone, remarkably full sound for a chamber treble ensemble, elegant musicality, moving interpretations. Gorgeous harp playing by Ms. Cloutier, great vocal soloists--all drawn from the ensemble!--and amazing blend in the ensemble. A great blessing for the holiday season.
Best Christmas album I've purchased in a VERY long time!
Gorgeous program! The singing is inspiring and the sound is warm and glowing.
A real holiday winner: wonderful music, exhilarating performances, amazing sound quality.
They sound like angels! Amazing.
Wonderful Christmas music with angelic voices!! I will be playing this for all of my christmas parties and before I go to any festivity. Love the album--a great buy!! (Only 5.99!!)
Inspirational and passionate, this is the spirit of Christmas.
A lovely holiday album with the finest available versions of Britten's "Ceremony" and Rutter's "Dancing Day". Following the Britten, "Noel" is a delightfully jarring surprise, with its operatic flavor and dramatic finish. The recording also includes some inventive traditional carol arrangements that benefit from the ethereal all-treble sound ("In dulci jubilo" and "Gabriel's Message" in particular). But my favorite track is the last, "Tomorrow shall be my dancing day," as it really captures the festivity and joy of the Christmas season. Etherea's singing is sublime throughout, as is Grace Cloutier's magical harp playing.
As Delos states in the release notes, the singing by Etherea Vocal Ensemble is truly sublime. A "must have" for your holiday music enjoyment.
I have heard Britten's Ceremony of Carols more times than I can count, and this is hands down the best performance of the work I have heard! However, what I love most about this recording is the other carol arrangements on this CD. The tuning is superb, the harmonies lucious, the phrasing sensitive and seductive -- it's simply the music of the spheres! Kudos to the singers and the harpist who have brought the Spirit of Christmas to new heights of enjoyment!
Beautiful.
Such of a lovely twist to some favourite Christas Carols. Relaxing and peaceful
put this on loop and never want for another choral christmas album again!
My new favorite holiday album. Gorgeous music, gorgeous voices. .
Just a quick correction - The ensemble is not all-female, I know there's at least one countertenor in the mix. But to the important point: This is the best recording of the Britten Ceremony of Carols I have ever heard. Sure, it's originally written for children's voices, but these people have such incredible blend that I don't care. Buy it. It's worth it; trust me.
This is one of the finest recordings of Ceremony of Carols that I have heard. Etherea Vocal Ensemble does a great great job!
This is a beautiful rendition of Britten's choral classic. When I listened to it, I could only think that his had to be what Britten envisioned for this piece. Superb vocals and a recording that catches subtle nuances make this a stunning performance. I am so pleased that I discovered it. Highly recommended.
I don't recall any harpist recording Gliere's 'Impromtu'. I have the sheet music. It is a good challenge! It is good every once in a while to hear an updated recording of 'Ceremony Of Carols', but coupled with Rutter's 'Dancing Day', makes it especially nice. A plus is all the pieces they have added in between, with an added harp solo outside of 'Interlude' from CoC and harp solos from 'DD'.
