Daft Punk - Human After All

About Human After All by Daft Punk Album

"Human After All" is the third studio album by French duo Daft Punk, first released on March 14, 2005 internationally and a day later in the United States. With it, Daft Punk apply Minimalism and rock music to their French house musicstyle. It received mixed reviews noting its reported six-week creation, which is particularly short compared to previous albums Discovery and Homework. Conception The Japanese edition of the album artwork features a quote from Daft Punk stating: "We believe that Human After All speaks for itself." In a later statement, Daft Punk considered Human After All to be the favorite of their three studio albums and regard it as "pure improvisation." The album's brief creation and minimal production had been decided upon beforehand as counterpoint to their previous album. As Thomas Bangalter stated, "We were definitely seduced at the time by the idea of doing the opposite of Discovery." Human After All was created mainly with two guitars and without synthesizers.Furthermore it was produced in two weeks and mixed in four, a session in sharp contrast to their older material. Bangalter has stated that the album is an attempt to discover where human feelings reside in music. He later commented that "we felt like the third album was about this feeling of either fear or paranoia... not something intended to make you feel good". When questioned on the positive reaction to the use of the tracks in Daft Punk's recent live performances, Bangalter expressed that, "Human After All was the music we wanted to make at the time we did it. We have always strongly felt there was a logical connection between our three albums, and it's great to see that people seem to realize that when they listen now to the live show." The cover image of Human After All features the Daft Punk logo displayed on a television screen. Each single from the album ("Robot Rock", "Technologic", "Human After All" and "The Prime Time of Your Life") features a cover with a different image on a similar screen. This television theme is also expressed with tracks from the album, including "On/Off" and "Television Rules the Nation". Reception When the album was leaked on the Internet several months before release, fans speculated that it was a fake designed to foil online filesharing. Reviews noted that the album's tracks were overly repetitive and of primitive quality. Critics also felt that, despite the re-affirmation of humanity suggested in its title, the album remained overtly mechanical. Nevertheless, Human After All is seen as a strange and gutsy musical statement. One review in Stylus Magazine stated, "it's the same story, track after track, willfully mistaking alternation for variation, intensification for development and dynamics. In other words, a shining example of pop songcraft in the 21st century." The recent live tour featuring tracks from Human After All caused people to reconsider what they felt about the album. Pedro Winter, Daft Punk's manager at the time, stated, "When we put out Human After All, I got a lot of bad feedback, like, 'It's so repetitive. There's nothing new. Daft Punk used to be good.' Then they came back with the light show, and everyone shut their mouths... People even apologized, like, 'How could we have misjudged Daft Punk?' The live show changed everything. Even if I'm part of it, I like to step back and admire it. Me, I cried." The first single "Robot Rock" received moderate attention, reaching #32 in the UK and #15 on the U.S. dance charts, but was not a major hit. The second single "Technologic" only hit #40 in the UK but did considerably better in airplay. The track has also been featured on The O.C. and in an iPod commercial. A sample of the track has also been used as the chorus for Busta Rhymes' single "Touch It". Human After All was nominated for the 2006 Grammy Award for Best Electronic/Dance Album. Remix Album Human After All: Remixes was released on March 29, 2006 exclusively for Japan. It features numerous remixes previously unavailable on CD in a limited pressing of 3,000 copies. A limited edition of the album included a set of Daft Punk Kubricks. The album implements a Copy Control system.

- WOW!!!!

This is one of there best albums!!!

- Daft Punk in its esence

For me its the best album ever made by Daft punk. What makes it really good is the repetitions that apears in all the songs, especialy the prime time of your life, robot rock and television rules the nation

- One of my favorite Daft Punk albums.

Daft Punk shift to the pure electronic genre with Human After All. My picks on this album are all of the tracks except the title track.

- Amazing

Speaks for itself... amazing still in2017

- Horribly underrated

I am a huge daft punk fan. I love all their releases especially this release, especially Human after All. I honestly don't know why people dislike this album so much. For sake of space I will just name my favorites. (1) Human After All- This is my overall favorite from this release. I love the use of guitars on this track as well as the vocoded vocals. 5/5. (2) Television Rules the Nation- Great message even though the song only has a phrase repeated over and over. However, I don't mind that so much on this song. Unfortunately, the song does drag on for a bit. 4/5. (3) Robot Rock- Again the guitars come into play. Great riff and really catchy. 4/5. (4) Technologic- Second best on the album. Love the seemingly annoyed robot "singing" the song. Great beat and instrumentals as per usual on the album. Overall, Human After All gets a 5/5 from me and I consider it a masterpiece. However, everyone is entitled to an opinion, so if it isn't for you, no problem.

- Robots Rock!

This has definitely become one of my top 10 albums of all time. I wish I would have discovered it a long time ago.

- Da best!!!!!

Great album overall, technologic it the best song!๐ŸŽค๐ŸŽผ๐ŸŽง

- ๐Ÿ’ฏ๐Ÿ˜ฉ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿฝ

So awesome. But Emotion sorta made me feel down, even though it may have been to calm things down.

- Best album yet!!!

Title is self explanatory. ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜

- Daft punk

Hmmm yes robot rock = Mr.Incredible

- Meep ๐Ÿฃ and sweets ๐Ÿง

Great artistry = great musicians leads to robot rock LEGENDS ๐Ÿค˜๐ŸคŸ I love it!

- A Lot Like the Movie

It's a lot like Electroma in the way that it's slow, it does carry on a little too much, but it's very emotional and straight forward. I listen to a lot of alternative music, and then I found Daft Punk. They've done an awesome job.

- Their Best Album!!!

Great album!!! Maybe because im a huge fan, but its what I wanted to here.

- Awesome!

I love it! Technologic is such a good song! Daft punk never disappoints.

- My favorite

I listened to this album a lot this semester. It gets you through tough days when you feel like society is stacked against youโ€ฆ It has both simplicity and intensity, which is hard to do. My favorite album.

- Not for everyone.

HAA is a flawed but interested experiment that won't appeal to everyone, even if you life Daft Punk's other work. I'd recommend giving it a trial run on YouTube before you buy.

- Daft Punk Gets Creepier But More Punk Rock!

Daft Punk does it again! This album is great but possibly Daft Punk's worst. This era of their music is almost horror-like. Even the music videos are disturbing and horrifying but pretty sick! I also wonder why they deleted all the reviews for this album! Well, now I'm first for reviewing this album! Human After All - A very cool tune and very robotic! This song has a great Guitar line! (9/10) Prime Time of Your Life - I love this song too! It's very creepy, but awesome. The music video is disturbing, but if you love horror stuff, you'll love the music video. The song is true Dance/House music. Creepy! (9/10) Robot Rock - My favorite song of the album! The electric guitar line is the bomb! Very Rocky and Punky! Absolutely amazing! This is a great song for Rock/Dance/House lovers! (10/10) Steam Machine - A very creepy and weird song. But it's Daft Punk, what do you expect? Very horrific! (9/10) Make Love - A very peaceful, beautiful song. It sounds too familiar to many of their past songs and it doesn't really fit with the album's theme. (7/10) The Brainwasher - The creepiest song in the album. It's called the Brainwasher which is very horror like! I guess it's about taking out brains or something, so yah, incredibly creepy! (8/10) On/Off - I have to be honest. This is the worst Daft Punk song ever created. It's stupid. All it is a TV switching stations. I have no idea what Daft Punk was thinking! And 17 seconds??? It might mean something more in depth but I highly doubt it. (3/10) Television Rules the Nation - Very catchy! And yes, television does rule the nation! (9/10) Technologic - I got this song when I was little and this actually was the first Daft Punk song I had ever bought so the songs very special to me. It's one of the bests (probably the best) in the album! The lyrics are very creative and really, it is the only one with lyrics that are more than 3 words or something like that. It's quite unique as well!!!!!! (10/10) Emotion - Very roboticly emotional, but it repeats like crazy and only real fans are going to be able to handle the song. (7/10) Overall Grade - 8.1 out of 10 and a Letter Grade of a (B) Overall, this may be a disappointment to fans, but it still is Daft Punk and they are still the greatest DJs out there. This may just be an album only the hardcore electronic lovers will like.

- JUST WOOOOW

This is the best song ever you should buy it and if you see the video for this you will not go to sleep for 3 days XD Still best song in album

- Technology the song ๐Ÿ˜

The technology video is weird I donโ€™t like watching it

- :D AWSOME :3

I just started listing to Daft Punk AND I LOVE IT u people are aw-some :3

- Buy it use it Break it Fix it Crash it Change it Melt Upgrade it

I feel as though that Discovery is there best album but this album has more of an awesome Rock sound other than Discovery's more Electronic 70's 80's sound overall I feel as this is there Second Best Album overall.Technologic is probably one of my favorite songs of all time...Buy it use it break it fix it crash it change it melt upgrade it...

- AMAZING

Buy it, Use it, listen, it is amazing

- Robot Rock!!! Love it

Best song on the album

- Great album

Robot rock, human after all, emotion, steam machine, and technological are the best on the album! Television rules the nation sounds better on alive 2007. The rest except on/off are medium. On/ off is pointless and it costs $1.29?!?!

- HUMAN!!!!!

Great album. Robot Rock has to be my favorite. Television Rules The Nation is my second on this album. Both songs have a kickin beat to it and sick vocording.

- Another perfect album

Probably one of the most misunderstood albums by daft punk. If you really listen to this album you'll realize that its still the daft punk we all love, its art, pure art.

- Flawed but still good

It's definitely the most experimental album DP have done to date, probably even more than ram. It's pretty repetitive and focuses on looping vocoder vocals over and over again. This works out pretty well on some of the tracks like TV Rules the nation and robot rock. My least favorite from the album is easily steam machine, it really killed the 5 star for me, and I almost always skip it when it comes on unless I'm preoccupied. Otherwise, I really like the idea and I think this definitely deserves its place in the daft punk collection ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป

- Its ok

This album is fine if your a hardcore DP fan. However, I would not recommend it to newcomers. Its not terrible, but it's ridiculously repetitive (this is coming from a DP fan. I know their music is supposed to be repetitive.) So, yes. It has like 3 good songs, but its not great...

- Great for your collection

I half to say, this is a daft punk hit. I love robot rock, tv rules the nation, etc. The main reason this probably was disliked, though, were the videos. Like prime time of your life. I can still s##t my pants when watching. But this still should be part of your collection.

- Worth the listen

Sure this album is a departure from the previous 2, still an awesome album and worth the listen. Definitely check out Human After All and Robot Rock. RIP DAFT PUNK 1993-2021

- A little bit too repetitive...

I mean the albums good, but it sounds like a broken record most of the time. And that robotic โ€œyuuhhhโ€ sound is overused way too much.

- I totally recommend

I feel like Iโ€™m a robot now

- Re-Review

I sound like a freaking idiot so I want to fix my review. The punks, especially Thomas Bangalter, are some of the best improvisers I've heard. They work wonders with their improvising, and are able to fit it very well into their Alive 2007 set list, although it makes things very repetitive. The music is QUITE repetitive but the radio edits make them a bit more bearable I suggest that if you only plan to take Robot Rock with you. They could've been a bit more imaginative with their guitars (the Yuuhhh sound in my old review) maybe mixing in some straight up guitar. I mean they could've used some Discovery sounding guitar, it does sound close in the title track and TV rules the nation. If you lean more towards the RAM side I suggest the track "Make Love" I find this more fun to listen to then I did before.

- Meh

I really like my Daft Punk but, even for dance music, this repeats waaaaaaay too much. Every song sounds the same and that sound effect that sounds like "Yuuuh" is used too much. I'm stickin with discovery

- Definitely Worth Checking out!

It's one album I never knew they had. I don't know how I missed it. Not as coloful as their last albums, but this still delivers. Some people haven't quite acquired a taste for this music and wouldnt "get it" hence, the mixed reviews. But I liked it a lot!
