I bought this and I'll buy the concert film soundtrack. You've got to support those things that move you. This music is amazing.
If you have not been able to see the Showtime concert that has really great musicians and sound, it will be released as a 35 track recording sometime in 2014. Absolutely worth waiting for to purchase that album when it comes out.
Like the music, not every track is a favorite, but there is plenty of good stuff here. Issue: the digital booklet It will not load, which means that every time I open iBooks it stutters through asking me to login and download. But it never will Tedious.
I am a massive folk music fan, especially the early stuff. These covers of classic song breathe new life into this music. Must buy!
Although, I enjoy this album, I cannot wait for the full documentary album. It was really terrific.
I sighed sighs of happiness listening to this album. Such a breath of fresh air in the stale state of the majority of popular music today. I'm not sure if the movie will be any good, but the music is just amazing.
I too saw the NYC Another Day show. It was fantastic. This "album" still shines.
Just saw the movie and man it is one of my favorites. Each moment and scene was so nicely executed by the cast and crew, but is the movie is only amplified that much more with the music. Not only is it good in that sense, but for just as good music for entertainment and the soul. But I would make it a point to see the movie before this purchase haha
The music are incredible
It's amazing!
The movie was a little meh, but this soundtrack is fantastic!
amazing
Couldn't wait to download this after seeing the movie. To Rossg01: I feel so sad for you. It must be terrible to go through life never appreciating great music.
Hey that’s pretty good
Very good music and movie !
While I would have preferred ALL of the music from the movie/showtime concert, I love this album. It's just beautiful.
There is a reason this was secret because it is really bad!
Truly a great soundtrack
Another fantastic soundtrack from Coen Brothers and T Bone Burnett collaboration. Saw the film at NYFF and I've been anxiously awaiting the release of the soundtrack.
Great music once again from the best pair ever known to the film industry. Can’t wait to see the picture once released over seas…i have my 15 old months son listen to the music now and he too loves it.
The music is as good as the film....you will definitely enjoy the album....
In response to the first few reviews. I watched the same documentary and was truly in awe. This is the soundtrack for the movie, period. I researched and found out that they are making an album that is from that documentary. It is due out in late January or February. Just thought you all would like to know.
there was a time when musicians relied on instruments and vocals to explore their art. this collection brings us back to that .... REALness, and leaving auto-tunes and echo-beats to a crowd devoted to fake.
hang me~oh~~hang me~
This album is excellent, however it should be made clear that before this movie Oscar Issac was on broadway. He's not just 'convincingly singing' he's a pro.
This album will ease your mind and take you to your happy place. So many great songs to enjoy !
Most of these songs ARE NOT the same as the ones in the film. "Shoals of Herring" is noticeably shorter. Carey Mulligan's vocal take is different on "100 Miles" and the addition of the Punch Brothers on certain tracks pushes the songs into country/bluegrass rather than folk. Why did they have to mess them up?
Literally, The " Best " Song I Have Ever Listened To.
My only complaint with this album is that Oscar Isaac doesn't sing enough. I love it.
This album masterfully shows the beauty and authenticity that this film brought to the screen. The songs are honest and true and full of heart and they perfectly portray the characters and their struggles in life. The film itself was a rare, genuine spectacle and, if you haven't gotten the privilege to see yet, this album will do you right. It's so real it breaks your heart and literally takes your breath away. Be prepared for a fantastical reality spun with brutally honest words and lyrics, all topped off with a solemn and heartbreaking Fare Thee Well.
Let me put it this way, I PURCHASED this album. That is a rare occurrence for me. I needed it right after the movie, i’ve never heard a soundtrack this meaningful and raw before. Please get this.
I agree with the one other reviewer thus far who points out this is NOT the full soundtrack of the movie... I also saw the documentary on TV "Another Day, Another Time" and I am very disappointed that this soundtrack does not have Rhiannon Giddens, Gillian Welch, Dave Rawlings, The Milk Carton Kids, or Joan Baez anywhere on this soundtrack - what a shame! I know Oscar Isaac does some great songs, but why would you not include those other great artists for a more diverse compilation? I can only hope that they come out with a "soundtrack" to the documentary / concert series "Another Day, Another Time" ... I do plan on listening to and buying some music by Dave Van Ront, so I appreciate this movie and documentary to turning me on to him and his music...
just by listening to this album a few times, its turned into my favorite movie soundtrack, apart from perks of being a wallflower’s soundtrack. possibly one of my favorite albums ever. wonderfully simple melodies that convey complex emotions and feelings.
I'm disappointed it didn't have all the musicians/artists on this album. All should be on this album. Not impressed.
the ticket is worth.
I can’t speak to this movie (though I’m assuming greatness due to the Coens and Oscar Isaac), but I can speak to the soundtrack. Oscar Isaac himself has a background in the modern folk scene, and thus performs his songs very well. There are, as well, MANY folk veterans such as Marcus Mumford and Chris Thile. Everyone on this album is a spectacular musician, the arrangements are phenomenal, and the songs themselves are great picks for the movie’s subject matter.
and the movie is too bruh
So glad that this film showcases the true talent that is Oscar Isaac. His performances within film and music feature so many different layers and will definitely leave old fans and new ones captivated. I do wish that we could hear more original work from him rather than just movie soundtrack material. Can't complain though, because Never Had from the 10 years soundtrack is an amazing little gem of a song. As Kate Mara stated, if you don't know who Oscar Isaac is now, you will very soon.
I heard samples of the album on the internet and was absolutely floored by Fare Thee Well (Dink's Song) … Better music than any contemporary music out there … I pre-ordered the CD and impatiently await it's release ...The movie looks very good too! … T-Bone Burnett, Marcus Mumford & the Cohen Brothers are a winning combination!
For a movie soundtrack, this is a great album.
It's great, there's nothing else to say.
If you have seen the movie and enjoyed the music, this soundtrack is a must have. This soundtrack does not have anything to do with the special that was on Showtime. The track list is in the same order as they are preformed in the movie but are the pre-recorded versions. Download it and enjoy it.
wonderful movie with beautiful heart filled music
Received the vinyl which was released early a few days ago and have become obsessed. The songs are beautiful and fill the void left by most of today's artists. Reminiscent of a time when lyrics were the prominent focal point of music.
still stands up after almost a decade. Teaming with resonance, sorrow, depth and musicality — sit back and listen with a sense of discovery and wonder.
This album throughout its entirety is just absolutely perfect. A full album listen through is simple. Unlike today's majority where only a few tracks are ever played. This album keeps up with today's greatest stuff as well as blemishes the past. Nothing but greatness. Awaiting the film impatiently!

I can't wait to see the movie. But the singer sounds really like the guy from Mumford and sons (check out there stuff as well. Great band) 10/10
Hey I'm listening to inside Llewyn Davis and i'm hearing a little bit of a blues / soul singing and I'm thinking wow this is amazing he has a really smooth and graceful tune to his voice why hadn't I heard of him before there needs to be more of his music out in the industry I would love to here it in Capricorn leading edge music shops around the world. Keep up the next recording I think he has some really special hidden talent that would go very far.
Terrific as expected. If you like early Bob Dylan & other music of that era you'll love this great homage. Maybe not as groundbreaking and crowdpleasing as the Coen's O BROTHER soundtrack, but give this is a few listens - great collection of folk standards by (mostly) contemporary artists. T Bone Burnett is pulling all the strings behind this one. Great stuff.
fantastic soundtrack and i can't wait to see the movie
So I had to buy whole album for it lol.
BOO, downloaded album but still missed out on The Auld Triangle, (my favourite), 500 Miles, Green Rocky Road and Farewell. Can't work out why, but not happy at all. Not still in available downloads, so wondering if they are part of the purchase. Great album tho.
