LINKIN PARK - Hybrid Theory

About Hybrid Theory by LINKIN PARK Album

Hybrid Theory is the debut album by the American rock band Linkin Park, released on October 24, 2000 through Warner Bros. Records. The album was a huge commercial success, selling over 10 million units in the United States alone and peaking at number two on the Billboard 200 while also reaching high positions on other charts worldwide, despite receiving mixed reviews from publications. It has also sold 24 million copies worldwide as of 2009, including over 10 million in the U.S. which makes it the band's best-selling album, the second best-selling album of the 21st century so far, and the second best selling debut album. It is also one of the few albums to be certified Diamond in the U.S. that was released in this century. Recorded at NRG Recordings in North Hollywood, California, and produced by Don Gilmore, the album's lyrical themes deal with problems lead vocalist Chester Bennington experienced during his adolescence, including drug abuse and the constant fighting and divorce of his parents. Hybrid Theory takes its title from the previous name of the band. Four singles were released from the album: "One Step Closer", "Papercut", "In the End", and the Grammy Award-winning "Crawling", which along with "In the End" was responsible for launching Linkin Park into mainstream popularity. At the 2002 Grammy Awards, Hybrid Theory was nominated for Best Rock Album. Hybrid Theory was released in the United States on October 24, 2000 following the debut of "One Step Closer" on the radio. It entered the U.S. Billboard 200 charts at #16 in late 2000, and was certified gold by the RIAA five weeks after its release. In 2001, Hybrid Theory sold 4.8 million copies in the United States, making it the best-selling album of the year, and it was estimated that the album continued selling 100,000 copies per week in early 2002. Throughout the following years, the album continued to sell at a fast pace and was certified diamond by the RIAA in 2005 for selling 10 million copies in the U.S. In 2007, it has sold over 10 million copies in the U.S. alone. It has also sold 24 million copies worldwide as of 2009, including over 10 million in the U.S. which makes it the band's best-selling album and the best-selling debut album of the 21st century. Critical opinion for Hybrid Theory was mixed. Some critics gave the album positive reviews; Stephanie Dickison of PopMatters commented that the band was a "far more complex and talented group than the hard rock boy bands of late", and claimed that "they will continue to fascinate and challenge music's standard sounds." Q magazine gave Hybrid Theory four out of five stars. Robert Christgau of The Village Voice wrote that “the men don't know what the angry boys understand”, and gave the album a "two-star honorable mention rating", citing "Papercut" and "Points of Authority" as highlights of the album. Jenny Eliscu of Rolling Stone commented that Hybrid Theory had "as much potency as albums by Limp Bizkit or Korn" and called it an album that "reflects the frustration of life". Other critics, however, dismissed the album. Allmusic writer William Ruhlmann said that "Linkin Park sounds like a Johnny-come-lately to an already overdone musical style" and called "One Step Closer" "a typical effort", referring to the lyrics of the song's chorus. NME's Noel Gardner commented that "otherwise damn fine soaring emo-crunchers like 'With You' and 'A Place for My Head' are pointlessly jazzed up with tokenistic scratching," giving the album a score of six out of ten. Despite initially mixed reviews, Hybrid Theory found itself in several “must have” lists that were compiled by various music publications, networks, and other media. - Still incredible

It’s crazy to think this album is now 21 years old. It’s old enough to vote and drink. It’s still a mind blowing album that makes me happy to this day.

- Great album

Cool classic album R.I.P Chester Bennington

- Why Is this Album So Perfect

Linkin Park Is just straight Up awesome to Begin with And I can listen to every Song in this album

- Good.

Hybrid Theory is Linkin Park’s original sound. Many people worship this album like God, and it’s not hard to see why. Not my favorite, but very good nonetheless. My favorite songs are One Step Closer, A Place For My Head, and Forgotten. Definitely worth checking out if you’re into Nu Metal.

- This is so amazing

Love this album so much every song is great and the instruments are great to

- Their best album

Hands down the greatest Linkin Park album. Had it on cassette when I was little haha. This is also one of the best albums of all time. From the first track to the last, every song is phenomenal.

- RIP CHESTER

I hate how Chester is gone but if I could still meet him I would tell him and the rest of the band that this is the best album that they have ever produced.

- TRULY revolutionized rock music

I really wish today’s music had more rock. With all the “revolutions” to electro-pop, modern music is (mostly) trash. This album is part of the last years real music was mainstream. And I’m eternally grateful.

- Papercut

It’s so catchy

- Yassss

Linkin park: 10000000000000000 times better than other bands!!! Place for my head is actually better as the Amp version in Reanimation when they remake all their songs!! By myself is my ultimate favorite, even know Burn it Down is a whole lot better. Most of their music is in movie’s like Transformers or Little Nicky. I LOVE YOUR GUYS MUSIC!! ROCK ON LINKIN PARK!! One of the dopest albums out there. RIP Chester Bennington.

- Stop ruining this album!!!

Linkin Park! Please stop manipulating the originally recorded and mixed songs! You’re ruining them! Especially Crawling! That song is perfect! And you keep adding echo and lowering the intensity of the rhythm guitar! STOP!!!!!

- Rick

This is an influential album, Hybrid Theory is the perfect name for a album infused with rock, rap, with some of the best written lyrics performed with passion. Every song on this album is high powered rush. This album got me through my deployment. Great piece of art.

- The OG

Linking Park is hands down my favorite rock band of all time. I love most of their work, and even though “Minutes to Midnight” and “A Thousand Suns” are my favorite, this is what started it all. ‘In the end’ is their greatest song of all time. I don’t even think that’s up for debate.

- Hmm

I heard such great things about Linkin Park for years without ever listening. Have to say, I’m pretty disappointed. The instrumentals are well done and the music all sounds pretty good, but, seriously, people have got to be kidding when they say his voice is so good and unique. I mean, yeah, it’s above average but not any better than plenty of other artists. The reason I finally checked LP out is because of a cover band called Wretches and Kings (one of the vocalists is from a band I’m a fan of, Righteous Vendetta) and their voices are just as good. In some cases I like them better.

- A Perfect Album.

Linkin Park at its best. The last two songs are the weakest but there’s a reason why this album is the best-selling rock album of the 21st century. Shinoda, Bennington, and Hahn flawlessly play to their strengths in an album that gets you going from the very first song “Papercut”.

- Great

Classic album

- Decent

Not a bad album, but honestly not that great either. First two songs are really good though

I LOVE this album

- A Respectable Rap Metal Album

Nü-Metal and Rap Rock were in full swing by the time this album came out. I feel like Linkin Park is the only band besides Rage Against The Machine to fuse hip hop and metal well enough to not make it sound gimmicky or corny. There are many aspects I like the guitars are heavy, some of the riffs are pretty catchy but other times they’re kinda rudimentary. Chester Bennington is certainly a talented vocalist, the most talented guy in the band as far as I’m concerned. My gripes with this album are Mike Shinoda. I’ve never thought he was great rapper and his pen game is pretty weak as well. Also the lyrics can be a little too “suburban white boy” angsty for me. Overall it’s still one of the better albums to come out of the nü-metal subgenre

- just me?

am I the only one here because I saw that it was Bella Swan‘s favorite song🫠

- >:)

It’s starts with one thing I don’t know why it doesn’t even matter how hard you try keep that in mind though the time is right

- Pretty Awesome

The first of LPs albums is definitely one of the best, and it’s a nicely flowing album. Here are my reviews for each song: 1. Papercut 9/10 It’s a very nice intro to the album and it displays a palate of LPs skills. 2. One Step Closer 8.5/10 It’s good to scream with if you’re angry. 3. With You 10/10 I personally love this song even though it’s less popular. 4. Points of Authority 8/10 Nice memorable tune. 5. Crawling 9.5/10 Brilliant. 6. Runaway 7/10 Slightly repetitive. 7. By Myself 9/10 Different sound effects. 8. In The End 8.5/10 One of the most popular LP songs but I enjoy other songs on the album more. 9. A Place For My Head 10/10 Great mix of rap and rock. 10. Forgotten 8/10 Nice start but sounds to familiar to other rock songs after. 11. Cure For The Itch 9.5/10 Something different and a creative instrumental. 12. Pushing Me Away 9.5/10 A great finish for this album. Other Thoughts: I wish this album had an intro like some of the others. Overall, I have loved listening to this and won’t stop soon!

- Truly amazing

I love this band. Have loved them for years and years since I was little. This album had the first songs I’ve ever heard from them and is an absolute masterpiece.
