- What a great birthday present!

From reading posts on his blog to observing some of his latest remixes, I could only assume that people were expecting this album to be a great departure from Laurent's last installment, Touareg. I'll tell you what though, whatever it was that I feared this album would sound like is now old news and "Dark Lines" has not only renewed my faith in Airwave once more, but has also aided me in discovering the joy I used to have from listening to true progressive trance. Gone with all the bacon-bits percussion and the generic chord stabs that seem to fill up today's "trance" and on with beautifully constructed story pieces: featuring epic introductions, stunning breaks, and screaming climaxes. A good representation is "Taketetcha," which is nothing short of a thunderous journey, moving from one climax to another, while continuing to ooze that incredibly familiar "Airwave" sound. What's even more incredible about the album is the fact that much of the meat of it wasn't already spoiled by samplers that were released prior to its ship date. Sure, "Atlas Winds," "Cathedrals Of Hope," "Romeo And Juliet," and "Chiricahua" have already made their spotlight, but to be truly honest, some of the most amazing tracks were "At Last," "The Absolute Relativity," "Kabalash," "Oyama," and of course "Taketetcha" - which I've pretty much adopted as my favorite so far. I just can't stress enough how long overdue this album is, not just from the prospect of Laurent's leave of absence, but from the entire industry overall. It feels like as if everyone else is scouring the web, constantly looking for a way to move forward and finding new sensations, but only to be squashed by a big boot that was just moments away.

Trance's last line of defence??? Besides JOOF, Timewave, etc. Airwave are one of those who put constantly spring out amazing tunes. This album is no exception.
