- where is satie?

besides saint saens' "la danse macabre" i have noticed that eric satie's "les trois gnossiennes" does not appear in the album. i am not sure it was les trois gnossiennes but i am sure that i heard satie's unique style. too bad so much is missing on this CD but it is still lovely.

- <3

I'd rather listen to this beautiful soundtrack than watch the boring movie again.

- Hugo opinion

this movie is stunning, in every sense, and that includes the music.

- Stunning

Reminiscent of what Paris once was... I love it. It's very touching and sweet, while not overdone. Suits the movie perfectly

- Hugo

The Hugo Movie was Magnificent and the background music fits the scenes very well. This music puts me to sleep at night which is a good thing because it's peaceful to me.

- Absolutely Beautiful

This soundtrack is so amazing and beautiful.

- Coeur Volant

This is the only vocal track from the movie HUGO. Usually overlooked (pun intended) at the end credits, this version of the main theme is very well done. I bought it for my library because it reminded me of the gentle lilting theme of the film - also well done. Reviews suggest the movie wasnโ€™t as popular with the general public as producers had hoped, but for those who love the movies and the origins of silent film, this is a must.

- I <3 Hugo!

I absolutely loved this film. It was beautifully made and this music makes it complete. I really like the music in the trailer but I can't fins it. Does anyone know what it's called?

- Brilliant, but....

How on earth can anyone say anything negative about the movie? It was stunning & magical. One of the most innovative movies that I've seen in a long time. So sad to read some of the reviewers movie comments. They must have lost their imagination.

- <3

The book is amazing, the movie is amazing, and this album is amazing. Love it <3

- Very Good but Derivative

Howard Shore's soundtrack is very good movie music and a fine fit to the film. The use of the accordion and the lyrical tune evokes Paris. But, if you are a fan of soundtracks, you will hear music phrases and chords that sound exactly like James Newton Howard's music in The Adjustment Bureau.

- HUGO

Has music or a movie ever made you proud of your profession? HUGO did! And Howard Shore's music is the glue that makes it all work. This is an amazing score to the best movie I, as a professional magician, have ever seen about magic. This is the real stuff, not the Harry Potter "wave a wand and it happens" stuff. I like that too, but this shows "The Real Work." We're talking about the hours that it takes to bring your audience magic that lasts 30 seconds. Mr. Shore's music, very minimalist in it's scope, but is so emotional that you don't care, and unlike Phillip Glass's stuff that seems cold at times. I feel all the folks on this movie have done a movie just for me. Johnny Depp has produced a masterpiece and this is my favorite movie that Mr. Scorcese has ever made. A magician reinvented movies and these folks that talk about Robert-Houdin and Melies in the same breath. It makes me proud to be a magician. And that's a hard thing in this day of Angel and Blaine. The way they are both put down and made fun of, because of their lack of glamour and caring, for what's beautiful and wonderful about the world's oldest performing art form. I love the music, the visuals, the story, and the love that is obvious on every frame of that film. It's the best movie I've seen in years. Thank you, Mr. Shore, Mr. Depp, and Mr. Scorcese. You make me proud to be a magician. Taylor Martin, Conjurer Producer, Indy Magic Monthly

- Classic and Nostalgic

Listening to soundtrack brings you to old Paris. It's just magical.

- There's another song that's not on the soundtrack

Does anyone know what the song is called that plays when they watch the first film about the train?

- Magnificent!

The movie was great an so is the song. What a great combo.

- Just Like the Book

When I read the book I imagine that this would have been the perfect music to be playing while reading. It's absolutely phenomenal.

- Draw Dropping

Captain Proctor's Favorite movie! Oh, and "Rollo Douglas" that song is a classical piece "Danse Macabre". Ironically, it is being used in my upcoming independent film "The Astronomer", which is a remake of George Melies' "A Trip to the Moon". I had no idea it was going to be used in this movie!

- Breathtaking.

This soundtrack took my breath away. The first track just made me plunge into this world that's filled with pure magic. Well done Shore, well done.

- I want to see it

I have read the book but I have not seen the movie I really want to although my friend is wanting to see it with me.so I am confused of when she wants to see it with me because I have to do a book report on it and I have to see the movie first and I only have like 3 days to do it it's due on dec.1 and it's what like nov.28 so yeah 3 days to do it unless november has 31 days then I will have 4 days but anyways I don't have Ali of time to do it

- Magical.

I think Howard Shore is really magical,I love all of his soundtracks, but this score is simply perfect,it really takes you back to old Paris, and it's gorgeous,Hugo is my favorite movie because of its acting, the theme and the soundtrack. I just don't have the right words to describe how beautiful this is.

- A heart shaped key...

This movie is a beautifully layered piece of artwork, a love letter to early film tinged with the "romantique" era of post WWI Paris. The music of the movie is every bit as delicatly layered, threaded through with the quintesential French accordian, and unlocks the heart with the turn of a heart shaped key. Don't miss the film or the soundtrack.

- Superb Soundtrack

This is one of the best music selection I've heard!! Hi. Can anyone please tell me the name of the song that plays right after Hugo says he will start to work in the shop that same day.

- excellent

really served to the films spectacular beauty and fit the setting perfectly

- - Beautiful -

Hugoโ€™s production stands on its own as a piece of art. Especially the score.

- Superlative.

Beautiful score, Beautiful movie. Nuff' said.

- Hugo

I just finished watching the movie absolutely amazing soundtrack amazing also

- Howard, at His Best

Sits nicely next to The Lord of the Rings trilogy as one of his more extraordinary film scores. Rock on Howard Shore! :) Can't wait for The Hobbit movies!

- Fine Art

This movie is much better than one would think if ones opinion is based on the movie trailers. In the advertisements they make it look like a kids movie, but it's really a great piece of art. The colors and cinematography are just perfect. The clothing, the smoke, the gears in the toys and clocks, the library, the books, the overall architecture...marvelous. The music is beautiful and very soothing. It has a very happy outcome and just makes you feel good. This movie is pure art. Very VERY inspirational.

- Amaaazing๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

I just caaaant stop listening to it, ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

- Wow

I love this one THE THEIF!!!! LOVE IT

- Music from the heart of Hugo...

This soundtrack definitely ranks high as one of my favorites to ever grace the scene. The music wonderfully conveys such a deep wonderful message in parts, while having a great intensity in parts where for example, Hugo is in danger. Howard did a great job with the musical soundtrack, and should have been given an oscar for his superb attempt.

- Absolutely superlative <3

To answer Rollo douglas 's question, it's called 'Danse Macabre' by Camille Saint Saens. I saw the movie tonight. The movie is exquisite and so is the music!!! Positively worth it all!

- Hugo

Best song on album: the thief love this album :)

- I like the score a lot more

... than the movie, which I thought was a bloated, vastly overrated mess. This music does a better job of recreating old-time Paris than the movie did. Of course, just as there's no reason to watch Scorsese's ultimately insulting "tribute" to Melies when you can watch Melies' brilliant films instead, there's no reason to listen to this music when there are plenty of CDs available that compile actual Parisian music from the 1920s and 30s, which is wonderful stuff and the obvious inspiration for this score. Still, this is pleasant and competent background music for when you're cooking dinner or dusting the furniture, which is a whole lot more than I could say for the truly bad and incomprehensibly popular movie.

- Howard Shore Ladies and Gentlemen

Howard Shore, the composer of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, brings to life a fantastic landscape of wonder and imagination through this brilliant and poignant score for the oscar nominated Hugo. As transporting as the movie was, it's musical score is what brought viewers across the line of reality and into the real of make-believe. The score itself is nominated this year, and I would not be surprised if it won. Truly one of a kind, beautifully composed and will stay with you long after you have listened. This most definitely belongs in your library.

- The Book

Just like the book.Love it.

- Evocative

I loved the movie and the music was an integral part of making the film so emotionally successful, as any good score should be. My only problem is that the theme "Coeur Volant" sounds so similar to Michael Giacchino's theme from Ratatouille. Both are beautiful and fit their respective films but I can't hear one without being reminded of the other.

- Amazing

The entire production, the movie and the music is so amazing and beautiful!! (Asa Butterfield was the perfect Hugo!) This music is not only beautiful, but it gives the movie the perfect parisian feel. I'll be buying these! If you haven't seen the movie, yet, I highly recommend it :)

- Best MOvie Ever!!

love everything the score is fantastic love the story and how they did the point of view of hugo and his life . watched it probably a billion times and i can already say its my favorite(:

- Hugo film score

This is one of the director's great films and the score complements it very well. I would expect that each actor fully recognized the importance the man the story is really about. That it is a young boy, who sees with the eyes of a child the dreams many adults have forgotten. So many movies have become base, but this one is not and will be a classic for those, who are fascinated by the theory and history of cinema.

- The name of the song when he first sees the movie

The song is called dance macabre by Camille Saint-Saรซns it's not on this album though

- great music to work with...

Aside from the effects and the phenomenal lighting, the storytelling on the film was fantastic. I listen to this soundtrack while I'm away design/animating and it fits in perfect with getting the creative juices going. Now I can't wait for the Blu-ray release just to hear what Mr. Scorsese's commentary was on doing a 3-d film and hopefully using Howard Shore as his goto guy for a soundtrack

- Beautiful

I loved the movie so much! The music made it just that more beautiful:)

- Regarding the Train Film scene

It's called Danse Macabre by Camille Saint-Saรซns. He adapted it for his own Carnival of Animals - Skeleton part. (I knew it was something I knew...)

- Beautiful, magical.

Howard Shore has created a masterpiece of a score using the French themes of the railway station. I have been truly inspired and it shows off how Howard Shore in my opinion is the next James Newton Howard.

- Fantastic

Howard Shore has scored a handful of Scorsese movies, but I was still a little surprised to see his name attached to Hugo (well Scorsese's too). So its just as well that the film and soundtrack are magnificent. Can not recommend more, there are tinges of LOTR in the music, but with a Parisian twist, and the whole piece flows wonderfully - one of the best soundtracks of 2011.

- Beautiful

A Beautiful Soundtrack to go with a beautiful film. Thank You

- Haunting

This is an exquisite soundtrack that perfectly compliments a hauntingly beautiful film. Highly recommended... apart from Sasha Barron Cohen's acting in the film which is the worst I have ever seen in a movie!

- MAGICAL!!!!

Relaxing, magical and great fun! I have fallen in love!!!! Just like the film itself, it will make you feel warm inside on a cold winters evening.
